Thanks for this. I don't think people realize the distances involved in Vegas properties.

After your original video, my original plan was to keep my resso at Harrah's since the monorail stop looked much closer than it seems to be. Might re-evaluate again. Thanks for putting this together!

@@DeviantOllam Thanks again! Ended up making a secondary reservation at Residence Inn because of this video. Original plan was to stay at Harrah's and take the monorail, but I do like the closeness.

As someone who was once a not infrequent visitor to Vegas, and even as someone who comes from the very hot, very humid, climate of Savannah, GA... beware the Vegas heat and take appropriate steps in terms of cooling and hydration. If you're not used to heat, say you're from a cooler climate, you're GONNA be hot... ass on fire HOT... If you're used to hot AND humid like I am, Vegas heat is VERY deceptive because it won't really FEEL hot to you but you NEED to proactively hydrate even moreso than at home. First trip to Vegas I'm literally walking down the strip in a suit like "I'm not even sweating"... I WAS, it was just evaporating too fast to notice. 106F at 3% humidity hits different than 106F at 50% humidity because you don't feel it until it hits you and you're doin the "kickin chicken" and a medic is trying to get an IV in your arm. Be safe, have fun, hydrate, change your socks.

August is very hot their, I avoid going to Las Vesgas during the following months since I can do anything outdoors then. June, July, August, September, and sometimes October. Its just too hot to spend any period of time outdoors. So definitely come prepared to drink lot of water. Avoid caffinated drinks and alcohol as much as possible.

Las Vegas is literally in the middle of a desert. I'm from Western Australia so high temps and dry weather aren't really an issue for me, I'm acclimatised to that stuff, but I can see why a video like this might be necessary for a lot of the folks who go to Defcon.

I'm going to the Convention Center soon for another show soon. The unlimited monorail ticket per day is very good. There is a little bit of a walk to west hall from the station at Central/South Halls. There is a station at the Saharah. I stayed there last year and it was a decent experience. No room service and room cleaning was not every single day. They have online ordering to on property restaurants for you to get takeout back to your room. When I arrived the room was very clean. I was in the Marra Tower.

while there may be more walking, how is the travel path from north hall across the skywalks to west hall? is that entire path air conditioned? and would north hall be accessible during that time? sometimes an air conditioned path is preferred over a shorter one.
@DeviantOllam7 ай бұрын
I should do an update about that. It is possible to walk through the back of the Westgate and then cross a little street and then go through the other halls and sky bridge I think

*The American obsession with stating distance in units of time.* 🙃
@ke6gwf7 ай бұрын
Which is exactly what's needed here, so people know how early to leave to arrive at the desired time. It's easy to look up distance on the map in your desired units, but knowing real world walking times is invaluable.
@jamesrowlands89717 ай бұрын
For walking it makes a lot of sense. A straight walk down a separated path is going to be faster than repeatedly crossing busy stroads for an equivalent distance.
@H3110NU7 ай бұрын
Canadian here… it’s what makes sense to us. Even “long” distances or actual long distances are measured in time… Toronto is 4 hours Halifax is 18hrs, Florida is 22 and the bus stop is a 7 minute walk. No clue how many Kms/miles that is…
@SparkliTwizzl7 ай бұрын
because in the USA (and North America in general), the linear distance is almost irrelevant. 10 miles of empty nothingness in the countryside takes 10ish minutes to traverse, but 10 miles of twisted-up congested big city streets can take hours. it's much more useful to know how long it takes to travel between places than it is to know how far it is between them. /info
