I'm always amazed at how a guy with your experience and skill set is still rolling around in the gravel, rather than finding a way to build yourself a garage with a lift. Man, you deserve it.

he wants a big-ass building, but also: most of us here are rolling around under the car just the same.

Rolling around in the grass is much better. Just make sure that you have something solid underneath the car before lifting it (or it might just sink into the ground)! 🤣👍

Thanks for another great video. You do a fantastic job of getting the work clearly captured on video. I can't think of any of your videos where I felt like I could not see what you are doing. And you pretty much always say the wrench/socket size and the torque specifications and usually explain the difficulty and nuances of getting something done, like getting that crushed/bent control arm off and getting the new one in. I always look forward to the next MrSubaru1387 video. All that to say these are very useful videos and I learn from each and every one of them.

I am not a trained professional, but recently changed my rear struts. Putting a little upward tension on the inward bolt for removal first, swings the arm downward and lets the other bolts come out easier. Then reverse it to the inward last during install. Use a trans or bottle jack to push the inward back up.

Did Subaru change the torque specification for the lug nuts in the last few years? The owner's manual and my copy of the FSM for my '09 STI, calls for 100 N*m of torque on the lug nuts. I believe I heard you say 120 N*m in the video.
@MrSubaru13879 ай бұрын
I’ve always seen 120NM across the board on Subaru. Not sure.
@craigmoe53009 ай бұрын
@@MrSubaru1387 yeah I've owned and worked on Subarus (not professionally) since the mid 90's and everything I've read that's been published by SOA has said 100Nm. This includes FSMs going back to the 70's. So when you said 120Nm in the video it got me curious. The only reasons I can think of for an increase in the torque specification, is a chance in stud diameter, or stud material, resulting in a higher proof stress of the stud.

I love to pick your brain a bit. I had to replace all the driver side curtains bags sensors with the help of my uncle and his welder, but now it needs head gaskets. Please help! everyone I call wants to replace the engine all together because they say it’s aluminum and the heads most likely warped. Need someone in Tennessee or a little advise. Maybe I have some for you too who knows.

I guess Newton-meters makes sense if you're making vehicles that operate in environments that aren't consistently 1-g, but it's a little weird for cars, IMO. Yes, a pound is a measurement of weight, not mass, but that isn't all that relevant on the earth's surface lol -- or not enough to matter when it comes to torqueing bolts.

@MrSubaru13879 ай бұрын
Right, as I stated they have a crimp in them and are meant to be used once and discarded, but, loctite should chemically recreate that small locking function of the new fastener.
