Just a small correction for 0:37: Nuclear Fission is initiated by destabilizing a radioactive nucleus with a NEUTRON, not an ELECTRON. The additional mass from the NEUTRON causes the nucleus to split into two lighter nuclei with stray neutrons to destabilize other nuclei. The process also releases energy in the form of heat and radiation.
@MrMash-mh9dyАй бұрын
The firing mechanism in atomic bombs is a bullet tipped with a pellet of radioactive material and the physical impact of the two causes the start of the neutron release. An H-bomb has an outer shell that fissions when the collision strikes, and its neutrons start the fusion reaction. Electron discharge is observed as emp pulse in bombs and in the Cherenkov Effect in reactors, but it has nothing to do with how we capture the energy released as heat in reactors. That's actually a massive correction. He got fission completely wrong there.
@brentkelly9864Ай бұрын
came to the comments for this. good correction. surprising error in the video. especially that its seemingly animated incorrectly with an electron rather than neutron, as well.
@alexpoiry3988Ай бұрын
I watched the animation in slow motion to count the nucleons (probably because I'm a beta cuck). I think this is argon-36. I texted my friend at CERN who studies high energy collisions to see if he know about fission in argon using electrons and he said, "It's 2 in the morning, please leave me alone." Anyway, argon-36 is observationally stable, so probably not great for fission.

A stack of solar panels is about the size of a fridge.
@CemKalyoncuАй бұрын
Aerogel is expensive, like tiny pieces of it sold for dollars expensive. Solar is very cheap these days, if they stop politicizing them and putting tarrifs you could buy solars from China at as low as 9¢/W. This is probably just wafer but backing and what not, it should not pass 20 - 30¢. Meaning you could be paying 300$ / kW. We don't have high tarrifs but still with installation it costs about 1000$ / kW in here. Apparently, it is worse in some other places. How dare people save some bucks while saving the planet, right? They need to be able to get money so that they could help their friends in dying fossil fuel business...
@danielgehring7437Ай бұрын
@@CemKalyoncu The video even said why comparing aerogel and solar is apples vs. oranges. Even ignoring the politics, solar just isn't viable (or even possible) in some areas.

Hot take: quantum mechanically, cold fusion happens all the time in the universe. In a room-temperature or colder environment, there's definitely somewhere in the vastness of space in which two protons are flying at the right speed and direction that they ram into each other and fuse into helium. This is neither meaningfully predictable nor a useful means of generating power (cf Maxwell's Demon for basically the same solution to generating energy that has innumerable wacky explanations for why this wouldn't violate the laws of thermodynamics), but it's technically what cold fusion means, not just fusion that somehow magically doesn't generate heat or actively makes stuff colder.
@MrMash-mh9dyАй бұрын
Hot take on your hot take: Matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed in a closed system still applies. Quarks are the internal structure of atoms, so how could a proton which is atomic, be quantum? I think you don't understand the delineation properly. Quantum is under the atomic, it makes up the atomic, or at least that is what they think they see when they splatter atoms on a detector. They say the electron is quantum, but the proton and neutron are definitely provably atomic. Have you ever really looked up what they are actually measuring or how they do that at a particle accelerator? It's just a pile of filters and they hope they can get one of these quantum particles to stick to the detector to say they detected it. It is like having sixty screens for your window to keep bugs out with just one hole the same size in all of them to let fruit flies in. You can't see the fruit fly. You can only see something came through the hole but not what it was. So how do you truly know it was a fruit fly? That is the problem with quantum theory. You can say it was whatever you want that came through...and it leads to ideas that are not truly based in science. Something like what you say might have happened at the big bang.... with infinite heat and infinite pressure. Laws are laws and theories are theories. You should use your mind to ponder what is real and verifiable and not go down the rabbit hole that is quantum theory. It is sensational bullshit. It always is amazing to me whenever they just have to prove a particle, they always can with these detectors with more energy and more filters. Quantum Theory is a science that has not truly confirmed itself, and don't forget that.

5:25 Zero point energy is not referring to the lowest energy in the universe, this is false. It is referring to the theory that all electrons in the universe are the same electron, moving between the atoms of all matter via some kind of quantum state. If this theory were true (I doubt it), it would mean it is possible to influence this electron by some method. This could lead to infinite energy production, because it would allow us to put as many electrons as we want wherever we want without drawing them from any power source. Its applications would be limited only by whatever machine enabled the process. In summation, it is the opposite of low energy, it is tapping into literally infinite energy.
