I would say both the republican and democrat parties are centrists. With the democrats just being more left-wing as yes they do have members calling for socialism. Those old terms make almost no sense in the modern world as its not like parties that are labeled right-wing these days are calling for an end of democracy or the return of a monarchy. Also whilst fascistic ideals can be considered right-wing the political practice in the past were all implemented against capitalism and pro-socialist like the nazis and fascists. "Mass wealth and power redistribution from the top to the bottom. For example, the Jews were considered right-wing capitalists that hoarded wealth and power. On the other side, Hitler did not have a big issue with German nobility. I believe it makes more sense putting those guys in auth center as they had a wide political taste that seems contradictory to what most people would simply call left or right-wing. During the early days of war Hitler was clearly labeled far-left thanks to his war buddy Stalin combined attack against Poland that views both Hitler and Stalin as far left a holes.

Blue for the big right-wing party and red for the big left-wing party is pretty much traditional in a lot of countries, particularly in the English and French speaking world. France, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc... It's always a little confusing to those of us from countries where that's the norm to see the colour scheme reversed in the US. I know it was a semi-arbitrary thing done by the networks but it's weird seeing the party that still rants about communism being a thing being well... red. It used to be "better dead than red".

The fact is that the government, like a highwayman, says to a man: Your money, or your life. And many, if not most, taxes are paid under the compulsion of that threat. The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the road side, and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets. But the robbery is none the less a robbery on that account; and it is far more dastardly and shameful. The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber. He has not acquired impudence enough to profess to be merely a “protector,” and that he takes men’s money against their will, merely to enable him to “protect” those infatuated travellers, who feel perfectly able to protect themselves, or do not appreciate his peculiar system of protection. He is too sensible a man to make such professions as these. Furthermore, having taken your money, he leaves you, as you wish him to do. He does not persist in following you on the road, against your will; assuming to be your rightful “sovereign,” on account of the “protection” he affords you. He does not keep “protecting” you, by commanding you to bow down and serve him; by requiring you to do this, and forbidding you to do that; by robbing you of more money as often as he finds it for his interest or pleasure to do so; and by branding you as a rebel, a traitor, and an enemy to your country, and shooting you down without mercy, if you dispute his authority, or resist his demands. He is too much of a gentleman to be guilty of such impostures, and insults, and villanies as these. In short, he does not, in addition to robbing you, attempt to make you either his dupe or his slave.

The only target audience I can imagine for this idea is people who have too much money, the irresistible drive to spend it on 'something', but lack the imagination to come up with something for themselves. In Denmark it gets even more confusing. The Venstre Party (= the Left Party) has Left in its name but is liberal-conservative (neoliberal) and is compared to most of the other partys now more on the right side of the political spectrum. This has historic reasons. The Party was founded back in 1870, back then there were only the agrarian Left Party (Venstre) and the aristocratic Right Party (Højre). Now there are 16 (!) @UncomfortableShoes3 жыл бұрын
I understand why people think that the middle is a sort of level headed perspective but it’s really depends on country. Furthermore, it’s still a stance about both social and economic politics. It’s not a safe calm perspective. For example, in America if you claim to be in the middle of Democrats and Republicans that means you are right wing. Nothing wrong with that, but that’s were you land between the two parties given their policies. Liberalism is supposed to be the middle but even that can lean right or left. Furthermore, there is also a north and south on the political spectrum that most never even consider. For example, conservatism and fascism are both right wing, communism and social Democrats are both left wing but they are very different. Fascism and communism both are very authoritarian while social Democrats and conservatism much less so. Again, middle isn’t an ideological high horse, if anything it’s historically for people who haven’t figured out much politically.

I prefer the biaxial chart taught in my university. 1 axis is Social and the 2nd axis is economic/fiscal. One direction along an axis from the center indicates a desire for more government control, while the opposite direction indicates a desire for less government control, or in simple terms each axis defines a spectrum of Freedom vs. Order. The advantage of this biaxial chart is that it neatly demarcates the common parties in the USA into their own quadrants, albeit generally (or did in the 1990s when I learned it). The quadrant desiring less government control in economic matters yet more government in social matters aligns with the Republican Party. Cater-Corner is the Democratic Party, which desires less government in social matters yet more government in economic matters. Libertarians are in the corner that desires less government in both economics and social matters. The remaining quadrant that desires government to exert more control over both social order and economic order represents Populism, even if there aren't any formal Populist parties at present. I prefer the chart I described above because I feel it's easier to use for placing a person, party, movement, etc, based on policy proposals (which can be done objectively) and less on identity (tribalism). This chart can also be used universally, without recalibrating for cultural contexts (The quadrants can be named, renamed or ignored and identified via polygonal subdivisions). Other charts seem more subjective with regards to what is considered authoritarian or totalitarian, which can be calculated with regards to freedom vs. order or by definition, but must be calculated and perceived off-chart. The potential downsides of the chart I describe above include not discriminating between moderatism and centrism, although this could perhaps be adapted by using lines or arrows for moderatism (indicating delta from proscribed policy to moderated policy). It does not descriminate between militancy in obtaining policy goals nor the desire for or willingness to abide by the rule of law. Perhaps a better chart could be constructed using a spider-web style chart, with an index/zero line between the innermost and outermost lines and with spokes for additional dimensions beyond Economics and Social culture.

A command economy is readily accepted by Fascism because of the element of government control as well as the individual interest being subordinated to the good of the nation (there are no individual interests in a Command Economy). Although many people confuse Marxism with Socialism. They are linked but Marxism is more political in nature (i.e. the Worker controls the government). In both Britan and Canada, these are the correct party colours, actually. also may apply to several other countries, although I don't know for sure. In any case, do remember it may apply to countries other than America.

Red is used to symbolize left-wing literally everywhere except the US. Blue or black symbolizes conservatives in most places.

Before I start, liberalism is centre, and conservativism is centre right! The way we are taught about the political spectrum in the International Marxist Tendency is as following, Ultra left----Marxism----Centrism----Left reformist----Right reformist----Liberalism----Conservatism----Nationalism----Fascism

Mussolini was a lifelong socialist before he became a fascist. He didn't think socialism went far enough. Which means he was an extremist going further left. How do you square putting a life long socialist who was a founder of fascism on the Right?

@Michael Rogers Collective or public ownership doesn't mean state ownership, it means either ownership of the people directly, not through a state but by the people themselves owning the MoP collectively or state ownership if the state is democratic. Wake up, the Billionaires own the Democrat-Communist-KKK-Antifa Party and Puppet Joe, cross reference George Soros buying local Prosecutor elections. They are working hard to convert the US of A into a clone of Communist China, a system by and for billionaires. Geoff Who is a cynic.

@@geofftimm2291 The "Ultra-rich" buy political favors. In deeply red states they usually will give more money to Republicans, expecting that they will win. Vice versa in deeply blue states. Often they bet on every horse in the race... Campaign finance reform is WAY overdue.
