From Anime's side: Samurai Champloo is a love letter to Japanese hip-hop and Nujabes's (RIP) soundtrack put a lot of fans on, from hip-hop to anime and vice-versa. The culture wouldn't be where it is today without Samurai Champloo and Nujabes.

All the Adult Swim bumps/promos for the shows like dbz, samurai champloo, cowboy bebop, big o, inuyasha, etc. are considered legendary for us who grew up with it. The smooth, straightforward hip hop they used was incredible. We’ll hold that forever.
@shawnvaughn916 жыл бұрын
I would say the influence of anime on black music in America is a two-way street. Yeah, there are a lot of references to anime that you could find in a lot of hip hop songs, but there's also a lot of inspiration from various music styles that make an appearance in anime. As a matter of fact the Cowboy Bebop example that you guys pulled up was inspired by bebop music in the United States it was inspired by jazz. If you listen to a lot of the opening or closing themes for a good chunk of the popular anime you'll find there are some hip hop music themes that find their way in there. Since the 70s there's been this kind of back-and-forth of inspiration between the two and it's great.

Akira wasnt my first anime but when I showed to my grandma and my mom (and im black) they started watching anime like berserk and shit like that. While I was a fan of DragonBall im not so much now I havent even seen the newer one cause XYZ but as far as the struggle of the black man to DBZ Akira Toriyama was poor and from something like the inner city so I see how one relates regardless. Also! Where all the damn Xavier Wulf and Ramierez fans out here?
@williejones64466 жыл бұрын
One more thing. Theres an anime called Mitchiko and Hatchin, about somesort of afrocentric latin woman whose some sort of ex gangster and, her baby Hatchin. Action drama. Another anime black lagoon: A japanese business man, a chinese gunfighter, an american hacker, and a black boat captain (And he runs the whole shit) run a shady/ black market delivery company. Sexy gunfights dumb jokes and crime drama.
