Cool to know that Brunei’s full name shares the same name with Dar Es Salaam, a city in east Tanzania. My father used to be there. Both names might be different when written in Latin alphabets but they have the same Arabic meaning.

Same thing at the Malay States in the Peninsular of Malaysia. There are 9 Malay States that has its own 'abode of'. My state full name is "Terengganu Darul Iman". In Sumatera, Indonesia, there are also Aceh Darussalam and Siak Darussalam.

@@leMiG31 there is theories regarding brunei origin name. No1 is baru ni which means some thing new. Kadayan called baru ni as baru nei according to their slanks. But still have the same meaning. No2 from arab traders who refer the land as ibruni. If we think carefully no1 theory is kinda logic. Baru ni or something new/ new land or whatsoever. Translate with different slanks. Baru ni (malay language) baru nei (kadayan malay slank) bru nei (british language) and lastly dutch colonial refering brun nei as bor neo. So its not baru nah thats it. Varuni or varuna ancient indian god. Thats totally bullshit

Brunei was actually named brunei because the person who found this country said “baru nah!” Which also means “finally” You cant prove me wrong cuz i literally live in Brunei ands its also in social studies.

@@nathanlim867 That is true. Hence we must cross-check them to look for historical objectivity. Not all foreign sources are reliable, neither do the local sources. Major works in constructing Bruneian history had been done, now is our turn to continue further the discussion, expand or even update as new evidences/sources appear. Actually, there are a lot but I personally think the main issue is how to get people interested :)

not alak betatar.when alak betatar. po li is the already existed. govern by dusun people. oldest tribe of borneo. they already lives in borneo more than 2000 years. until alak betatar came. soon arab also came so they changed po li to ibruni. many people find t hard to translate ibruni. so they just pronounce bruni or brunei. when dutch came they also got difficulty to pronounce brunei so they called it borneo

@@yon7088 yes awamg alak betayat gave the name. Im also agree with that. But there is 2 theories that we never thought at school. None of historian ever made some research. No 1. Brunei name came from the words baru ni. Which means something new in english. No2 it came from arab words ibruni which means hebrew in israel language. Let break down how it sounds brunei and not sounds ibruni or baru ni. No 1 is because awNhg alak betatar is kadayan. So he using kadayan slank. Which sound baru nei for baru ni. No2 ibruni maybe malay people found it hard to translate so they just say brunei. But if we look at closely. Maybe baru ni is brunei oldest name. But westerners called baru ni as bru nei. Reason why awang alak betatar called the land as baru ni. Because when he arrived he saw the land was belong to dusun people. What we know dusun people traditions doesnt look like malays especially their culture, what their wearing and language. So awang betatar refer that land as something new or this is new.

@@zachryizlost1113 if that is the case so awang alak betatar did not found the land. When he arrived or landed by his boat. He never said baru nah or finally ot thats it. He said baru ni which mean "this is new". Why he referring the land like that. Because when he arrived he saw dusun peoples already living there. What we know that dusun are not malay, their culture, traditions, customs, dress, clothing and language are different not like malay. Thats why awang alak betatar name the land as baru ni or this is new or something new. Baru means new. Ni means this. Becausr of aeang alak betatar is from kadayan so his slanks are different thats why baru ni sounds baru nei. Westerners refer baru ni as brunei. Only dutch refered brunie as borneo. According to arab merchants referring brunei as ibruni actually is not that really logic or have solid evidences that malay peoples are actually the lost tribes of israel who migrates to the east. But so close or almost logic is baru ni or baru nei. Not baru nah(finally/thats it) varuna/varuni/varun(indiangod/landofsea/seafarer)i. There is nothing such evidences that when alak betatar arrived the land is belong to no one or unhabitats. No the land is belongs to dusun people. Dusuns already lives there more than thousands years. And also no evidences showing brunei have connection with india according what is written in manuscripts, artifacts or archaelogical sites. Or maybe theories. Not even close. So history department of brunei needs to do some research again. Rewritten back the history. They always glorifying the malays. Brunei is not belongs to the malays. Before malays or kadayan came. Dusuns already living there. There is no 7 puak melayu. Dusun is not puak melayu. If kadayan yes they are part of puak melayu. Malays and kadayan are originally migrated from java, sumatra and malay peninsulars. Meanwhile dusun peoples are descendants from mongols and china. Now todays dusun peoples are just minorities in brunei. Unlike sabah half of their polulitions are kadazan dusun. Thousands years ago there was many dusun kingdoms existed especially in sabah and brunei. There are many differents type of dusuns groups like kadazan dusun, sea dusun or bajau, dusun tatana. Where most of dusuns in brunei are descendants from dusun tatana. When dusun mixed with chinese they were called as muruts or lunbawang. When dusun mixed with kadayan or malays they were called as brunei malays or bisaya

Dutch refering brunei as borneo that time. Brunei old name is baru ni. But britain called baru ni as brunei. Brunei get small because brunei were not attacked but because of rebellions and traitors who gave and sold the lands to the westerners. Brunei never owned filipina. Its just influences. Not all entire of borneo belongs to brunei empire. Only little areas especially the coastlines
