Ading black dye to the mix to make it look like it's full of cement when it dries is cheating ... I've seen it in so many small brick factories.

I'm not understanding what you mean. How does the black dye make it look like there is more cement that it should have?

@@AffordBindEquipment to achieve good mortar mix you have to put certain quantity of cement (which is darker than sand and gravel) ... so to achieve this (darkness) they cheat by using black dye to the mix to give the impression that the brick is made from the right amount of cement because in a perfect world the darker the mortar the more cement it used ... get it ???

I never heard of a hollow block being judged by color. Pick 5 up chest high and drop them if 4 don't break it's a good batch.
