Aiden, I'm not sure if you're already aware of this, but another way (and it's easier in my opinion) to get the hi-hat's to shorten up is to go to the Sample Settings tab, turn Trim on max (as long as it sounds good), then use the Out knob to shorten to your liking. That way you don't have to worry about the length of the notes in piano roll and can also utilize the Pattern screen to create your hi-hats, then edit in piano roll later to change notes etc.
