The description about native american slavery is simply anti-european propaganda... Portugal didn't enslaved Indians, it bought Indian slaves from Indians. Indian slaves came mostly from tribes that fought against tribes allied with Portugal and lost in battle. When Portugal allied with an Indian tribe, it would treat them as equals to Europeans, giving Indian chieftains noble titles, tiles of military orders or important roles in the State administration (Indians could be judges or governors). Most of the imperial army in Brazil was made up by indigenous populations in the first century of European expansion and even "Flags" (bandeirantes) expeditions (which looked to capture Indians for enslavement) were majorly conducted by Indians loyal to the Portugal. Eventually European diseases would end up wiping indigenous populations. pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escravid%C3%A3o_ind%C3%ADgena_no_Brasil

Parece que foi mesmo, uma vez a França invadiu o Rio de Janeiro e os indígenas aliados a Portugal ajudaram a expulsar os Franceses e expurgar a tribo que havia traído Portugal.
