For me, the most surprising part is not necessarily feeling good but the willingness to take risks, take decisions and make changes. 4:11 - 4:28 this seems like quite an easy riddle to solve. @@NotAnti2 hi! in my case, there have been no problems so far, really only benefits from the medication. i still take them everyday but my dose was halved recently. but of course we probably have drastically different cases and our response to the medicine would also be different. again, i don't think and feel i experienced negative effects from the medicine. while antidepressant dependence could be a concern, i personally haven't faced the problem, but i also think i really wouldn't as long as i abide by my psychiatrist's instructions. what i learned, however, is that antipdepressants really are only a part of "getting better." factors like lifestyle, mentality, and your surrounding environment are just as important. with that, i just wanna emphasize that antidepressants did help me, but i could still not improve when i still have problems with those other factors. what i do suggest is for you to visit a health professional and when you've received the proper medications and encounter any problems with it, you just have to tell them and they will make necessary adjustments. in my case, all visits had been a share of responses to the medication and adjustments in return.
@garrettwidner69152 жыл бұрын
It's not just psychotherapy and antidepressants, there are 3 methods for combatting depression and any doctor that doesn't explore the 3rd option is falling short. Lifestyle is the 3rd factor. If you're working 80 hours a week, living paycheck to paycheck, etc, you can't be happy. Some of this is beyond our control but you can't expect results if you give someone medication and therapy when they're in an impossible life situation.

Mood disorders are hard to regulate. It’s not something you just cure. I would say we aren’t that advanced. Unfortunately like he said lots of people don’t respond to medicines, but there is still a lot of doctors who just want to throw medicine at the problem and not address other issues that could contribute. (Socioeconomic status, level of support groups, behavioral, nutrition, other disorders, etc.) I was on prozac as a teen for many years. It was seen as a catch all at the time. Now I see a psychiatrist and take different meds that are a little more helpful for me. But let me tell you there is SOOO much that contributes to depression and anxiety. (Vitamin D, anemia, thyroid issues, people around you, exercise, thought process, trauma, other mental disorders like ADHD, anorexia etc,) A lot of times it is a side effect of something else going on. 🤷🏼♀️ Mood is hard to quantify. So it’s also harder to study. Harder to treat. Not everyone experiences depression the same way. There isn’t an easy way to “cure” depression. It’s mostly about improving your level of daily functioning.

I was on Sertraline and Fluoxetine therapies to treat depression but none of them helped me recover. On the other hand, I had severe side effects such as weight gain, headaches, insomnia and nearly developing diabetes. Therefore, it was not worthy taking them. Unfortunately, depression is more complex and just antidepressants aren’t the answer to the problem. If a patient suffers from unresolved trauma, medicine won’t really help. That’s why talking therapy with a psychologist is mandatory.

I'm on an ongoing psychiatric / psychological treatment for burnout. The anti anxiety medication I have also happen to be anti depressive. Around two weeks ago I tried to end my life - I had no prior suicidal thoughts in my life and I think this was solely a result from the medication. I took the decision to stop taking these medicines without consulting my psychiatrist / psychologist a day after because I was afraid of it. It was the worst decision in my life... I started to have suicidal thoughts everyday, I felt like I was drunk most of the time, rashes on my abdomen appeared and I simply couldn't sleep. The doctors then said that I should take the medicine as soon as possible and then I did... I'm on a license of 15 days from my job and I'm gradually getting better. The suicidal thoughts stopped and the rashes are gone. It's honestly terrifying how a medication that affects your brain can affect your body and your life.

There is actually a really plausible theory explaining why antidepressants work, especially SSRI. Higher levels of serotonin are linked with increase in hippocampic cortisol receptors. When cortisol molecules bind to these receptors, an inhibition of CRH (corticotropin-releasing hormone) occurs. That inhibition of CRH is then at the source of lower cortisol levels, meaning a reduction of stress in an individual.

I've been taking SSRIs for over a month and they work. I live in a toxic household so I don't have the support I need. My meds stabilize my mood. I can't feel the extreme of any emotion. I am an artist so my imagination has also decreased. I haven't had a mental breakdown or the shooting chest pains(anxiety) since. This is not something I'd do long term but until I can get out of here, these are a lifesaver.

I thought this video was going to explain why on antidepressants some ppl including myself feel dull. It’ll take away the sadness but to me it seems to take away my other emotions too.

I remember a meta analysis study they shown us at college, that compared long term effectiveness of depression therapies. The data showed that the best result was with combination of medicines and psychotherapy, while medicines alone had little long term effect and psychotherapy alone had a good long term too. That said the study showed only an aggregated result and it's 100% possible that some patients don't respond well to psychotherapy and drugs are, for them, the only way out of depression

I feel like depression effects the most intelligent of people. People who look past the distractions, people who understand the concept of life and those who accept it's not perfect. Technology is one way to sidetrack people, but also something that expands knowledge; which is why, possibly, more screentime = higher rates of mental health issues? Obviously depression is something much more complex than that, however, I feel as if people can get too trapped in their head, especially when no one is intelligent enough to understand their thoughts and feelings.

I was going through difficult times, friends left for college without me, my entrepreneurial career wasn't going well and I felt that I was a failure because I was held back. I started taking Ritalin 20mg. The pills gave me motivation and focus. No matter what I went through my brain kept on giving me hope

Unboxing, Develop your mental muscles. Detox your mind. Reduce negative thoughts. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly they will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation-exhalation is not needed. Anytime of the day or night before sleep sit or lie down and observe your breath. Be as still as possible as it reduces negative thoughts. Make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor

I find studying the brain's chemical ratios and balances so interesting. It's so amazing we can give people special amounts and kinds of medication to balance out the brain.

*Do a video on antipsychotics please* My psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel to me alongside Prozac to manage my social anxiety. He never mentioned the risks with antipsychotics to me. I was shocked to learn how dangerous they can be, even with short-term use
