I always figured they worked by removing the fibers in the paper. I know I've had to start more than one algebra homework assignment because of holes in my paper. You could always tell which parts of which problems gave me the most trouble because the parts that weren't a hole would be significantly thinner than the rest of the paper. Then again, maybe I just pressed too hard when I erased.

+Don Kehr Yeah, you can definitely rub away bits of the paper fiber along with the pencil marks. Cheaper erasers (ones that contain more abrasive stuff other than just pure rubber) can be especially rough on paper. /Lauren

Way back in the 1960s, a classmate had a transparent green eraser that had a shiny surface. He could even stick it to the underside of the school desk. I have yet to find an eraser like that.

There's 3 standard type of erasers the white ones which is usually rectangle shaped the pink ones with points on its small side and those ones you see on the back of a wood pencils that are really cheap extremely light pink color and don't get rid of the led at all just make a black mark on the paper

You're thinking about erasing your parents from ever existing, which, in that case, yea, you probably wouldn't be born because if they never existed, ya know. But if you chose the other option, just to erase your parents from the world, that'd be the same as killing them. You're still born after you do it, so it wouldn't matter what happens to your parents in the present time.

Some pens lay their ink lightly on the surface of the paper, and others have ink that sticks to the paper more, or soaks into the paper more.

***** Erasable pens use ink that's mixed with rubber cement. The mix will stay soft and sticky for a few hours after you write with it. During that time, an eraser can rub loose and pick up the ink!
