@dontask28447 жыл бұрын
As a second note, guy asks why is he here talking about how the anti-cheat works. The speaker didn't answer it very eloquently I didn't think. The point is that obfuscation only slows cheat creators down. It does nothing to prevent them. Your idea has to be bulletproof. You should always assume that the hackers know exactly how your system works, and search for the holes in your theory based on that idea. Security by obfuscation is a massive anti-pattern in the security community. It doesn't work. You must assume that all exploits are known and the time to implement zero. Therefore, sharing exactly how your system works shouldn't matter too much. I understand why they want to keep secret how they are tracking the HWID even after it's been spoofed, but the pros will quickly figure this out anyways. That's my point. If your security hinges on people not knowing your system, then you are doing security by obfuscation, and it will eventually fail.

The question about releasing your on hacks to bait people in is a great idea, I believe the technical term for it is called a honeypot. It's used a lot in cyber security, problem is with the deployment of it, if you release it on a public forum you'll probably catch the bulk of the cheaters but they will probably be casual or noob cheaters, but the serious cheaters will continue to use their private cheats as they probably mistrust anything to do with public cheats (rightly so). If the devs wanted to go full metal jacket they would release on a public forum and then create a subscription based private website for cheats, release the cheats under different names and have different UI's, watch the Users grow and then use the banhammer.

@BlondProGamer3 жыл бұрын
How DayZ developers are dealing with cheaters? The short answer is, "THEY DON'T". Period. All the official servers are filled with cheaters. It's like the developers are having some kind of a contract with the people, who are selling the cheats to the players. A player buys the cheat, a player gets banned for using the cheat and buys another copy of Dayz. Profit!

The only game I've ever seen with is near unhackable is the Phoenix engine for halo wars. It randomizes the values every game. So it's pretty hard to get the algorithm down to get the right spot everytime. So it will just un sync your game and kick you. It's possible I've seen it done online. But it's hard

There is no true randomization, the randomization happens based on an algorythm. Crack the algorythm = basically same as every other game to hack after that.

5:25 Things like BattlEye are evil - at least to a certain degree. My opinon on this is that requiring kernel mode software is something you should not do if you don't OS stuff (like hardware drivers). Me being a Linux guy, I absolutely hate it when companies do that because it immediately breaks Wine compatibility. I don't really believe that BattlEye is a rootkit but I generelly dislike trusting software, especially if it requires root/kernel. I don't say this because I cheat and believe what cheat developers say. I do it because pretty much everyone I've talked to about OS and security related topics has told me that software should always run as unpriviliged as possible. And you know, there is plenty of AAA games which don't rely on such kind of low level protection like BattlEye. I personally would prefer more development on statistically based algorithms (machine learning says hello) for cheat detection, preferably not for automatic banning. As others already mentioned being brand marked is kinda controversial.
@goksenincakr24665 жыл бұрын
Some cheats run on kernel level. So, in order to stop them, the anti-cheat has to run on kernel as well. However, anti-cheat running on kernel does not necessarily mean that it can stop any cheat running on the kernel. It is a complex and complicated business. There are also cheats which run on hypervisor mode (below kernel) or even on hardware (such as PCIeScreamer). There isn't much that an anti-cheat can do against them.

We need Os level anti-cheat on pc. Microsoft needs to design dx 12 to operate within a gamer mode on the os that uses a whitelist for everything that can load into memory. So you allow all the basic os services, hardware drivers etc, and the game to run, then encrypt it all or create a shield around it so it can't be tampered with.. How hard would that be to do? And no I wouldn't allow any multitasking, if you're going to play a game, thats all you should be doing.. If you wanna run utorrent and stream and download other crap, get another laptop or pc.. Just lock down the os in a gamer mode.. The other way of doing it without Microsofts help, would be to create a os within the os, that does essentially the same thing.. So when you launch the game, the pc restarts and boots up immediately into the gamer os environment, which then lists all the games on the hardrive, you select the one you want and hit play, from there it loads the game up.. It just locks down everything else the game/pc doesn't need to play.. To invasive? Don't play it.. If i was EA or some big triple A company I would be all over this..Then I would allow any game to plug into this os within an os so you could lease out rights to use it to other developers so their games would be hack proof as well.. Basically just disable the underlying windows os while in the gamer os environment.. Not only would that eliminate overhead from the main operating system, but you control the entire environment by limiting access to only the games directory and the gamer os directory.. It could start up and run like a linux live drive os.. If you don't know what that is, its basically a temporary install of linux os that runs off a cd or usb.. Whoever develops this idea would have to take encryption seriously to protect the software.. But i think just by limiting what can and can not load into memory would decimate the hacker community.. Since none of their overlays or dll injections would even run or load lol..
@DJ_POOP_IT_OUT_FEAT_LIL_WiiWii7 жыл бұрын
And you run that system on a pirated version of Windows genius? The only way to prevent cheating would be to embed the game and OS into a temper proof ROM chip. You can keep crying in your little games, big business don't give a damn they sell to enterprise which do not *cheat*.
@tjl88847 жыл бұрын
I actually don't play shooters anymore. Too many millennial snow flakes cheat cause they suck at life but they were given a star for showing up and pushed threw the grades into real life.. The only way they can win is to cheat because putting effort into something, wasn't taught to them. So when they lose in real life things, they cheat to get that gold star...
@sean81026 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't allow any multitasking, if you're going to play a game, thats all you should be doing.. If you wanna run utorrent and stream and download other crap, get another laptop or pc.. Just lock down the os in a gamer mode.." Yeah that would go over real well, people would love that. Just completely take away one of the best features of a PC (its multitasking power) anytime you launch a game. No discord, no OBS for streamers. Microsoft could have a FAQ page with stuff like this "Wanna stream your gameplay? Get a second Windows PC. Can't afford it? Well fuck you. Thank you for using Windows :) " So yeah obviously locking down people's PC like that anytime they launch a game is simply not a option and will never happen. The backlash alone Microsoft would get from users and the technical nightmare of implementation and problems it could cause make it a no go. Besides I grantee you the turds that develop cheats for money would find a way around it, would only be a matter of time. Then its only the legit players being punished and restricted. And your second idea if your talking about a new OS just for gaming that would be a massive undertaking. All the popular engines like UE4, Unity, CryEngine etc plus publishers with their own in house engines would have to do the massive task of supporting this new OS, all the middleware that game devs use like Havok, FMOD, wwise etc would have to do the same. devs would have to learn and train on how to write for this OS and its API's etc etc. Not to mention all PC games now a days have their own launchers like Steam, U-play, Origin, Battle.net, Bethesda.net. All these digital store fronts would need to be written to support it. I'd be shocked if companies put the huge resources into doing this just to maybe have cheating eliminated from their MP games. but the cheat creators would just focus on finding vulnerabilities in this OS if it ever actually got any popularity. Plus I don't thing people would be thrilled about dual booting just to play games. And believe me I fucking hate cheaters (hate when people call em hackers, it requires no talent). I was actually having a blast playing Rust with a friend for about a week and then we had two cheaters with auto aim that let them head shot people the second they could see them. Lost all of our stuff in the game, well we destroyed it all as they were breaking into our house and talking shit to us. But it ruined the game for us and we never touched it since and could not get a refund since this pre dated steam refunds. But its always gonna be a cat and mouse game between anti cheat and cheat devs. I don't play a ton of PVP multiplayer games but I notice running into cheaters has become less frequent over time for me. From what I've read BattleEye has gotten pretty damn good at detecting cheaters. I love looking at the forums of the paid cheat sites and seeing people saying they got banned, usually because of a game that uses BattleEye. I also noticed that a few of the paid sites simply said they can't offer undetectable cheats for BatteEye games. I wish BattleEye was used in pretty much every multiplayer game. Also its completely un acceptable for a multiplayer game on PC to have ZERO anti cheat specifically AAA games since budget is not a excuse. And its crazy but some still do launch without any protection. No excuse for any dev/publisher that can afford it, and it sends a clear message that the dev/publisher dose not give a fuck about their PC customers (when its multiplatform).
