Exactly right. I have a test nugget in a pill jar that I keep with me. A sort of angular bit. I can see it with the 7000 to an inch or so if I go slow. The 5000 can’t see it at all. The SDC can see it sometimes but not other times. Maybe the way it lays in the jar. A similar size nugget can be found much deeper. This has made me aware that shape of the nugget has a lot to do with depth capability of the detector. And yes the 7000 is an amazing machine. It’s like the 5000 and the SDC rolled into one. Love your videos. Your always right.

The first metal detector I owned was a inexpensive one . Before VLF became popular. Sometimes you could pick up AM radio on it and sometimes it ment the day was over. Too much rock and roll on the machine. The key is a good set of headphones and the knowledge of what it is telling you. Most folks I see in videos and on TV go way to fast ; they miss a lot. I enjoy the beaches of Florida . I would like to try out west one day, but there is gold in east Tennessee , so I will be staying close to home.

Also another factor which I found is Detecting near power lines. Pulse doesn't work. VLF works. Also I found over the years the Gpx5000 I used missed a lot of small targets. Which the VLF picked up again. So good to have different tech on hand depending on location.

There are pulse machines with a cancel mode to knock out or at least greatly reduce the affect of power lines. But its true that the lines affect the PIs more than the VLFs.

I'm waiting for a video on hard rock mine detecting ( conglomerate so old the sledge hammer indicates harder than Quartzite and granites and it's solid black all the way through every inch of it.) and especially a video going down a seasonal river that only runs high in Spring and has rocks, cobbles and gravels with no soil at all until up the bank a bit. Those are the two I'm going for soon. Hope to see one or both videos on those type . There's so much pocket air spaces in cobbles and boulders.

@@ChrisRalph One thing that has confused me in the past is what is bedrock. Almost every video mentions it, but none define it. The electromagnetic waves generated in the coil of the detector induce an electric current in the gold metal in the ground. That current creates its own small electromagnetic field and that is what the detector sees.

I recently made a video comparing my many detectors using a video camera. I was in a gold field at Quartzsite Az. trying to find a target the other detectors would not find. It was sunny out and I did not realize the camera strap was in front of the lens, (I had it on a tripod so my hand was not in the strap). My newer detectors like the Whites 24k had clearer audio, but the older ones like the Tesoro Lobo ST still found the same targets. I may take another vacation to redo the video.

The detector emits electromagnetic waves, the waves induce a response in the target, and that response is what the detector sees. Lots of info on the web you can do more research to learn more detail.

its magnetic fields that are detected by metal detectors. The size of the target matters - that is what I said in the video - an 800 foot long target like a submarine would be a lot easier to detect that a 1 gram nugget.

The real question is, what detectors have been in the patch before I got there? Has the ZED been there? When you first detect a patch area, you can tell, by the targets and gold shape which detectors have been in the area. The VLF's will leave the rusty bits and jagged gold nuggets, and targets under and near bushes/trees truncks. They also leave behind 0.6 gram nuggets at 6 inches and 0.8 gram nuggets at 8 inches, and 1.5 gram nuggets at a foot. The SDC 2300 cleaned up. SDC can detect a half grain at an inch, round, not flat. The NOX can easily detect half grain at an inch, if it is under the sweet spot. The ZED, never let a ZED in your patch, unless you own it! Game over. It has a weak spot, not sensitive at the very edge, can't see anything within six inches of a nail. Most of the gold I have found, in the ZED hunted patch, the targets are small, near a tree trunk, or a nice nugget next to a nail. I personally own a... SDC 2200 modified, coiltech monoelite 14. My patch highgrader. SDC2300, my money maker, spend many hours in the Creeks. NOX 800, deadly on coins and nuggets hidden in trash. Hunt every patch with every detector, repeatedly, until all targets are removed. And then invite someone else to detect your old patch, amazing to watch, GOD hid a nugget, and they find it, and suddenly you find another fist full of gold.
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
Its really hard to hit every spot in a bigger area.
@fritzschwanserhauser22664 жыл бұрын
If nobody has, someone ought to develop a very sharp, thick, strong, shovel head that is also a coil, it seems it might solve some logistical problems. Then you could read it on a face viewer (vizor) rather than bend over to read the unit.
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
The problem is what do you make the shovel head out of? You can't use any metal or your detector will see the metal in the shovel and never anything in the ground. Plastic is too flimsy for a real shovel head - same for wood and a lot of other materials.
@fritzschwanserhauser22664 жыл бұрын
Yes some really tough synthetic (plastics)materials out there , perhaps with a bit of tungsten, or ? Molybdenum as a penetrating tip you'd be able to omit the signal, like is done with iron, not ideal for course grained rocky soil but perhaps riverine gravels, sands
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
Metal detectors detect metals - including Tungsten and Moly - not just iron.
@fritzschwanserhauser22664 жыл бұрын
The available hand held pin pointer rods, penetrate the soil better than a flat coil, yes or no? hencely, what if the soil penetrating " pin pointer" were twice as powerful, but could also.be pushed into the workings to detect deeper nuggets than the surface limited coil. Perhaps it is spear shaped, perhaps spoon shaped, made of very extreme hard hard replaceable sharp plastic digger. (no metal at all other than the coil) thus you could penetrate another inch or two better than others who are "coil bouncing" off the surface ground. Then you either got a wireless vizer read or sound alarm.

My property got wiped out this year by a fire and it exposed a ton of mining tailings along my creek and in the back country. I've even found some old mining sites (and cabins) not listed on any of the databases like Mylandmatters and "the diggings"

Depends on a whole lot of factors you did not mention.....

@@ChrisRalph Well I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Minelab 1000 because I'm new to detecting and it supposed to be prety easy to operate. I guess I'll just have to find out.

@@ChrisRalph My copper wire dowsing rods have found really tiny metal objects at 3 feet deep...which is really a lot deeper than I care to dig. Gotta remove so much dirt just to get down that far...makes a mess...and have to refill that hole afterward if it's in my front yard. I don't know just what the limits are for my rods...they don't discriminate one metal from another...so they're not very effective in creek beds where lots of iron/ mineralization is present. It's okay if you're a skeptic concerning dowsing rods...I just see it all through an Einstein quote "Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." I see it all the time where someone with no experience will be critical of someone else who has found an idea that works. I really wish there was less bull malarky in the metal detecting industry where they would post information on the packages of what their product's performance is at say detecting a given object (dime, 1 gram nugget, quarter) at various depths in unmineralized conditions...like say under a concrete block or under a foot of water. It would be great to be able to compare apples to apples in a scientifically measured way...rather than trying to guess whether a 300 dollar machine is as good as a 4000 dollar machine. And...I really wish companies like Garrett wouldn't make their machines sound like arcade games when they detect a target...I hate using my Garrett Ace 150...just hate the digital noises it makes. I prefer my cheapskate machine I got from Harbor Freight...works great for my purposes...totally in tune with it...though it won't detect very deep.

The fires are natures way of turning that land back to the desert it is. It will be desert longer than it will support vegetation.

Deserts are deserts because little rain falls there. Forests get significant rain, so things will grow. They are not the same.
