Thanks aunty B for this topic. My uncle did this to his wife. They have 3 kids now that sees him once every 2 years. Wife gets pregnant and doesn't see him even after delivery and he comes home when baby is months old. I tried to talk sense to her but it fell on deaf ears, she sees me as home breaker.

For a lot of these men it's not about love or companionship, it's just about having children and continuing their "lineage " young girls if you meet such men number one thing you should do guard your womb. Go on birth control immediately if after two years he has moved you over, it's either he has absolutely no intentions of bringing you or he hasn't got the correct documents to file for you, just wait.

To understand this whole dynamic...a book by Hanna Rosin called plastic women and cardboard men is a good place to start 📖 Oyibo went through this dynamic years ago and that's why they have studies about it. We as Africans are going through it now. It would be wise to learn from those who have been there before us to avoid repeating the same mistakes. As the world becomes more loose and smaller, the power dynamics will definitely change. In the book, it talks about how women are plastic and adaptive and how men are cardboard and rigid. And it talks about the dangers of raising our sons that way, as rigid men. We need to enlighten our sons. And we need forums to talk to our men about these changes. We also need to talk to our girls and our women about how to communicate your being plastic and more adaptive to a man without making him feel inferior. And men need to accept that the world is not the same and nowadays is about equity not authoritarianism

My question to the brothers marrying and leaving wife back in home country. When they get old/older does he then expect that woman to care for him, nurture him and be wife to him? I think at his old age some women become resentful and her response can be vengeful, who to blame her 🤷🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️

From experience and from what I have seen, black African men who are control obsessed in a marriage are guys who were raised poorly. Also, they have parents who tell them that they are great and tell them "soon it is your wife who is going to be doing all of these for you". Such as doing all of the cooking and cleaning, etc.

Well let not judge every marriage in that situation. Things are different from case to case. Ok so I have a family friend working as a CNA while going to nursing school with his wife and 4 kids in Nigeria. There is no way financially he can support a family of 6 (him, wife and 4 kids) on a CNA income in USA. He sends over $600 monthly for upkeep and travels once a year. Plus immigration cases now in the USA are taking longer expect to wait 2 to 3 years for both finacee and spousal visa. I do agree there are some men who don't plan to bring their wife aboard but the lady or ladies who chose this must be mentally prepared and know what they are getting into and should not assume that because the man is aboard that he plans to file immigration papers.
