I am also amazed, this was a shortfall on engineering. Neither Chad or I are engineers so I'm sure there are things we aren't thinking of but that's why I rely heavily on the manufacturer to build it durable first.

@@AZExpert I find it hard to believe an engineer would sign off on that roof prior to you fixing it. An engineer can recommend the best way to properly build it, obvious to me those in power are not being due diligent in consulting an engineer with their cuts. when steel touches aluminum that creates a molecular reaction. this causes both metals to detierioare at extremely fast rate. I would put plastic or rubber strips between and oversize the holes in the aluminum so the screws could pass through without touching and anchor in the wood that would make a near bullet proof structure.
@AZExpert3 жыл бұрын
Dis-similar metal can be an issue for sure, but I also see how these are made. All the screws into the aluminum are steel anyway. Water is the big concern for me

@AZExpert3 жыл бұрын
The latch was broken. In an emergency, you should be able to break the plastic latch holding a sliding window locked. If trying to slide the window doesn't work, you'd have to use a thin putty knife to break it. Of course only in emergency and be careful

Out of curiosity are you going to put screws from inside into those supports to hold the ceiling up ?
@AZExpert3 жыл бұрын
We had thought about it, but the screws would have to compress 3 inches of foam so I doubt they would do much. The A/C and vents clamp the ceiling to the roof so they will help a great deal too.

The time Chad was bouncing on top was the supporting in the inside still up ?

not really. Though it's an expensive repair to be sure, the RV had no value with a collasped roof.

So all Winnebagos need to be brought in for this roof upgrade at what age?
@AZExpert3 жыл бұрын
No, this is a unique roof build on just some Winnebagos. It is likely only an issue on long Class "C" Minnie Winne's with a flat roof. The shorter Minnie Winnie's don't have unsupported spans that will sag like the long ones.
@stea24943 жыл бұрын

Not planning to compete with you. However just curious what's it take to be an RV Tech? I have considered at times maybe doing it mobile. I happen to hold a Master Plumbing, Master Mechanical and Master Electrical License. I have twenty years experience in those trades. My master plumbing is a certification that includes gas piping, both LP and Natural Gas. My Master Mechanical which is HVAC certifies for gas too. I understand how RV furnaces, water heaters, air conditioners etc work. Most everything I have repaired on mine seems like common sense for the most part. I have also done extensive remodeling on both commercial and residential projects. Have considered doing it as either a part time thing, or maybe in the future doing it while traveling and living in RV full time someday. I understand if you don't want to answer, just figured you'd be a good person to ask. Thanks and really enjoy your videos. You do a lot of repairs I would not want to tackle. Rebuilding bodies, etc.

Sounds like you already are a RV tech. The industry needs good people like you. If it's interests you I'd get with a good dealer and start. It will take about 6 months to get a good understanding of where things are laid out and the basics of RVs

These may be more time consuming than you like but I use these for securing plywood down and flushing the screws...you use the flush drill head then come back and put the screw in...larger screw head span (9/16") for better plywood holding...screws come in metal and wood thread...a just in case you ever need something like this. GREAT for squeaky floors and what not...www.fastcap.com/product/spade-flush-mount-drill-bit-system www.fastcap.com/product/powerhead-metal-screws

All RVs should have at least half inch plywood on the roof but no less than quarter because you know as well as anybody your worst problem or with Rv roofs of course manufactures know that that’s why they build the roofs so cheaply so you’ll be back for a new RV or roof replacement it may cut your job down at least 50% though
