Hey Monkeyfamily! What do you think of this "playset"? Is it worth 9 quid, or is it just a waste of space? Thanks for watching! 👍🐵

I would have loved this as a kid, but it's a bit crap that it doesn't have opening doors on both sides. And, yes, I would have hated the stickers too. The Kenner original is much better quality, as you say.

No the pictures of Phoebe creates expectation that its included into the Vehicle. I don't know what Quid is but sounds kinda dirty :). I would expect it to have it included. If anything the pictures of her bother me as its not even included. So its like just virtue signaling or giving false expectations. I would want the figure to come with it from the way its packaged if I bought or gave as gift etc. I thought i saw this already in a prior video so I"m a bit confused. Also I kinda think of its a Playset that would have something that can play with it but its just me maybe ;)?

Hi digging raised bed! Aha interesting Afterlife Ecto-1 playset..; 9£ low price so that's fine. It's sculpting looks similar to the style of the vintage Ecto-1. This Afterlife version seems like a design with more features which I like (the interior, gunner seat, mobile trap etc) A pitty, visible cheaper materials where used for this vehicle . What would be the best alternative (to the original kenner Ecto-1) to display next to the original Kenner figures you think?
@MonkeyboysToys Жыл бұрын
Well, Hasbro did produce a Ghostbusters Classics Ecto 1 when they reissued the figures, so that's the one I would recommend. It's almost exactly the same as the original, the only difference being the winch mechanism underneath has been enclosed on the recent reissue. It can be bought for a great price if you shop around. The box is even very close to the original one. That would be my choice if you can't find a vintage one that's in good condition and still white. Thanks for watching, Seth! Have a great week 👍🐵

There were two versions of this box made. Seemingly to not have spoilers on the box, the first version had Phoebe in civilian clothes.

Indeed there is. I forgot to mention this in the video. I would probably buy another just for the box variant because I'm mental. 😂

Excellent video and review @Monkeyboy's Toys! The toy looks okay! It's cool you could fit a vintage Kenner Real Ghostbusters action figure in the driver's seat, but it could use more seats for the other ghostbusters!
@MonkeyboysToys Жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim! I'm happy with it for the price but it's not very good really. It's reasonably accurate to the movie but the Playmobil versions are much better. It's good that the scale works with the vintage figures. Thank you for watching sir! 👍🐵

I have seen a few reviews of this non-MASK vehicle, and everyone has struggled with those "white wall" tyre stickers. They should have paid someone to paint them. I guess that would make it cost more, but it would be much less annoying.
@MonkeyboysToys Жыл бұрын
Well the whole toy is very cheaply made. Not sure what the original retail price was, but I'm glad I got it for under a tenner. I imagine a lot of parents weren't too pleased putting those tyre stickers on, and I bet there will be loads of wonky ones on EBay in the near future. There's no way this toy will hold its value. You won't be able to give them away. Thanks for watching, dude. Have a swell week my friend 👍🐵

I suppose it's not too bad for the price, but I don't think I would have gone much higher. It's difficult to say without first seeing a review, though, because otherwise it looks okay. I never knew why Kenner put the gunner's chair on the roof. It would have looked so much better if they'd just made the car the way it was in the cartoon. All the best, Monkeyboy. Have a good week.
@MonkeyboysToys Жыл бұрын
Yeah the gunner's chair always did feel like a peculiar decision, and it makes a real difference to the price of vintage examples even though nobody seems to like it! Thanks for watching and leaving your comment, Stephen, your support is greatly appreciated. Have a splendid week my friend 👍🐵

@@MonkeyboysToys Hello, mate. Yes, the Kenner line was quite strange in general. The actual figures were really good, but there were definitely some odd decisions made. I thought the neutron stream things should have been separate pieces which could then have been threaded through the guns when required. This would have been a bit like a forerunner to the blast effects of today and would have made the figures look so much better when the weapons weren't in use. I think the fire station is really nice looking, probably one of the best playsets from the time in that regard, but I've heard it doesn't really do that much aside from just looking good. Scale is also quite strange throughout the line. The Real Ghostbusters is a weird one for me. Although I loved the cartoon and had some of the figures, I think this was the point when I began to lose interest in playing with toys and became more of a collector. It was a very strange feeling, and a bit sad in a funny sort of way. Do you have any recollections of when this happened to you? Hope you're okay, Monkeyboy. Take care.
@MonkeyboysToys Жыл бұрын
@@stephengray8374 Yeah the proton streams were always a bit awkward to display. The Firehouse is an impressive display piece but had limited play value. It was my Holy Grail (or as I prefer to say, White Whale) for the longest time, but I was lucky enough to find a mint example a few months ago and add it to the collection. It takes pride of place on my coffee table! I will do a video on it at some point. I think the last line I remember playing with was MASK. After that I became more interested in girls and video games (in that order lol). I really only started collecting in 2019 after my mum passed away. I found that collecting toys from my childhood really helped me to have something to focus on. Then I discovered the Hasbro Black Series figures and fell in love with the detail and articulation (even though I don't open boxed figures). I then realised that I really enjoyed collecting both vintage and modern toys and decided to start a KZbin channel to share my interest with others. I didn't plan on having such a large collection, it just sorta happened by accident. I didn't realise I was a legitimate toy collector until about 2021, when I started to expand into collecting MOTU, Transformers, and even more MASK that I didn't have as a child. After that I decided to collect the core pieces from Ghostbusters and Thundercats, and in the past year I've been heavily into the Playmobil 80s licences. Now my collection is displayed throughout my whole house. There isn't a single surface anywhere that isn't covered with toys. I guess in a way I'm still playing with them, albeit in a different way. When I was a small boy my father owned a toy shop, and I think that's why I am mainly an in-box collector. The sight of toys in package and on card gives me strong feelings of nostalgia and promise. Once a toy is opened I don't find it as appealing any more. Weird, isn't it? Thanks for watching and for the great comment! Stay groovy sir 👍🐵
@stephengray8374 Жыл бұрын
@@MonkeyboysToys I understand what you mean about the promise being lost once the item is opened. Even though I'm not an in-box collector myself, there is something special about seeing toys displayed in that way. When MOTU Origins came out and the figures were back in the shops, it sent the nostalgia into overdrive! Just seeing them there was a real blast from the past, and felt like you'd stepped back in time nearly 40 years (if only!) If I could afford to do it, I'd like a room full of boxed 80s action figure lines to go along with a display of those I've already opened. I think I'd just sit there looking at them for hours on end! I'd call it the "box room." I have to say, it must have been great to have a dad who owned a toy shop. To a kid that has to be the best job a dad could possibly have! Funnily enough, I only got into collecting modern lines myself about three years ago, starting with Transformers: War For Cybertron, and then moving on to MOTU Origins. I only got into the Black Series last year, but the ones I have are some of my favourite figures. I've been really lucky and stumbled on some great deals with them. I hope I can do the same with the new Rebel Commando which looks great, but is a bit overpriced I think. Before this I collected vintage off and on for years, and I think there is something about wanting to recreate happy childhood memories that keeps me doing so. Books and comics have the same effect and I often retreat into a Fighting Fantasy gamebook if I've had a particularly rubbish day. I'm glad you were able to find something that made you happy after your mom passed away. I imagine your channels have made a lot of people happy too, so the good feelings have continued to spread. Take care, mate.

Yeah the Playmobil one kicks this one's ass. I guess this one does scale well with the original figures, but I think the best option at the moment is the Hasbro Classic Ecto1 reissue that came out a couple of years ago. That one is identical to the original Kenner toy with the exception of an enclosed winch mechanism underneath. Thanks for watching sir! 👍🐵

Oh, Hasbro have made something cheap, nasty and disappointing, well there’s a surprise….. Actually to be fair the original Kenner Ecto 1 was also cheap and nasty and a bit disappointing so I guess Hasbro are just following the trend. I don't like how the Wheel Stickers are done its akin to the round circles for paper to put them in binders when rip them. I can see a piece of hair on the door too. I don't really like Afetrlife even though seen it like 100 times. None of the new characters are really interesting unless maybe the male school teacher to a degree. Phoebe is not that bad at telling jokes or the reject Shortround or Goonies dude. I am the only person who watches it. I would rather drop money on the Back To The Future Dolorean. I think I have a 4 inch figure of Marty along with that vehicle perhaps? Its not playmobil so I could be confusing him with the GI Joe driver for Hovercraft or somebody who has that kinda design. For me the Phoebe pictures make me think it would be included or should be. By not including her it would really irk me. I'd rate it C Minus heh :).
