Here in Brisbane we learn multiple routes at a time. We don't stick to the same route all day. The driver learning is also driving. The trainer is standing beside the driver directing him/her.

Worked at the brook V and, bush S plus Westbourne Park and briefly armchair at Brentford now metroline i learned these at these garages ,here goes and some of these routes no longer run ,220,283,72,94,N9,9,609,209,9A,H40,H91,E2,E8,328,23,237,391,190,27,267,207(never stayed long)phew but it’s surprising how it stays in your head although if you go multiple routes in the same area you can almost go down the wrong road but not all ways the answer to that is thank goodness I’m resting tomorrow 😊,all the best mate 😊😊

Round here out in the sticks in rural southern Scotland, new drivers often don't remember complicated routes (although they are shown them by other drivers first), so the passengers have to remind them with helpful phrases like 'you should have turned right just then' and 'we don't go this way on a Thursday'. But my local bus route has four alternative routes depending on the time of day and day of the week, so it's the passengers that are the experts, and are not backwards at coming forward with helpful advice to drivers.

Great that we can ask passengers for help, sometimes controllers take too long to get back to you

Ive had help from passengers a few times, recently I went out on a route i hadnt done for a long time, came across an unexpected diversion in a place that was virtually impossible for me to pull over and contact control, I shouted down the bus for anyone who got this route regular and a very helpful lad came down and helped me get back on route, sometimes you just have to improvise and adapt its a fun job sometimes haha

Back in the 70's we were given just one run over the Greenline routes.... so in my case, taking notes was very necessary.... but the occasional driver did head off in the wrong direction.

Yes I headed to bethel green on the 47s, I learned the route but then drove it about 2 months later lol

No jerk on automatic buses if you use your pedals properly , lean to know when gears about to change and release throttle to help the gear engage before accelerating away . Nothing to driving buses these days compared to the crash box and no power steering days .
@thatbusdriverguy4182 Жыл бұрын
I haven’t driven electric bus, but I would say that fact you have to do that shows their is a problem with the vehicle. If I had to do that with my automatic car I would be straight back to the dealers. Gears and throttle suppose to work smoothly without having to take your foot off. If all the buses are like that then it’s a bigger issue.. but if that what you have to do to make it smooth so be it, I would definitely but on BCR card..

You could probably use your own car to remember routes

Problem with that is a lot of Places have bus gates, where a car cannot go beyond a point. Personally I remember by driving it, in service with a mentor.

I created Q cards with steps in the route and kept them somewhere in the cab i could see them if needed, also going through glasgow city centre we have TRC rules so only certain stops to be serviced in the city so kept them noted, thankfully im only on 3 different routes totaling 1, 2 and 3 hour round trips so not a lot to learn

When our drivers have papers to fill in papers in I think is how the traffic is line as road works may be late but then some have diversion but the thing is how the hell do they get there at the time is is if a driver has driven another one will they know that new route!!?😮😊😊

Easy you come in a couple of hours early paid of course. Do a rounder with another driver and then do a shift on that route. Well that's how it was for me at Dagenham and Northumberland Park.
