4 Days of Relentless Pounding and Rain. Is there more sand gone, did it take away large pieces of the Beach like IAN did? How is the clean up going? Watch and see as we drone the entire length of the beach. Look at the water standing at the Catholic Church Property. Flooding under the doomed Strandview again!!

Seaweed dried out is the best natural fertilizer you can get. Is there any local compost making business that would take some? If they can use it obv. It's great on veg plots, take some, dry it out and crumble it on ya onions

Another idea: get a large water pump that can suck up dirty water and debris. Put a long hose on it and kayak it out as far as you can go and put an anchor on it, pump it out to sea. Fastest you deal with it, the better. Once it starts to break down, it'll be a sludgy smelly mess.

Wow & that was a CAT 1 hurricane lots of damage. I know in Domincan Republic & Cancun when we visit resorts they are raking up that seaweed daily its a big problem didn't use to be. Would be a hard choice to buy property now in beach areas these storms aren't going to end but understand once you live that lifestyle would be hard to leave its beautiful. Thanks for showing us after our cruise in Feb next year hope to stay in Florida for an extra week or 2.

I work for the largest dredging company in the USA, we do beach renourishment work. I can tell you right now and I called it before Ian, one hurricane like Ian and FMB would go into rapid decline. There is unfortunately no way to save it unless somebody comes up with a massive massive very expensive beach renourishment project that would add sand past the pier and about 15 ft high in depth with rows of dunes even higher to stop another storm surge of 18ft. Sea walls (research it yourselves) actually create and speed up erosion, so that is not the answer. You need millions of cubic yards of sand with dunes for the ocean to slowly pull back out. Anything other than that is the end of FMB I promise you. Sorry to sound so negative but I speak the truth. also, trucking in sand is a complete waste of money and traffic nightmare. Dredged sand compacts, dry sand does not and erodes faster.

Wow that's some interesting information. I live here on the island and everything you said impacts me directly. The island Real Estate values are climbing. Interesting the properties that are damaged are selling for more than they were before IAN and they were livable.

Sargassum is a big problem in the Gulf of Mexico we were in Cancun last year and Sargassum is a really big problem. With global warming and the rising temperatures of the Gulf of Mexico the storms are just going to get worse. This was just a tropical storm. Think if you get another hurricane even half the size of Ian it’s going to be another mess. The worst part is that the storm probably took out all the turtle nests up the whole west coast of Florida.

Wouldnt this be of some help in Florida? >>>The dolos, or dolosse in its plural form, is an oddly shaped concrete structure closely piled in its thousands to arm harbours, ports and shorelines from strong erosive ocean waves. The dolos was born out of necessity to better protect Port Elizabeth's Port from South Africa's rough eastern coastline.

That sounds like a good idea. We lost a lots of sand volume when IAN hit here on the beach's. Especially on the south end at Big Carlos pass.

I think we are on our 2nd round of building the berms. The mayor keeps spending millions to rebuild them and I just don't understand why they don't just build a small 3 ft wall. People could sit on it, it would keep the sand on the beach and keep the turtles on the beach. But no, this mayor will just kee[ speng money on sand that keeps getting washed away. It's ridiclous. MILLIONS wasted yet again!
