Very Insightful and interesting, Whenever I hear about new discoveries I think back to the words of the book of mormon prophets. What they described when they were creating new cities, fits the archaeological description of what is being found today ♥️.

Mounds No. Maya Yes. The best-informed minds in the Church in 1829 - 1844 were unpersuaded by mound builder culture and enthusiastic about the potential Maya - Book of Mormon connection. Fascinating.

You need to watch the video "Book of Mormon Geography In North America - Wayne May". This is what the church teaches, it's what's taught at BYU. You can find this same information in Church History and The Joseph Smith Papers.

@@lauralynnyork5651 Greetings Lauralynn. I think you have things mixed up. Wayne May's ideas are not taught at BYU and the Church. In fact, the Church has approved certain organizations as resources for members, and Wayne May's organization is not on that list. The Church is neutral about Geography, and it's official stance is that it's unrevealed where it happened. Wayne May, on the other hand, believes it's doctrine that it happened in North America. I would beware of people who think their geography model is Church doctrine. The Church actually supports organizations that tend to favor Mesoamerica. Not because of doctrine, but simply for academic reasons. All these organizations acknowledge that we don't know where it happened for certain.

@UCa5dV3nPgkxjo0NQg52pStg In all sincerity I don't understand your point of view unless I'm not understanding fully your comment. To me in how I understood your reply that's like saying the Bible isn't historical but only spiritual. It, being the Bible and Book of Mormon are both. Neither are fictional but actual historical events giving us great spiritual insight into them allowing us to see the same in our own lives and God's modern day patern of blessing us in our historically present and every day events in our own lives in the here and now.

@@zandersturgill Thank you Zander, but I don't have things mixed up. They do teach the North America model now at BYU, but really it doesn't matter what is taught or what you believe. Is it really pertinent to our salvation? No. It's just interesting to know, but nothing that we as individuals or as a church need to stress over. The fact that the Savior came here to America and taught the people here His gospel is what's important, and we are blessed to have a record of what He taught while He was here. Instead of concentrating on where the Nephites lived, we should be concentrating on growing closer to the Savior. Time is short and His coming is just around the corner. Are you ready to meet Him?

The a Book of Mormon is TRUE ! I can feel the spirit it comes from its pages. A spirit of love, hope, forgiveness, a spirit of revelation and faith. I know this book testifies of Christ as my Redeemer. Evidences or where it happened so not determines the authenticity of it. One day we will know for sure meanwhile I should try to live according to its teachings.

Archaeologists are finding themselves starting all over again with the history of Mesoamerica with the latest discoveries using LiDAR. There is way more in the jungles from Honduras through the Yucatan than they had ever imagained.

Wonderful video and article. While the Lord hasn't revealed any locations (other than where Moroni eventually buried the gold plates) of the Book of Mormon, we can follow the examples of Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and others in exercising faith first, and then looking to the best external evidences second and having an open mind in examining all the proof that the Lord will reveal in His own due time. The ancient cities and locations in Mesoamerica fit well into the context of the Book of Mormon, especially the pre-classic Maya.

Have you ever heard of the Hopewell Indians? When you peel back the pre-Columbian history of the United States, you just might find the Book of Mormon! It is one of the most controversial books of our time and I know it is true You can watch Hidden In The Heartland on Amazon Prime

The Hopewell culture is pretty amazing to look at. However, they don't match the Book of Mormon that great. Archaeology has shown that Hopewell villages, during Book of Mormon times, were very small. Usually with populations just in the hundreds. Even the popular Cahokia mound wasn't around until about 1000 AD, way after Book of Mormon times...and even then, it's population was only in the tens of thousands. Whereas Mesoamerica had populations in the millions, during Book of Mormon times, and it can account for the wars mentioned in the Book of Mormon, with tens of thousands of deaths. I think the Hopewell are a neat culture, but when we look at this scientifically, only Mesoamerica matches the Book of Mormon, for now.

@@zandersturgill the Hopewell where one of the people to use metal tools and weapons. The Smithsonian dig on Mordecai Hopewell property yielded copper war axes and chain mail coat made of copper and Iron. Their timeline fits more with the book of Mormon (gone by 400AD) while the Myan does not. The Teotihuacan empire of Mexico is the only one that timeline is similar to the book of Mormon. However, they were probably the largest empire in the America's. Nephites where not the largest people or the largest empire if they where an empire. The Mayan have been estimated to be 10 to 20 million in size which seems too large for the Book of Mormon account. Mayan don't have any evidence of Semitic culture or architecture. Artifacts found in the heartland, language of native American and traditions of native Americans are relative to Semitic culture. Look at the los luna decolog site in New Mexico. Not only is this an abrievatated 10 commandments that was part of Hebrew culture the surrounding area is littered with Hebrew and Egyptian. One of the characters I found was used amongst the Mississippians of Cahokia and the hieroglyphs of native Americans in Ontario. I also seen the charter in old Egyptian scripts.

@@cdmbcgm Unfortunately many of the artifacts you paint as being Semitic in nature, such as the Los Lunas Decalogue Stone, have proven to be forgeries. Meanwhile, linguists have found that Uto-Aztecan languages actually trace a lot of their linguistic roots through Semitic languages such as Hebrew and Egyptian, both languages accounted for in Nephi's record. Also, there were more people than those who lived in Teotihuacan or the rule of Teotihuacan. The Pre-Classic Maya civilization dates well into Book of Mormon times and consisted of several hundred city-state peoples, so it is no surprise to consider the possibility that perhaps the Nephites lived independent of Teotihuacan. Others can likely tell more information about it who are qualified to do so, but it would be a huge oversimplification of history to suggest that only the Teotihuacan had any influence over ancient Mesoamerica.

@@cdmbcgm Greetings D David, Yes, the Hopewell used copper tools, and decorative items. However, the idea of metal weapons is not likely, because the artifacts are mostly tools or sacred objects...not armor for warfare. Even the breastplates are ceremonial. Copper among early Hopewell is neat, but it's not enough evidence, especially compared to the warefare weapons and breastplates and armor among the Maya, and the numbers in their army's, even if metal hasn't been discovered among early Maya yet. The Hopewell timeline does match, but that's not good enough evidence. There's lots of civilizations that have matching timelines. And in fact, the Maya timeline does match up, when you consider what archaeologists call the "Pre-Classic Maya". There's a difference between Pre-classic and Classic Maya that most scholars are aware of. So no, the Teotihuacan empire is NOT the only timeline that is similar to the book of Mormon. In fact, it's pretty late. It might be related to anything that happened after Christ's visit. But before Christ, they've discovered Maya populations in the millions. Most LDS scholars don't think the Maya were the Nephites. The Nephites were a small group close to the Maya. The Nephites were affected by Maya culture, such as polygamy, warfare, and more. As far as Semitic evidence, there is some evidence of Semitic language among the Maya. Just look up the research by linguist Brian Stubbs about Uto-Aztecan and the Book of Mormon. The Hebrew artifacts promoted by Heartland model leaders are usually hoaxes. The Newark Holy Stone, for example, has modern Hebrew on it. The Michigan Relics have been proven frauds, even by the Church itself. So Hebrew artifacts in the Heartland are not great evidences to me, and in fact, are pretty bad evidences that only hurt the credibility of Heartland leaders. It's fine to believe in a North American model. It's a shame Heartland leaders have twisted that model into hoaxes, and misinformation about ancient history, and somewhat extreme American political identity.

@@cdmbcgm Unfortunately all the supposed Semitic "discoveries" in the heartland (and in New Mexico) are frauds. Not a great way to build a scientific argument.

Read what Nephi said about the country where it took place. The book of Mormon tell it all. Its not meso America. Although some may have wandered down that way.

For a subject the Church leaders state has not been revealed I do not see the point of statements like "It's not Mesoamerica" Seeing that to find the things described and dating to the correct era, Mesoamerica has them in abundance including ancient literacy that is dated and corroborates Book of Mormon history very precisely.
@zandersturgill

Along with what Mark said, when I read what Nephi said about the location, I see more of Mesoamerica in it. For example, the Great Nation that Nephi mentions matches Spain's control over the Americas than it does England's control. The man crossing the many waters, who Nephi mentions, matches Christopher Columbus, who set foot only in Central America. I agree the Book of Mormon tells it all, but I think it tells more Mesoamerica than the United States. And as far as "wandering", since the Book of Mormon mentions more about migrations northward, it makes more sense that the United States was the land northward that many travelled to
