Brown widows is only species I purposely go out of my way to kill. We used to have beautiful banded garden spiders and even occasionally black widows around until the brown widows. They got rid of all of them and probably other species i didn't notice. then adding insult to injury, the build right in the path. Never got bit despite literally walking into them very often, but still a nuisance all around. And they seem impossible to eradicate.

My sister got bit by a brown recluse, I understand it was an extreme case but it almost killed her because of how her body reacted to the venom. She lost a huge chunk out of her arm and also caused cellulitis. Doctor told my mom that it can flare up at any time now for the rest of her life

Wow! That sounds like a really nasty reaction. My late mother got bit on the back of her thumb in her early 20s. I don't remember what it looked like when it was fresh but I recall her saying that it left blood blisters under her skin all the way up to her elbow. After it had healed though there was a dime sized scar on the back of her thumb, that resembled a very bad burn scar, clear up to the end of her days.
@Cantloss4
@Cantloss4 Жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry to hear about your sister, that is terrifying and one thing he doesn’t really go over is that every person has different reactions and for the most part, you’d expect the reaction he has, but that doesn’t take into mind the people that are allergic, have immune system issues, children and elders, all of which can have much worse reactions to the venom. But overall, I do believe there is so much more fear around spiders than need be, they really don’t like to bite us, which I think is the main point he is trying to teach but it would be nice for him to caution those things I said. I’m so glad that your sister got through it ok and I hope it doesn’t affect her life badly now.
@athelwulfgalland
@athelwulfgalland Жыл бұрын
@@Cantloss4 I agree that our fear of spiders is disproportionate to the actual threat they pose to a vast majority of humanity. However I'm suspicious that it is a genetically inherited aversion. Case in point; I'm not terribly fond of or fearful of spiders. My mother was bit after I was born, of course. My sister though? She is genuinely arachnophobic; Just like my mother came to be after her experience with just that one spider. My father had several brushes with sharks & foul weather while surfing or fishing offshore of Cali. I nearly drown as a young child when my supervisor wasn't doing much supervising. I used to have issues with water where my feet couldn't touch bottom; Until I learned to love to swim just off the bottom. Now it's only water where I cannot see the bottom that I have an issue with. My wife had a bad run in with a bully at a pool when she was pretty young. He literally pushed her under & stood on her until she lost consciousness. Today both of my children are fine with spiders but they have some issues with deep water. My son is tentatively but almost anything can set him off into a panic. My daughter panics the moment her feet can't touch bottom. The possibility of fears being a genetically inherited trait is still debated among academics of course, but I'm still in the camp that believes in it.

That’s awful!! I had a coworker get bitten by one, and after she spent several weeks in the hospital, fighting chronic infection at and around the wound site, she was very lucky to survive and eventually ended up with what looked very much like a really large ice cream scoop of flesh & muscle missing from her leg. I was shocked this guy willingly allowed himself to be bitten… you couldn’t pay me enough to do that. 😵‍💫

Love your videos and love that you are helping take the stigma away from “creepy crawlies” I have loved spiders, snakes and bugs my whole life and have spider friends that live in my house that I get attached to, always sad when the season ends and I lose them, they are so beneficial and I’ve honestly not ever had a thing happen. I live in an area without venomous spiders but I do find some false widows in my house, from a flower shell I brought into my home and not one person in all five of us have EVER gotten bit by one let alone any other spider. As long as they are up high minding their business, I leave them alone, if they are down around the house, I put them outside and I just have so much appreciation for insects of all kind, and I have so much appreciation for you educating people and lessening the stigma

Holy crap dude I just found your channel, I am very impressed by what you and your team do. You get stung not to draw attention but to help us realize we aren't doomed if we get stung as media makes us believe. I feel a lot calmer now if I ever get stung again (most I've had was a yellow jacket, aftermath was worst than the actual sting, didn't even realize it as I was trying to catch the toddler from jumping off the diving board 😂). After seeing your videos I REALLY wish I remember what spider bit my aunt. She was at the airport checking in when she suddenly became sweaty and lightheaded. She had to sit down until it passed but afterward she thought she was fine. She never took any medicine and just went about her business until a week later I told her something had to bite her. The bite air SWELLED and became purple with a black ring. I told her to please see a doctor because nercosis was starting to set in as she wasn't treating it. We sent her some pictures of spiders bites common in our area and she finally went to the doctor where they treated her properly. It was crazy to see how large it got (looker like a huge bubble on her thigh) and how fast her skin started deteriorating. I would love to figure out what spider it was and see if you have covered a video on it! Thanks for all the hard work, stay safe

My uncle lived in Alabama “passed away from Covid” but he did construction and over the years was bit by brown recluse and black widows SOOOOO MANY TIMES!! Was always perfectly fine no issues at all but a friend of mine got bit by a recluse and she spent weeks in the hospital with 3 surgeries lost the bottom part of her leg from the knee down. A lot of it was due to the infection not the actual bite itself I’m pretty sure but just crazy the difference

10:40 This spider scares me now when I see it. Last august. Was actually August 8th I was bitten by this spider on my right big toe. I went to hospital for it and I have to wrap the toe with iodine soaked gauze for a whole week. Though was healing but then it a hole formed on the side of my toe and it never healed. Instead gotten worse over time to where the tissue around the area turn black and harden. But still the hole was there. I seen my doctor yesterday and cause of so much damage around the bite site that the tissue can't heal cause it's dead. So I have to see a specialist to see what to do but depending if it's deep near the bone that they may have to amputate and I have lost all feeling except for pain. But I can't feel me wiggling it or even touching it. But it's also starting to slowly effect the sensation of the neighboring toe but it still has it's full coloration and slight numbness but to save the rest of the toe or foot that it probably best for it to get amputated so your right. That the brown recluse really isn't a spider you want to get bit by and for my case I wasn't lucky to receive a bite that didn't cause short term issues but instead long term.

I thought I had put my knee on a sharp corner of a Lego, or some hard plastic toy. That’s exactly what it felt like. But when I jumped up, I saw the poor jumper dead right where my knee had been. Almost immediately, a red streak went down my leg from my knee to about halfway down my shin.

I've been bitten by a brown recluse and I have to say, if you live where they are common its so important to check your clothing. One day I put on a shirt without checking and felt a very painful sting and on my belly and guess what, a spider crawled out from my shirt and ran away. Didn't panic as I also kept tarantulas, scorpions, spiders and stuff like that. It took like two weeks to heal but all in all never had to go to the hospital. These invertebrates don't attack but check your clothes and shoes because as soon as the feel pinned and have skin near them they will defend themselves and bite.

Found a bold jumping spider in my attic a few months ago. The bright emerald color was the coolest looking spider I’ve ever seen. That and all the positive videos on jumping spiders I was tempted to handle it. Being the 5th worst bite I’m glad I didn’t. It was a very cool looking spider.

As a kid I was bitten by a jumper on my big toe. I must have scared it into thinking it was gonna get squished enough to get me even though I had no idea it was there. What a crazy sharp pinch they give! It did not deter me from loving them. Phiddipus are the coolest little critters. You and MyWildBackyard have reignited my fascination with arachnids, and now I'm looking into getting some jumpers as pets, eventually breeding them, and then releasing the little hunters into my garden and backyard.

is there an anti venom to black widow bites or do you just have to treat the symptoms?
@JacksWorldofWildlife
@JacksWorldofWildlife Жыл бұрын
There is but it’s honestly super dangerous to use. I recommend treating symptomatically only.

fantastic in demonstrating how much all those animals prefer flight instead of fight, only choosing to defend themselves when offered no chance of escape. i was bitten by a black widow on the ankle while clearing trees/storm damage and proceeded to lie for 36 hours balled in the fetal position on my mothers couch. never been tasered, but my entire body felt like i had been jolted by electricity and then my nerve endings all started constricting all my muscles for days. an interesting side effect-i used to drink beer heavily for almost 15 years straight. had been drinking when bitten(no i did not harass the spider and never knew it was in the limbs i had stepped into) and since that night, i stopped drinking altogether. the taste of beer/alcohol became totally repulsive to me. it continues to this day. i feel your pain Jack. thanks for educating us.

I would not want to ever have to fight this man, his pain tolerance is supernatural. The kinda guy that can take everything you have. Then have a serious moment of humility and fear at the same time knowing he's just started and your done haha.

I was bitten by a rusty centipede, much smaller, central Europe, and I found it rather interesting. The initial pain subsided,so did the itching after a day or so, and after that the place became numb. I observed a simmilar necrosis you experienced with the recluse spider, and I was just cutting off the dead edges with a scalpel, no big deal, it didn't hurt. It was numb for like 3 weeks.

I believe I had a scorpion sting or black widow bite last fall after grabbing a dead log. Not my first time if it was a widow. This event caused me to have numb lips for about 12 hrs! Weird symptoms for sure since the bite/sting occurred on my finger.
@DrillToPierceTheHeavens

For the black widow, and most spiders, they actually use their fangs to get a better grip. These are always dry bites and do not signify aggression. So the part where she was on his finger and she looked like she was trying to bite him, she was more than likely going for a better grip on his hand.

I was bitten by a brown recluse about 25 years ago and still have the scar on my forearm from the aftereffects but I was fine overall it was similar looking as how your arm looked in the weeks afterwards. The wolf spider bite was basically nothing other than the initial pinch from the bite. But a wasp sting is far more painful than any spider bite I've had but I don't go looking for the bites and avoid them whenever possible lol. Nearly got bitten by a copperhead luckily he came up less than an inch short of my leg. Also had a black widow crawling on my side but got it off me quickly. Now the scariest experience which wasn't dangerous at all just the way it happened I woke up with a roughly 4 ft long and very well fed based on his size snake balled up around my feet in the bottom of my sleeping bag and I do not care for snakes lmao he was definitely on my face/neck at some point since it was kinda cold and I had the sleeping bag zipper all the way up so that was fun to think about lol. He definitely wasn't a threat just wanted my body heat but it wasn't the best wake up regardless.
