Humans are advanced enough to even realize or think of the idea of being cruel when it comes to getting food. When a human does something that they are well informed of knowing will harm a creature needlessly, then I get feeling shame or being upset at our species. Most of the time though, harm caused is due to ignorance. Very few people actively seek to cause more harm than needed to survive. And scientifically speaking, we know that most creatures taste better when they died relaxed and content because adrenaline doesn't taste that good and tenses the muscles. I do agree that we have a responsibility due to our evolved brain and empathetic capacity to always be as humane as possible when we need to kill anything for food, and with new information, always rectify as best we can to reduce any suffering incurred, as with most seafood that is now killed swiftly before being boiled.

I'm surprised your Irish taste buds were able to handle the crawfish, Jack. I've lived in Louisiana for twenty years and I have NEVER been able to bring myself to eat them because of the sheer amount of spice they're cooked with, and I only came here from the East Coast! I'm not exaggerating, every time someone has a crawfish boil I can smell it a half a mile away. That stuff is STRONG.

It's the seasoning that's used on them. I don't know if it's the ingredients themselves or the quantity used, but just the scent of it hits my sinuses like fire.

It really depends on who cooks them if there super spicy or just a little spicy bigger resturaunts use less spice unless crawfish are a specialty thing there and some people just dont like spicy so they dont boil spicy
