@AngerySnekАй бұрын
Which was a shame since a lot of the inaccurate things in the show didn't even add any entertainment value to the series regardless, like Rollo being Ragnar's brother, Lagertha's disappointing death that Ubbe and the others could have stopped, Harald Fairhair somehow being OLDER than Ragnar, Sigurd Snake Eye being slain by his brother throwing a tantrum, Aslaug being straight up evil, Ragnar being an opium addict and slaying Yidu because she wouldn't give him anymore of it (Idek what purpose she was supposed to serve in the show other than making Ragnar look like an asshole). Ubbe was a nobody who participated in the Great Heathen Army's invasion of England but he was featured more than Sigurd and Hvitserk who were both kings of Dublin but did barely anything of note in the show etc etc. Also, Bjorn leaving his daughter in the hands of his stepmom was an idiotic move and he didn't seem to care that much about her loss when he came back from raiding, certainly not enough to take his revenge on Aslaug

@@eriandhor i just gave you a bunch of examples of things that weren't and couldn't possibly be entertaining unless you have some kind of fetish for inaccuracies. How is Hvitserk converting to christianity over being burned at the stake out of reverence to his ancestors, entertaining? What part of Harald Fairhair being the brother of Halfdan the Black is entertaining? How does Æthelstan being Alfred the Great's father and not his grandson provide entertainment? All these and more were things that build a net negative for entertainment so their excuse that that's why the inaccuracies were done doesn't make any sense

Many of the kings of Sweden/Norway/Denmark of the accepted "Viking age" rose to power because of this, either forcing the conversion or rebellion against it. Harold Fairhair was a Christian proponent. Rollo accepted the faith in order to gain land, riches, and a wife, as well as a way to leave his home troubles behind only he never completely gave up his so called heathen ways.

I already knew this but it's always good to have channels about history that tell people what is plausible and what's not in movies and tv shows. Anyway people should be reasonable and understand that you can't learn history from tv shows movies or videogames because they are works of fiction made for entertainment and if they are not completely historically accurate it doesn't mean they are trash. Another thing people should understand more in my opinion is that simple violence doesn't leave any legacy Bjorn was a good ruler and that's why he left a good legacy like the sources say.

Thanks for stating out some facts! That show was actually good in the beginning. But after the content writer made it terrible when he decided to change what really happened in the history. For example, at the end of the season King Herald died without even having any child, then who was Eric Bloodaxe? And historically, Bjorn lived longer than Ivar, but in the show it clearly didn’t show it.

You should probably actually listen to his statements. The conclusions made are in direct relation to sources used. Just as with all ancient histories, most information is recorded well after the fact. I, personally, disagree with a few statements in this video. But partially this is due to my Norse and Scandinavian ancestry. While I also have Norman English ancestry, well recorded, this also traced back to Scandinavian roots. All of history can be seen as a guessing game, since we cannot be 100% sure of any written source. So, grain of salt, man. It's all possible.
