The '62' Mets are still technically the worst Modern Baseball team. ChiSox 41-121(.253 win%) vs Mets 40-120 (.250 win%). These ChiSox had a higher winning percentage than those Mets did. There's also a team from 1899 that went 20-134 (.130 win%).

From what I researched, MODERN BASEBALL is deined as 1901 to present day. The ' 62' Mets finished with a lower winning percentage of .250 to ChiSox .253 win%.

MLB went to 162 games in 1961 I think. Mets, for some reason, played 160 games in '62 and went 40-120. So I guess you're both right and wrong? Lol Idk why they didn't play the last two games.

Terrible offense and bullpen. Also the wheels falling off under Reinsdorf the same way the Oakland Raiders went to pieces after their SB loss to Tampa: Al Davis was well-past his time but he kept running things into the ground. It isn't just that Chicago's hit .220 as a team (remember that includes players who were dealt like Pham and his .266 average) but they're dead-last in HR's and XB hits as well as in walks. There were simply no base-runners for Vaughn/Benintendi to drive in when they did hit an occasional dinger and that's why the Sox have scored 10 or more runs just twice. 472 RBI and next-worst is Tampa at more than 80 ahead. That is the puniest offense I've ever heard of. And then there's the fact they have 9 triples total and just 88 SB's (caught stealing 33 times) while Boston is next-worst at 42 CS but 144 stolen bases. Chicago simply has NO management from the top-down. This was inevitable and there's little chance for improvement next year as they plan to slash payroll (how?) and Crochet likely will be dealt for engine parts for that Sopwith Camel they charter.

Bad rebuilding job, bad coaching at,all levels, and a bad group of players. It all adds up to a terrible team. They have a baron farm system. Trading for young players only works if your system has good instruction. This whole thing is a disaster! What free agent will want to come there? One needing a one year contract to go somewhere else the next year?

Let me give you just a little bit of insider…. A lot of this failure belongs to LaRusso. He would go into the clubhouse and undermine everything that the coaches were teaching. His constant interference, and the fact that he was A snitch who went back to Jerry with his perspective, created an atmosphere that was not conducive to redevelopment. He needs to be banned from the clubhouse and from the field and from traveling with the team and from anything else having to do with the White Sox.

Too bad none of the White Sox want to have a mock celebration, ala the 2017 Cleveland Browns. On the other hand, if the White Sox find a patient manager AND general manager combo, maybe they can take solace in the Detroit Tigers former American League record of 119 losses in 2003 to a World Series runner-up finish in 2006. The Pale Hose need to acquire more offense in free agency and trades plus convince their stingy owner to open his wallet but anything is possible. Finally, like many fans, I would have thought that a better candidate for the ultimate ineptitude would be the A's due to their notorious owner, but that's another story.
