This warmed my heart so much. Ugh. Love yall. My motto growing up was “weird is better than boring” because I’ve always been a bit different. Also I grew up watching all the HGTV but it felt almost unattainable back then (before they had the -on a budget - shows, and even then those often didn’t feel authentic) now this is the main design show I watch and I just love that you have made design so approachable and relatable. Idk why but when you made your dining table into a coffee table stands out. You aren’t afraid to say hey this was cool but the functionality wasn’t there. I think I loved that you could admit to what didn’t work for you. You take “mistakes” as part of the process. That it doesn’t have to perfect first try. You exude confidence without ego. The realization that you were on a content hamster wheel was key. I’ve noticed that the creators I have followed here on KZbin the longest have retained their audience and the quality and authenticity of their content because they, too, realized this reality: that if they didn’t translate the audience into a customer, their livelihood was too tenuous and they would end up being enslaved by audience capture which would be the death of their creativity. They all managed to find a way to create a business, a product, that they could offer. But also, importantly, those products, like the ones I see you coming out with, are true to who they are and not simply slapping their names on some generic offering. Some of the products are not even physical objects, but skills they can teach, which is fantastic. The downstream effect being that the content they do put out on KZbin really comes from the heart, is really something they want to share with the world and not simply, “well, this is what’s trending so I’d better put my version out there” or “this is the kind of video that always does well, so even though I’m dead inside, I’ll put out yet another one ….”. There are a lot of channels out there doing some version of DIY/renovation … the reason your audience is here and is loyal is because it translates to us that you have your own voice, your own vision, your own aesthetic and that you have a genuine passion to inspire others to step out into the creative unknown. You’re not a carbon copy of something that has been successful elsewhere. It’s great that you’re sharing this with us. It’s valuable insight and background information. ❤
