so i have songs that got released as singles on a label that has since folded. They were distributed by Warner Music. now, i'd like to include those songs on an upcoming EP, i own the masters and publishing in full, but even trying to have a "private playlist" in Soundcloud triggers the automated system for copyright protection, it won't let me upload my song until i provide them with written permission from Warner Music Group. I don't have any contact with them, how can i get this sorted out?

What if I want to set an album release for a month from now but I want a single from this album to be released 3 weeks from now. How do I do it without loosing streams and without waiting until the single is released to only then have one week to pitch the full album?

Hi Becky! Thank you so much for the video. I wonder if you can ask my question because I'm not finding a proper answer anywhere. So, I published two singles with a distributor (I signed a contract with them for a 3 year distribution exclusive on those 2 songs) and now I want to publish an EP with Distrokid including these 2 songs. Do you know if Distrokid just add these 2 singles to the album (keeping the two different distributions) or it will redistribuite them again under its name? Thank you so much!

Hello I have a couple of questions... So I released a single in mp3 form... But now I want to use that same single and release it onto a full-length album but using that same single in a wav form... My question is can I take the isrc code that was given to the MP3 and use it for the wav file of that single... And is it necessary to delete the original single before I release the single onto a full-length album?.... So in other words I want to re-release my single but I want to put it on my album using a WAV format... My understanding is that the audio needs to be the same but the artwork can be different. I believe most people would have different artwork for an album.

Yes, it will still have you upload album art and audio, but it has to be the same. I'm not sure how Distrokid will detect if it's not the same, but on their website it says it needs to have the same metadata, be the same length, same artist, etc.

Just a quick question: if the already released song was released on another platform (case in point, ONErpm), could I still release it on the album from this other platform (let's say DistroKid)? Yes! You would go into ONErpm to get the ISRC code, then when you go to release it through Distrokid on a new EP or album, it'll ask you if the song was previously released. You say "yes", then it'll ask you to enter that ISRC code so it can make the connection. Hope that was helpful!

If I were to upload the audio file would it cancel the linking with the old track and just be a separate song on the album based on the audio file? hi thanks for this video! if the song includes cover songs, will we have to pay for an additional cover song license for those releases? I'm currently doing a 12-month project, 1 song per month and all of them are cover songs. @@CasperFox What I've found out is that Distrokid IS going to charge an annual fee for every single cover. Which is pretty ridiculous! There are other places where you can obtain the mechanical license for the song, pay a flat fee and the license is either good forever or for a set number of downloads (not streams, but digital downloads or physical product sales). Tunecore has this service they offer, even if you don't distribute through them from what I can tell. Just get the proof of license for $5 www.tunecore.com/cover-song-licensing. You can also find the publisher for each song at Harry Fox Agency and request the license one at a time . Or you can use www.easysong.com This article from Songtrust is the most up to date and easy to understand that I've found. help.songtrust.com/knowledge/who-do-i-need-to-get-permission-from-to-record-and-release-a-cover-song I'll probably do a video on just this subject because it is so complex, confusing AND commonly asked! I've never used tunecore but I know with other DSP's, there should be a dashboard you can go to where you can pick up where you left off. If not, you might have to start over 😫 Then I would suggest waiting to enter everything until after you have everything you need to submit the entire album.

The album art, artist name and audio all have to be the same, so you could only upload it if all of the previous stuff matched when you uploaded. I hope that helps!

I should say, the audio has to be the exact same as before. The album art can be different because a lot of times, people do this because they are including a single on a new album release.

Ok, I think I found the answer for you! As long as you use the ISRC code and include the original release date and the new master does not have significant changes, you can upload that new master. You can call it "remastered" in the track, if you'd like. This is according to Distrokid.

as long as you use that ISRC code, it won't show up as a second version, I believe it may show up under "singles" as well as the EP but it will keep all of the accumulated streaming numbers.

You can't add a new song to an existing album. You can take down that album and submit a new album with the new song, and my guess is you could enter the ISRC codes of the songs that had been on the album before so you don't lose those streaming numbers.

That's a good question. The answer is no, they are two different things and serve different purposes. The ISRC code is generated for the song, a UPC is for a "bundle" which could be for a single, an EP or Album. Here's an article on distrokid talking about the differences.
