My Father in Law got this very model from his father who passed away and hes wanting t get it running again, it hasnt run in decades, but im on a mission to see about getting it to live and run down the rails once again. i just fixed mine that my grandparents got for me, they have passed as well last year, and hes been looking to get i going again bcause he remembers spending time with his dad and this train as i did mine with my grandparents and myself. so i can relate big time to his reason, hense why i got mine running again, it doesnt just carry the freight cares, it also carries those wonderful memories too.

Thats a great story. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for watching. The 2035(magnetraction), 2025, and 675 are all great running locomotives. Lionel reallly hit the mark when they produced these. They can be a pain to work on though because everything is so tightly packed into the shell. I feel Lionels carry memories for a lot of people, which is probably a key factor for why they are still around and sought after.

Well, thanks, but you didn’t need to take that brush plate completely off on our account. LOL.

I actually have to most of the time when I get these. It seems few people ever clean the copper plates on the commutation. I clean them regularly because I run these so much.

Great video on taking apart and rebuilding an older engine. I have a 675 engine that stopped working at Christmas so I am getting ready to take it apart. Finding this video was a big help. Did you ever do a video on rebuilding the E unit? Thanks for sharing.
@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331 Жыл бұрын
The 3 position eunits are all the same setup. I do have a video that shows a complete tear down of an eunit. When you take your 675 apart, be sure to make note of how the parts are positioned. There's a lot of parts packed into a tight space. In the end you'll have an amazing runner. My 2035 is probably my smoothest running and best smoking Loco.

Just a tip for future rust clearing on nickel or chrome plated items, the gun community uses an acrylic scrubber pad called a Big .45 cleaning pad, they sell for a reasonable price and will strip rust off of delicate surfaces without removing the plating. I use them on rusty firearm, and it doesn’t remove or damage bluing!

You're lucky to find both of those springs ..they dissolve once removed; soluble in air ; )

That same locomotive appeared in quite a few old Gumby episodes, most notably "Train Trouble."

Nice video . nice engine .nice work . I just rebuilt a 2036 . not to much different a good old engine run nice. I'm looking for a screw kit for it. Thanks

Thanks for watching! The 2036 is quite a bit different. 2036 is part of this "family" No. 2016, 2018, 2026 (1951), 2029, 2037, 2037-500 and 637. Still a fantastic loco. I rebuilt the 2037 version. Magnetraction (like yours) but with a smoke unit. That video is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKjId6FtZcmdn6Msi=BxeGMXv0ATOrIQK1 Theres lots of vendors you should be able to search and get you screw kit for the 2036. Let me know how it works out!

I acquired a 2035 off of eBay about a year ago and being that it is Christmas time my son has gotten it out when I received it it had a few things wrong with it the articulating rods were not lined up correctly somebody had made poor rivets to pins I corrected some of these anomalies and got it running but it truly needs to be gone through the smoke unit isn't working either so was your excellent tutorial on this video I will be taking on the task later this evening of doing the same thing Hee Haw and Merry Christmas

Thanks for watching! This 2035 has been a BEAST since it got fixed up. Definitely was worth the effort and I am confident you will feel the same when yours is all back together properly.👍🍻

The Lionel 2035 was part of a set my Father bought in the 1950's. I liked it but never understood why Lionel didn't just make it an authentic Pennsy K4 4-6-2. Perhaps reversing the wheel arrangement allowed it to stay on not so friendly track plans.

Thanks for watching! Its a great locomotive. Since this video it has been unstoppable and a great puller. Its too bad authenticity wasn't a bigger part of Lionel s designs. The one that bugs me is the 221 "Dreyfuss" It should have been a so much larger.

I would not have removed the screws from the brush plate. The springs can be picked up and slid over their frame and you can remove the brushes and clean the tubes and reinstall and then slid the springs back. A whole lot easier than your method. Additionally, when installing a liquid smoke unit polish a spot outside and solder the ground wire to the unit. Much easier than trying to add a wire and attach it. Also, I would not put anything in the smoke unit except the fireproof stuffing and then the top with the resistor attached. You can put the sleeve over the resistor to keep smoke fluid moist, but that is the purpose of the stuffing. No other packing should be installed. It will smoke reliably when installed for a longer time.

Thanks for watching. Those are some great extra tips!
@larryberger9440 Жыл бұрын
You do not have to remove the brush springs. mostly they are always fine. You could also just test the smoke unit by using the transformer and a wire with a light bulb. This is a continuity tester. Take the wire to the transformer, the other end to the smoke unit wire and the other wire from the trans to the ground on the smoke unit. It the light works- the smoke unit is good. You probably ruined the element by sticking the screw driver all around. You might also want to read th service manual and get the correct terms for the parts.. what you call a face plate is called the boiler front. !!!

Thanks for watching. You could but I didn't because this was so messed up inside. All the previous tinkering and shoddy repair work really hacked it up. Theres no way any power would have went through it, which is why the seller advertised it as a parts loco. It needed a complete overhaul, not just transformers checking continuity. Sometimes you have to start from scratch. Since this overhaul this 2035 has been running like it was brand new.
