Absolutely! I got pregnant at 19 (because I was an idiot & got married the summer after I graduated high school) and had to leave my abusive ex when our son was only a few months old. I’m like you- my son became my life. I don’t think he spent a single night away from me until he was school age and stayed the night with his best friend (who’s mom had already become my best friend, so I knew the whole family really well). Having a child changed everything for me. I got into nursing school and worked 3-4 part time jobs, while taking >full time classes each semester, living an hour from campus and maintaining a 4.0GPA as a single mom. He was all the motivation I needed to get through the years of sleep deprivation and stress. Before him, I had put college on the back burner, because I didn’t really feel like I had a reason to better myself. I’m not sure how my life would’ve turned out if I didn’t have him when I did, so no matter how much I “sacrificed” for him, he did so much more for me JUST by existing. Now, he’s 24yrs old with an autistic 3yr old son and his fiancé is scheduled to be induced on Monday evening to have their 2nd baby, a girl this time! He’s a wonderful father, who has a full time job AND has 2 small businesses: an eBay “store” (reselling video games, and gaming consoles that he refurbishes himself) that he started at 16, AND also builds custom computers (which he taught himself to do). Plus, he JUST invested in an old “claw machine” & another vintage arcade game to refurbish them, so he can set them up in a local restaurant for some passive income. I’m only telling you all of this, because I know first hand how hard it is to be the committed mom that you are… but I know that your son will make you just as proud as mine makes me every day! We are YOU, just 20(ish) years further down the road. I can’t describe how AMAZING it feels to see your son passing down ALLL that down to his son, but I have NO DOUBT that you will get to experience it yourself. Just keep on being the loving, protective, committed mom, that you already are. It’s 100000% WORTH every exhausting moment of their childhood.🥰 ~Sending LOTS of ❤️&🙏🏼 for you both, Sweet Mama!

There truly isn't much more she could have done. In 39/50 states in the US this entire situation is 100% legal and a 17 can consent to sex with anyone their age or older, wether they're 18 or 80. Personally I got pregnant at 15, my dad thought I was just staying the night with a close friend of 4 years, had no clue anything more than an innocent sleepover was going on. I was a straight A kid who never got into trouble, and I also had a lot of friends who were straight up secretly drug addicts or having sex with multiple parents a week at 13-18 and to this day none of their parents have any clue. In all honesty there's nothing a parent truly can do if their child who is old enough to drive, work, join the military, and legally live on their own decides to do something apart from disapprove.

The mom thought he was 21 and still wasn't okay with it, but was willing to allow it. Then when she met him she knew he was older, but it's not like there would be anything for her to do whatsoever. In 39/50 US states, 17 year olds can legally consent to sex with anyone 17 or older, so the most the mom could have done is just say she didn't approve. I'm not sure why people think parents of older teenagers are somehow capable of controlling them, they'll find a way to do what they want regardless.
