We leave the giant barn spiders under the eve of the house, sure they snag the occasional small bird but we seldom have hornet nests and they do wonders at keeping the skeeters and flies down! Plus in the late fall they start hanging down lower on the side of the house to catch the last of the suns rays... And the Blue Jays start picking them off the side of the house... My brother was bitten by what he said was a giant white tip and after a couple of hours he was vomiting and had a migraine and fever so I drove him to the hospital where he spent over 48 hrs being treated for the effects of the bite that seemed to really last despite treatment. When the spider guy asked for a description from my brother he said he thought it was actually a male mouse spider bite and that explained the symptoms as they are considered potentially dangerous especially the females. People like you and bugs and biology out here myth-busting Australian wildlife is a vital resource, the more people who aren’t immediately turned away by venomous animals are more people who can potentially help with awesome conservational work or even just spread the word!! When I was 17 I was bitten by a white-tailed spider. It was in my bed, I checked to see what it was and make sure it wasn't a redback. The spot got very red sore and itchy, from memory it took a week to completely redness to disappear. This happened the first week of October. From then on, every year it would flare up again late September or early October. It would get red sore and itchy for a week or so. As I got older it would flare up at more random times. I am now in my 60's and it may flare up a few times a year.

Excellent video Jack! I'm quite familiar w/most of the world's "dangerous " animals and the purported "deadly " White-tailed spider is no exception. I'm happy you may have cleared up the little spider's reputation....even a little bit, but there's always a percentage of people who will never listen (so sad...for the spider). I know that I've mentioned the Sicarius Spider many times but how about a few other species this time....in the US, in my neck of the wood, Washington DC there is an invasive species from Europe.....supposedly a relative the Brown Recluse Spider, the Yellow Sac Spider. It's kind of a Yellow to tan color w/a bright yellow abdomen. Another Spider I've heard about but not encountered is a supposedly dangerous Hobo Spider in the Pacific Northwest. The Hobo Spider's venom, like the Brown Recluse, is reported to have a necrotic effect and is a "Funnel-web " spider. A third candidate could be the final Widow species....the White Widow Spider (Latrodectus pallidus) located in North Africa, the Middle East and central Asia. You've showcased various Black Widow spider species, the Brown Widow and the gorgeous Red Widow Spider.....but the White needs to come into the spotlight too. Now the difficulty is finding a country that is more Hospitable to tourists central Asia are a lot of the -Stans ....Kazakhstan and such and the Middle East....might not be a good area either, currently. North Africa is a wash w/the exception of Morocco which is in Globe awards top 10 safe African countries to visit of 2023. It would be an incredible video to see the , little known, White Widow Spider. Anyway, cool t-shirt (Australian blue-ringed Octopus- extremely toxic spit) and as always, stay safe Jack.

Cool spiders. One of my absolute favorites is the Sydney Funnel Web. Thank you for saying venomous and not poisonous. I know that you know the difference, but for the life of me, how supposedly "intelligent" people get that wrong is astounding. I even have survival books that have entire chapters dedicated to "poisonous" snakes, scorpions and spiders. How that gets by editors, again, is mind numbing. Anyway, venom is injected, poison is ingested to those who don't know the distinction. If it has venom glands, it's venomous.
@JacksWorldofWildlife10 ай бұрын
It’s because the delineation is a recent one. It’s also the same word in many languages. It’s not necessarily incorrect to say, although in English venomous is definitely more accurate.

Indeed, as humans encroach further and further on the habitats of animals we will find that we will encounter these animals more often. At least until they are pushed out completely. There has been talk that the necrosis comes from bacteria in the bite and we have a few locations where you can get a necrotic skin infection called amongst other things "Bairnsdale Ulcer". I was bitten by one that ended up in my boot and ended up with a scaly lesion about 2cm in diameter for about 6-8 months. I think a lot of it has to do with how good your immune system is. I have been bitten by a golden orb weaver or something that fell down my singlet and resulted in a ~5mm black necrotic patch but rubbing eucalyptus oil on it cleared it up in a few days. I think that suggests bacterial origin too. In any case we are biologically all individuals to doing these tests as you do can in fact carry great risk because there are so many variables.

In regards to the Brown Recluse, I hear what you're saying about how you didn't have a severe reaction. The only issue I have is that everyone doesn't react the same to venom of the BR or other species of spiders notorious for causing harm. I remember the video where you took the bite of the Black Widow. You had a tolerable reaction to that as well. Many people are knocked on their ass because of a widow bite, especially children. I mean they have to go to the ER and get morphine to tolerate the pain as the venom runs its course. Some people when bitten by the BR see it with their own eyes. Just because you tolerate many of these bites doesn't mean everyone can just suck it up and keep on pushing.

Free handled a white tail this evening whilst attempting to save it from my wife’s shoe. Good news - it was chill as, didn’t bite me, and it didn’t get squished. Not saying it was 100% comfortable for me, but for my first time having a spider crawling over me on purpose, it was pretty relaxing, all things considered.

That's a baby white tail I've caught bigger but vets warn dogs can die from a white tail spider

I wonder if there are spiders on other planets

That would be cool! It’s a good body plan, in the vast universe I wouldn’t be surprised if there were spider-like creatures somewhere else!

You should do a video just like this but about the North American Hobo spider. It's said that it too causes necrosis. But as of late it's being said Hobos are not dangerous.
@JacksWorldofWildlife10 ай бұрын
Indeed they are completely harmless! I’ll do a video on them eventually I’m sure!

Not sure yet! Doing an overhaul on the current merchandise situation and some designs will be retired until further notice.

I had 3 of these crawl on me while I was house sitting in Australia one time thank god none of them bit me
@JacksWorldofWildlife10 ай бұрын
They’re not really quick to bite at all. Bites happen when they are pinned against the skin accidentally.
@coptotermes9 ай бұрын
You get bitten by a harmless little tiny spider. It causes you to itch so you scratch. You then get a staff infection… The spiders are harmless.
@johnruiz67438 ай бұрын
Sure, all spiders are harmless. Go make a video of you taking a bite from a Sydney Funnel Web and then tell us how harmless it is? GTFO! 👎

Hello Jack. I don't know if you'll be able to see my comment, but if you do, could you please respond back? I've personally known people that told me that they had to go to a doctor after claiming that they were not feeling well after a spider laying eggs under their skin. They would say the doctor let them know that spider eggs were removed from underneath their skin. When I looked this up on Google, it stated that none of this was true.
@JacksWorldofWildlife9 ай бұрын
Absolutely incorrect. There are no spider species that do that. They are severely mistaken.

Do you think it’s possible that the people who say they saw the spider bite them and they get this terrible necrotic wound is it possible that they’re allergic to the venom and that is why they had such a bad issue or even death in some cases
@JacksWorldofWildlife10 ай бұрын
It has never been observed in spider bites to have severe allergic reactions to venom. It is unlikely that this is the case as allergic reactions also do not present in this way.

@rkchoka75557 ай бұрын
Bro not every one reacts the same to a recluse bite, some people really had it rough. As well their venom might be more potent depending on their diet and depending on the outside tempsrature.
@JacksWorldofWildlife7 ай бұрын
There’s no evidence to suggest that statement is true. Brown recluse venom has not been discovered to vary from individual to individual in that way
