@Joe Dick they have a pride month to celebrate how far they've comeand the human rights they've gained.because people who like to shove their lifestyle down others throats disnt like who those people were and so they were treated as sub human. Pride month is the 1 month, out of THE WHOLE YEAR where LGBTQ+ people can celebrate who they are. Straight people have had straight pride since the dawn of humanity.stfu

I come from an extremely Latinx family. So when I was starting to realize I was gay, I didn't tell my parents for quite some time since they're Latinx and Catholic. I told my big brother Tomas first because he's my brother and I knew he'd still love me no matter what. When the time came and I had the strength to tell them, they thankfully took it well. My dad is a huge Ricky Martin fan, so that helped a lot. He was the one I was the most worried about. When same-sex marriage became legal here in PR he called me and was super happy that I could marry the man of my dreams. He sounded more excited than I was. Since then, we now have the tradition of going to Pride together with Tomas. 🏳️‍🌈🇵🇷

I have to say, I know this is what I will say to my child. I would love to be able to just be on board, supportive, have nothing against it but I wouldn’t be honest to myself or, more importantly, my child. So that is why I would tell my child that no matter what, “I love them more than my own ignorance to it.” ❤️ I say this with love. Please don’t come at me. Edited one year later to add: Every day I do my best to keep an open mind and inform myself more about LGBTQ+ because one day, if my child comes to me and lets me know that they are a part of this community of people, I don't actually want to say, "I love you more than my own ignorance to it." even though I will never know what people in the community go through, I want to be as

I can relate. I was never homophobic, cause I was brought up in a kinda accepting family, but it used to be like “it’s ok that he’s gay, but thank god you’re not”. So when I realized I was bisexual, at 13, I struggle so fucking much to accept myself and I only did accept it at 16 (almost 17, and about to enter uni). I started coming out to my friends, more friends started coming out and I started advocating for the LGBT+ community (at the time celebs like Miley Cyrus and Cara Delevigne started coming out and bringing the topic up). I’d advocate at home too, started changing my parents mind about stuff and hinting, until I came out at 19 and all was ok :3. I can’t tell you how much the community has helped me accept the fact that I’m a big ‘ol bi girl, who likes boys and girls, and there’s nothing wrong or invalid about it.

My best friend is blatantly homophobic and though I know he loves me, it hurts how he talks about "my people" Seeing eugenes coming out video has helped me in ways I can't describe. So. Dear Eugene. You probably won't read this. But still. Hey. Thank you. I'm not good with emotions but thank you. I'm 16 and you're now on my list of lgbtq heroes. So from the bottom of my purple heart. Thank you. High school definitely keeps it challenging, but your people and your community are out there! Give yourself time and you will meet people who not only accept you as you are, but also see it all as normal and are unfazed by it. As we grow into adults we change a lot so your friend's mindset may change. Or it may not. But your friend is unapologetically themself as a hater, you can learn to unapologetically be yourself as well! It might push people away first but you'll also meet people that truly accept you for you. And those are the people you wanna keep around

These are highkey the types of reactions we need. All of the "Oh, it's okay I'll love you no matter what" just feels superficial and it just reminds me that we live in a society in which people have to reiterate that they don't suddenly hate me. Like, literally just pretending that they didn't say anything that important (except for maybe like a quick "oh cool") helps reiterate that it doesn't change your view or opinion of them.

I felt the emotion he must've felt and gone through coming out and it was very eye-opening to me as someone who is not part of the LGBT + community, but have family members who are. I love my family no matter what, and I can definitely say it does make a difference when people can be themselves, like whatever they like, and overall be happy :) Thanks Eugene and Hannah!

I made my friends guess also! It was so hard to say the actual word back in the 2000's. Gay was associated with stupid/bad things. I can't imagine having all these fans and having tell them also. You are both amazing.

I came out about 3 years ago and I also still can't really say the word "gay" (in my language), so there's something oddly assuring about seeing a grownup also having a hard time with it (I'm 17). Eugene shouldn't feel bad for feeling like that, representing your hardships and true feeling can also be impactful no matter how messed up you think you are.

This is really eye opening. I knew that a lot of cultures have negative views on being gay but to not even have a non derogatory word is awful. It takes a brave and remarkable person to be open about being gay in these cultures. I know it’s hard enough even living in countries that are apparently ‘accepting’. Often feels like we are making progress on this issue and then there are other days it feels like we have such a long way to go.
@yonyon5432
@yonyon5432 5 жыл бұрын
@@jamierose5513 I don't think it's very diferent from English, the make difference being that other languages don't really have a word like "queer", which also used to be and insult as far as I know. After all in most cultures being gay is not a "good" thing to say the least, so any words that are used to describe being gay are also perceived as an insult. My language has so many disgusting names for gay people (that I will not translate here...), that the only non derogatory word you can use is "gay", because it's from English and didn't have enough time to become an insult.

Super super proud of Eugene for coming out and also for making such an absolutely BEAUTIFUL work of art that is so so relatable and touching. It’s okay to not come out until you’re in your adult years. Everyone has a different story, and yours is for sure a complicated one. I didn’t officially come out as bi until I was 21. I knew I was bi when I was in 7th grade, and even came out as “bicurious” then, but was treated differently by friends so I pushed that so far back in the closet that I didn’t even think about it again. I forced myself to be in relationships with other men that I didn’t like romantically to try to make myself “normal”. I was always always always looking for a man to “fix” me from being asexual and generally aromantic too. But then around HS I stopped trying to date altogether, which oddly made people want to push me into relationships with guys more?? When I was 19 I came out as asexual, and then when I was 21 I feel in love with a girl and realized I was bi. But now the struggle is, I’m in a long-term relationship with a man, and I constantly struggle with feeling not queer enough to be in queer spaces. Especially since I’m super high-femme and therefore appear “straight.” Queerness is always a struggle, ya’ll. Coming out DEFINITELY isn’t the endgame, it’s just the beginning.
