I have a great credit score. I think it's the highest you can get . Over 830 and yet I really don't need it. I pay cash for even the big things. The last three cars I bought I paid cash and I buy a car that's 2 years old, pristine with very low mileage. The last house I bought I paid cash. An REO foreclosure and got for 1/3 of what it cost to build it. It was brand new with all appliances included .
@MCJSAАй бұрын
My brother in law never buys a new car - always looks for the low mileage second hand deal and he always finds it. A couple of years ago, I bought a five year old second hand Ford hybrid with 18k miles for less than $20k. The car was like new and very cheap to run - until it breaks. Hybrid cars are basically computers on wheels, so watch out.

One of the benefits of buying a used car is that you do research on it. How many recalls a model has, which year is most reliable, what's the real world mpg, etc. My dad always said a reliable used car at 50k miles is practically new, as it will last over 200k miles in it's lifetime. You can't guess that kind of reliability even with the Japanese brands because they can change one part and ruin the entire model year.

yeah he repeats it over and over, buy within your means and stop buying outside of it. a $5000 car should be a decent enough vehicle to last a couple years. and lets say you put $2500 into this vehicle. that should cover oil changes, tires, brakes, belts, filters, plugs (likely more if you pay a mechanic). this type of maintenance could easily extend the life of your vehicle for another year if not more. thats 3 years and youve spent roughly $7500-8000 on this vehicle. currently, the avg. monthly car payment is $737 new, and $520 used.... thats $26500 new, and $18700 used, spent on car payments in 3 years...

Great video but the only thing I disagree with is the credit scores. A credit score is a 3 digit number that tells alot about your behavior with money. I higher score translates (most of the time) to being more conservative with your spending because you will do everything you can to protect that score and when you do purchase something major like a car you have the best financing terms. Those with subprime credit are more reckless about going into debt because they don't care and have a yolo mindset

Not for everyone - well, maybe for a lot of people, is unforseen education expenses. I have five kids and I planned for education costs but it was never a priority - I did not know how much it would cost and did not put enough away. Then, the costs seemed endless - tuition, fees, accommodation, transportation, food... on and on - and x5! I did not have enough and had to borrow, and that debt was not planned. You need money, a lot of money, fast. So, I'd say plan for this and be real about it. You need at least a ten year head start so if your kid is seven or eight and you still have not started saving for college - you are already behind.
@JeffinTDАй бұрын
Not having a car payment and splitting that money into paying extra principle on the mortgage, and upping contributions into retirement helped me a lot. Not leapfrogging from house to house every few years I think was also helpful. Get the adequate, starter house paid off, don’t pay real estate commissions and closing costs so often you don’t build equity. Once the mortgage is dead you can save money quickly. Retire with a paid off home and paid off rental.
@dmitryd3605Ай бұрын
If you have extra money to throw into the house better invest them. With conservative market growth around 9% and home loan 2-3% you’ll be net positive. Of course, nowadays home loan rates are higher, but they are still less than market ROI and they tend to go down. Refinancing 30 years mortgage during the first 3-5 years if you find 0.25% better rate makes financial sense.
@JeffinTDАй бұрын
