Rice totally gives us the flexibility as a set up and also in play. 105M seems much, but it should be understood as bringing in 2-3 top players but all inside one body!! Good biz!!

Arteta has spoken about how he wants 'impacters' coming from Bench and now he has plenty of players who can change the game. I remember Sir Alex used to rotate his midfielders according to the opposition. Sometimes its Giggs and Scholes sometimes its Fletcher and Carrick, Sometimes its Scholes and Carrick with Giggs tucking in. Or they play with one less forward will form a midfield 3. Knowing how to use his squad was something that made SAF so succesful with more games I can see Arteta going in that direction.. and he will need to have players the quality Jorginho, Partey and Rice in the squad and not to mention Havertz and academy players like Nweneri to do so.

I do suspect Rice will play more in the 6th role his first season with arsenal, especially if partey does leave the club, but I do suspect arteta has plans to play rice more as a box to box once the the 6th position is sorted out. Based on the numberge friendly, it seems like there is a chance kuviar could step up as a solid 6, same with timber potentially as well.

There are so many things you mentioned about rice that are utterly ridiculous . You said that he is the complete midfielder, he is anything but. He can't even get turned on the ball to make a forward pass . This is one of the reasons why England were so awful against the USA, because the USA pressed the hell out of rice and all rice could do was play sideways passes. Honestly if England ever get a competent manager Adam Wharton will replace rice in midfield . Wharton has all the attributes to be the complete midfielder where all rice is a destroyer who can carry the ball forward. Rice is so limited on the ball . He can't play line breaking passes, one touch football football , doesn't score goals . As far defensive midfielders go he is way behind Rodri, Casemiro , Caicedo , Ndombele etc.

Arteta never has both of his fullbacks go high and wide primarily but instead transitions into a 3-2-4-1 shape with the left back (zinchenko, kiwior or tierney) inverting into cdm and the right back (white, tomiyasu, or now timber) tucking into form a back three with license to occasionally overlap in the final third. Rice will either play the sitting six or the free 8 depending on the opponent.

Mbappe would cost the club €400m to £500m in wages, signing fees and bonuses. He would be very good on paper but I'm not sure of his character in the changing room. You've seen how Arteta gets with players that have attitude issues (Auba, Guendouzi) It would be exciting but that money would get us 4 world-class talents. Osimeh, Tchouameni, Theo Hernandez, and Leao, now that would be a transfer window to remember (we can even throw one of those Chelsea Deathrow 7-8 year contracts in there lmao)

Fairly sure Arteta's intention is Rice at base in front of defence (DM) and Havertz and Odegaard ahead of him with the 3 front men Martinelli-Jesus-Saka ahead of them. Jorginho, Partey, Rice? Are they the midfields for Arsenal? If so then along with Timber, many combinations and variations seem possible and of course squad rotation or injury-replacement depth. My guess is that if there's a good offer for Partey, Arsenal will try to sell him at his highest value at age 30? Especially with the signing of Rice being so expensive and Rice being so consistent in avoiding injury. That said if Rice were injured, in that case Arsenal would 100% need a stand in eg Partey or who else?
