Hello from Canada. KZbin thought that I would like this, and I confirm that I am very pleased to hear this news. The mayor looks nice, too!

Parisians ditched their car already a while ago. Most people who transitioned to bike commuting were using public transport before and they did so to reduce their commute time and to avoid the crowded and smelly metro.

Parisians never ditched their car. They mostly never had one. Less than half of Paris’homes have a car. There is not nearly enough room to accommodate 1 car per household anyway.
@jackmajhand94632 жыл бұрын
@@xouxoful well... a lot of people in the western neighborhood (7, 9, 16, 17) do have a car but they are not ditching it. And you can tell when seeing the total lack of cycling lane there. For the rest, they have a car only if their commute is not feasible using the metro and cycling lanes won't solve that (I did it personally for a year)

To be precise, only 30% of Parisians have a car

Nice video and hats up to Paris for the fast development! Could the footage at 3:22 be from the train station in Göttingen (Germany)? So many things line up from my memories ^^ And it also has some nice bike paths through the city :D

€150m isn't even that much. In the UK we are spend £1bn+ on a few miles of dual carriageway

Paris still has a long way to go! There are definitely a lot of safety issues and discondinuous biking infrastructure. Plus construction often blocks of large parts of bike lanes and forces bikes to randomly join heavy traffic. Place de la Concorde is also shockingly dangerous for bikes.

Paris does lack green areas though. Compared to London , it has very few. Good that they have some bike lanes.

Tbf, in terms of big cities, not many can compete with London for green space.

Tbf whilst London has Hyde park and all that, Paris has alot more playareas and parks than London

Paris has Bois de Vincennes and Bois de Boulogne, which are forgotten

Paris has a lot of forest parks, they're just not in the city center. The problem is that the figures only take into account intramural Paris which is only 100km2. If we extend Paris to the size of London, that is to say 1500km2, that gives us a lot of green spaces: Bois de Boulogne, Bois de Vincennes, Parc des Sceaux, Forest of Sevres, etc. Of course, this only works if the two cities have the same number of inhabitants, which is the case here. Afterwards, I agree with you, the city center needs more greenery. But pay attention to nuance. If we take 100km2 in central London, there are very few parks as well.

One of the draw back to this increase in cycling interstructure is that it leaves out the older Parisian who no longer able to ride a two wheel bicycle; and it continue to do so unless there is an incurragement for the manufacturing of affordable electric assisted tadpoles tricycles.

To be clear here, the scooters of this type are a grunge-boy, girly-boy, hipster fad, and they are toys too. In fact scooters with this profile powered or not have always been toys. They don't take cars off the street, and they aren't real conveyances. I also think that they're a nuisance because adults ride them like children ride them. Like haphazardly. Bicycles are different, have always been different, and are very often serious conveyances.

Thanks for the video. Consider me a new subscriber (for that I am). Some advice, if I may: - Your pacing in speech is a bit hasty from time to time. Try slowing down a bit, leaving small pauses here and there. That makes it easier to listen to. - I like the "question --> answer" format. But it gets a bit shallow if you answer the question immediately with the very next sentence. I think it would work better if you give the reasons first, like: "question --> evidence (plus/minus anecdotes) --> conclusion". - White text on yellow background does not look very aesthetically pleasing. I like the orange/white/black combo from your logo and the thumbnail, why not use that throughout and make it your "corporate design"? It's a bit "Not Just Bikes"-y, sure, but if you bring in more of the black it's destinctive enough, I'd say. Just my two cents. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your channel grows rapidly from here on!

Thanks for the feedback - massively useful. And we definitely need to get more consistent with our formating. That said, Discerning Cyclist was launched (with an orange logo) 8 years before NotJustBikes, so it could be debated that THEY are actually a bit Discerning Cyclist-y 😉 In all seriousness though, much appreciated feedback!

This is a nice thing for COMMUTERS that travel at a slow to moderate speed but does nothing for cycling enthusiast that wants a place to train at high speeds. Can you do a video on what and where cycling athletes ride within the city?

Most of the bike infras in Paris are not mandatory (square sign) so you still might cycle in the « car » lane if you’re fast.
@spare94342 жыл бұрын
i imagine we cyclists are a tiny minority among bicycle users, so we are not important. we can happily use road along with car users.
@masterzero95612 жыл бұрын
If you wanna bike fast would you bike fast in the middle of the city?? This bike lanes are clearly just for getting to places and commuting, but im sure there are many many places in or around paris that are made specifically for people who enjoy racing or mountain bikes. Racing of any kind is not something that is done in a public stretr
