Just saying - many of us in the UK stopped buying the Guardian when that daft woman took over as editor because it was clear quality investigative journalism was over and it was no longer a progressive paper. Suddenly there was a big increase in pieces to do with relationships, decor, clothing etc and political comment was clearly Blairite in nature

it's also worth remembering the role Hollywood played. if you think back, Assange was pretty universally respected (even in my person life, i had people bring him up, in a favorable way, even tho they weren't very political). and the mood around Assange really changed when Hollywood made that propaganda movie against him. Hollywood can really shape how people look at someone (or an issue) without making any arguments, they just convey it in a movie. famously intelligence agencies give the directors advice (something they usually talk about openly in interviews), and are sometimes even on sets. i wonder if that was also true for the Assange hit piece..
