I like this author’s perspective however at 2:00:00 he said the allies feared retribution for American POW’s so the Americans fed the German POW’s well. Once the war was over food quality and quantity dropped. I should point out that in an interview with one of the REAL BAND OF BROTHERS he said after liberating the concentration camp they never took another prisoner. Retribution for the mass slaughter/ atrocities of humans made retribution easy. I could easily see that retribution spreading to POW camps in America. The POW food probably went to France to feed starving civilians.

This is entertaining but designed to engender sympathy for 'just a regular guy' taking up the banner of his country. OK. Poor schmuck. No sympathy here however. His final sentences ring true however but somewhat hollow. His oft repeated lament regarding the Treaty of Versailles is of little merit. However perhaps he is to be forgiven. Nonetheless he is a mistaken product of his generation. They were just lucky any of them were left alive.
