Old South Winery, in Natchez, MS uses Muscadine Grapes for making wine. He threw the skins out in the pasture and his old arthritic bull ate the skins and got to jumping around like a baby! He bottled the skins and people take them for their arthritis.

I just sold my home just east of Pensacola, FL where I had a 40 foot long trellis of muscadines and scuppernongs. I strained the cooked juice through a strainer and then several times thru cheese cloth until the juice was pretty and clear. I made jelly for all my neighbors. I also made pear preserves from my trees. Yum!

My aunt many many years ago took the children and picked wild muscadine wild purple grapes, she made jelly and canned the juice . Come breakfast she opened this jar of concentrate added water and sugar to taste poured into a glass and this was named “ drinking” it was the best grape juice I have ever had then or even now. Your conversation regarding muscadines brought that treasured memory of sitting around the dining room table smells of fresh smoked fried ham, Scrambled fresh eggs , homemade buttermilk biscuits and fresh churned butter and my Mother, father, Aunt and Uncle’s conversation as we enjoyed breakfast . All us children intent on our wonderful breakfast and “drinking”

I've used a 4 c Pyrex, water with a cinnamon stick and some cloves and simmered it for a bit to freshen the microwave. Leave it in there till it's cool and wipe out the interior. It scents the entire kitchen, you could also put the cooled water/spices in a saucepan and simmer on the stove for a few hours if the entire house has lingering smell. You might check your owners manual to be sure it doesn't have a filter that needs washing. Blessings Jan

from Google - Guernseys are the gentlest of cows. Brown Swiss are nice, too. Jerseys (in my opinion) have a bit of the Napoleon complex; they are smallish but have an attitude. In general, dairy cows are more docile than beef cattle, mainly because they are raised with a lot of human contact.

Your muscadine is a southern version of our northern concord grape. The best taste is when you crush and boil the mash until the skins start to get mushy. Then strain it all for the juice. It takes more sugar than you think it should. You could adjust that to your taste and fruit sweetness using special pectins. I got our grape jelly/jam recipe down to perfection. As proof I have a picture of our Daughter with it smeared across her face "testing the quality" as we were canning that year's batch.

Regarding breeding Mildred: cattle are all from the genus “bos” which is subdivided into two species - “bos Taurus” which is all European cattle like Angus, Hereford, Holstein, etc - and “bos Indicus” which is Brahman cattle. One of the important factors in breeding anything is called “hybrid vigor” - taking the best of each breed to make the hardiest combination. (This is why mixed breed dogs are stronger and hardier than purebreds). The strongest crossbreed is made by crossing species - something that is possible only with cattle. That is what Brahmans are used for. Brahman are used in Southeast USA to breed for heat tolerance and parasite resistance. ( Yep, remembering all those things I learned in vet school! 😻) I

This country girl was told we needed a male n Female. Muscadine n Sccuppernong grape 🍇 to cross pollinate… Muscadine flowers can be either male, female, or self-fertile (or perfect). In nature, vines are either female or male, and only the female vines set fruit. Muscadine grapes are known for their sweet, juicy, and slightly tart flavor, while Scuppernong grapes have a sweeter and milder taste.
