I was diagnosed with Paget's disease of the breast, a rare form of breast cancer, at age 48. My primary care diagnosed it as eczema but when it didn't clear up with cortisone cream, I went to a cancer care hospital because my mother had breast cancer twice. I decided to have bilateral mastectomies and I've been just fine since then.

How did I learn about my cancer diagnosis? Well, on November 1st 2021, I was helping a neighbor cut firewood from a freshly fallen fir tree. We were using a hydraulic wood splitter as the rounds were 2 feet long and about 30 inches in diameter. They were quite heavy. It was easier to move the splitter to the next round instead of trying to move the rounds to the splitter. While doing this, the splitter fell over on me. The impact was significant. It was quite painful and I was not able to walk. I was helped home and my wife drove me to the ER. While xraying my back (I did have a fracture in my lower back) a suspected tumor was located in my adominal area. I was told to contact an oncologist. However, prior to this accident, I had been experiencing discomfort in my abdominal area and severe constipation. I was eating Tums like candy. It didn't help. My wife kept telling me to see a doctor as I might have cancer. I thought she was being overly dramatic so, of course, I did not make an appointment. I also had occasional bouts of dry vomiting which I thought was due to low sugar levels as I also had diabetes. I called Seattle Cancer Care Alliance where scans revealed I had stage 3 Follicular Non-hodgin's lymphoma. I did "watch and wait" up to March 2022 but my symptoms got worse. I had eight rounds of chemotherapy and in July I was found to be in remission. My chemo was not easy. I have not experienced my symptoms since. I still have future scans and appointments with my oncologist. So, I guess my accident was a blessing in disguise. I would have never thought my symptoms could have been cancer. Who knew ? !!

Bethany you are a courageous, beautiful woman. My mother had a heart attack and scans showed she had kidney cancer. That was a blessing, they removed a kidney and was in remission. The following year a routine scan found cancer in her lymph nodes. She has had operations and is on medication. I just hope to God she can continue to live cancer free. My mother is very healthy and doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol yet cancer has no prejudice.

Thank you so much for your story. I had breast cancer in 2007. I finally found a breast cancer dr ( a lady) who takes me seriously and ordered an MRI and my insurance approved it. Bettany's story was so encouraging. I haven't had my scan yet but no matter what the outcome is I feel confident I can handle whatever comes my way. Thank you Bethany!!

Thank you. Wishing you all the best. It ‘s not only heartbreaking to hear about your journey with cancer but also heartbreaking that you have no proper health insurance in the US. Thank you for your positivity and joy despite everything! Have a happy and healthy new year. Love from Amsterdam ❤

The fact that a person eats a very healthy diet and exercises routinely does not mean they will not get cancer. It is true that people will change their ways after a cancer diagnosis, and it is also true that many factors can increase the possibility of getting cancer. But , unfortunately , cancer doesn’t discriminate. You are the perfect example. But not getting a mammogram shouldn’t have been an option. I wish you the best!

She did get one and she had to pay for it. It's easy to say something when you have money or insurance. When you have bills to pay and are living paycheck to paycheck the choices are not always so clear. It's a shame some people don't have insurance through work. I feel bad for her.

No, mammograms miss most tumors and over time they do cause cancer. I had a thermography years ago and the thetmographer was an ex radiologist . He told me mammograms is radiation and radiation on fat, which is your breast, will cause cancer

I have a retraction in the nipple, and mentioned it to my doctor before a wellness visit. She sent me for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. The mammogram showed nothing, but ultrasound found a .5 cm nodule. I had to wait 5 weeks for a biopsy, which is next Wednesday. I have watched lots of videos here, and I am assuming I have DCIS. It's very hard to wait, wondering what this next year will be like.

I had no symptoms and felt no lump in my breast. I was first diagnosed through routine mammogram done 1 year and 1 week after my previous one. This past January I was diagnosed with Stage IIa and was told it was a slow growing tumor. How did I get from clear mammogram to stage II (with 1 node involvement) in 1 year - all with a supposedly slow growing tumor? No family history and perfectly healthy all my life. I'm wondering if something was missed in my mammogram which was done a year before.

Mammos are pretty much useless if you have dense breasts. I always go straight for the ultrasound. When last year's US picked up a BI-RADS 4b mass, I did the mammo just to check all the boxes in my process. The mammo didn't pick up a thing. What a mammo can do is pick up microcalcifications, which MAY be an indicator for malignancy. But mammo is not my first line of prevention.

colorado is known as a high high level of radiation and cancer. My mother grew up there and got very early breast cancer. Radon is widely known for being a cancer causing source.

She was not born there. She moved there after her initial diagnosis and treatment. So stop trying to blame the environment. Stop victim blaming. Pay attention to her videos.

Lots of unnecessary surgery from lumps that would never become cancer
@nancybee250 Жыл бұрын
No! supposedly Only 2% of breast lumps are cancer. For nearly 2 years my 28 year old daughter was told her breast lump was just a cyst. 2 radiologist and a surgeon said she didnt need a biopsy. They were completely wrong and when she finally did get a biopsy she found out she now had advanced stage breast cancer. So if you are that 2% its a necessary procedue. A biopsy is the only was to diagnosis a cancerous tumor. Please don't discourage women from seeking a biopsy.
