Hi Thank you for all you videos, quite helpfull. Do laminate floors take long to heat up compared to porcelain tiles? Both floors are concreted floors just the coverings are different.

It is not really the speed at which they heat up, but more tiles will get the heat through better. So, you will get more useful heat/ the system will be more efficient with tiles.

On ground screed floor there will be one manafold located on ground floor. Using heat sprader plate method on 1st floor (timber floor board on joist) do i need another manafold on 1st floor. Can one ground floor manafold supply under floor heating water to both level from same heat source gas boiler. Thanks.

We would always recommend where you have different thermal masses you run different manifolds as HEPs will heat up far quicker than screed but screed runs at a lower temperature.

Would it be best to use cement boards or chipboard to top a plate wet UFH system that’s having tiles on top for a 1st floor kitchen? Thanks

It does come down the build height you have and the centres of the pipe. But normally the dry Gypsum system tends to give a higher output. But this may not be a case in all jobs. Call us to go through your job in more detail.

I’m interested in buying a house in Europe that has cobblestone on the ground floor, that was left in by the builders because it’s from 1887. Only problem is it’s a fairly big open space ground floor (1750sqft) with no walls between the living, dining and kitchen areas. Is it possible to take out the cobblestone and lay floor heating below it? Or do have to lay heating over it and eventually cover the cobblestone with a different type of flooring. We are torn because cobblestone is quite thick so we are unsure about the effectiveness of heat under it. And we will be disappointed if we have to cover a beautiful historical floor from 1887. But if it’s not possible, we understand we have to do it.

No, most screeds and concrete are ok over underfloor heating systems. Just ensure you use a rounded aggregate. and ideally no deeper than 100mm
