This video is about how the baptism of Clovis, at the long urging of his wife and queen of the Franks Clothilde, changed the western world forever. Had Clovis not converted to Nicene (Catholic) Christianity against a tide of Arianism in Western Europe, the world might look very different today.

Very well done. There’s a real need for videos on this area of history. Minor quibble: “nascent” has a long A, like neighbor and way. Keep up the good work.

2:00 Arius wasn’t a bishop, he was just a prelate. The two influential bishops of the movement were both named Eusebius, (of Nicomedia and Caesarea).

Minor note: the last Roman Emperor per 0:55 was Romulus Augustulus, not Augustus. Great video!

I thought Clovis was baptized in AD 496?

There is some discrepancy. I believe Gregory recorded that as the date, but modern historians tend to think it happened after 500 AD. It's up for debate.

1:50 Correction: From my understanding, Arianism didn't teach that Jesus was just a created being, but that despite still being the divine Son, preexistent to the created world, his person and essence were distinct from the Father and as a being begotten by the Father and one through whom the Father creates the world, there must have been a time, even a time before the beginning of natural time, before which the Son existed and he, therefore, must be in subordination to the Father as they also believed the Holy Spirit is subordinate to the Son. Nicene Christianity taught (and still teaches) the tri-fold Godhead was not and can not be in subordination to itself, that to be begotten is to be uniquely distinct from but not to be created or made by the Father, and that though distinct in person, they are not distinct in essence but are all three co-existent, co-equal, and co-eternal beings of the same god.

@@JaimeAlvarez-r9u Charlemagne isn’t Clovis’s son. He isn’t even from the same dynasty. Charlemagne is the one who distanced Rome from the orthodoxy and turned it to the heresy we know it today as the Roman Catholic Church.

@@Anti-demonXXI It didn't change all that, someone after or before him could have converted and everything would be the same. His conquests and his line had nothing to do with his conversation. It was just the times, some had converted, some had not. It could have happened earlier or later, but it was what was going on at the time, the general trend.

People often disregard how intertwined the church and peoples lifes where, the churche had the same autorithy and influence in peoples lifes than the state has in our lifes today, people back then didnt cared for state laws, the basic law code where the 10 comandments and what the priest said, to say that this didnt changed anything can only come from the mind a modern liberal. Had Europe went into Arianism, cristianity would had colapsed a long time ago, the reason is because Jesus Crist didnt came to earth to found "Cristianity", Jesus Crist founded the catolic church, there is no other cristian church, Arianism would have destroyed the very foundation of the church, the divinity of Jesus. But God intervines and keeps the catolic church alive, just like it will too find a way to keep the catolic church protected from this "conciliar Vatican church" modern heresy
