Discover is one of the largest credit card issuers in the U.S. and consistently tops a customer satisfaction survey. However, in the past five years the stock has underperformed that of the S&P 500 and competitors.

@@josephbroseph1284 I was an authorized user on my mom’s account but I wanted to start building my own credit history because that helps you to be able to rent an apartment or get a mortgage. They always do a credit check. I still need to be an authorized user on my mom’s account for certain things but I love that Discover gave me a shot after I tried to get a credit card from my bank but I was declined despite having two part time jobs and an income and being 20 years old.

@@jasonJones-ks5co I had a couple of questions so I called their customer service last night. It was amazing. I always dread calling my bank’s customer service (Chase) because they’re in flipping India. It’s never a good experience. You would think a bank that makes 50 billion in profits every year would invest in U.S.A. based customer service. It’s a joke.

Got their secured card back when I was rebuilding credit, just shy if two years later (way higher credit scores now), they refunded my deposit, transitioned the card to unsecured and raised the limit. Pro Tip: To help jump start your child's credit profile, add them to you credit card accounts when they are 15-16 years old. Discover is one that starts reporting as early as 15 and by the time they graduate, they will have 2-3 years of history on their credit profile. This will help them financially when they move out and start their new life on their own.

@Mark Odessy How is that horrible advise? Your parents can get you a checking account and show you responsibility, but mine was to simply help them jump start their credit without them actually having access to it since it’s still technically your account. Or if you trust them enough, get a card that lets you control the amount they spend and teach off that. Your situation will very widely from everyone else’s.

I never like to call my bank’s customer service agents because the people on the phone always have a very thick accent because their call centers are in India. Indian salaries are much lower than American salaries. That’s why they do it there rather than in America. Great example of platform wars and how new upstarts can overcome barriers to entry and gain market share through better serving a particular segment. The note at the end is right on point, Discover now needs to innovate if they want to continue to grow. I think an area one of these card network/issuers should move into is developing cashierless technology to rival Amazon Go. The way things are set to play out currently, Amazon is going to wedge their way into taking a chunk out of card network providers processing fees as the cashierless tech becomes more widespread. 🤔

Discover is truly a fantastic company that values its customer, and treats them with dignity. I am international in the US, and opened a savings acc w/ BoFA. A month into my acc, I asked BoFA for a credit card to start my score but they instead denied, and very condescendingly offered me a Secured Card, and the rep further told me that I might not get a CC because I’m new, and this is your only option. I applied to Discover, and received double the credit line, and am very happy with them now.

Discover is one of the best companies for the average, everyday consumer. Cash back, no fancy rewards system to keep up with. Just use your card then ta-da you get cash. I don't even use my cap1 card because of the lack of rewards and the lack of increased credit lines. Discover makes sense for EVERYONE I know.

My first and favorite credit card. I got my first credit card my freshman year of college and it had a $500 credit limit. It was enough to have fun but not enough to hang myself. Over the years, I’ve grown my credit limit and credit score with them. They also let you view your FICO credit score without charge and their website is easy to navigate. I’ve never used their app but I get the feeling it would be just as user friendly. Never had an issue with them. I have two other credit cards but this one is truly my favorite.

I've had a Discover card for almost 20 years but up until the last 10years or so it was unusable. Even big stores like Home Depot didn't accept it...and in Puerto Rico, there was only one store that would take it, Wal-Mart, which I rarely visited.

Love my two discover cards. First year 0% APR and cash back match. They gave me my highest limit, and have given me credit line increases multiple times. Even if you call in after your 0% APR expires you can usually get them to give you another 12 months if you say you’re planning a big purchase soon and couldn’t decide which card to use. Works every time. Lol

Great documentary that highlights a lot of points about modern society. I am surprised to hear that consumer debt on the decline. I thought it was on the rise but maybe times are a changing. Banks don't have the pull they used to have with consumers. Time for them to start an advertising campaign and win us over. ;)

My parents have a Discover account dating back to 1987. They've always been very happy with it. I'm their least favorite type of customer. Always pay in full and only purchase what's in the 5% back category. I do the same with a Chase Freedom. The rest goes onto an AMEX Platinum. I like my Platinum and it's travel benefits, but 5% cash back is 5% cash back.

Love the customer service. Native English speaker with understandable accent. Polite, patient, professional personel, get things done, do not need to stay on hold or being transferred. Got the card twenty years ago in college, I called them on due date, they waived my first late fee because I was not able to get hold of a computer to pay, I was touched. Was so excited when the designs were out. Very slick and stylish. It may not be accepted by a random merchant once a long while, it's ok. Website is easy to use. Have not had a fraud transaction. Always pay in full, and built my credit score. Discover was a companion of mine growing into adulthood. Thanks Discover.

Discover was my first credit card while in college. It was really the only student card/“beginner card” that offered any perks - cash back plus $20 every year for good grades all for no fees. Also, they had a thing where if you refer a friend you each got $50! Never experienced any negatives with Discover. Although I have sort of moved on to better cards now, I have to say I really appreciate them for building my credit and offering rewards for a newbie when most other companies didn’t.
