Thanks for watching! Its always great to hear from folks new to the hobby because thats truly who my videos are geared towards. The point being these locos are easy to work on with simple tools and can be enjoyed for many more years, or even generations!

I just rebuilt the same tender. I replaced the wiring one at a time after I took some picture's . I had to seal the plastic whistle box with some scilcone sealant. Thanks
@Crosley-1520 Жыл бұрын
I would replace the old wires that connect to the truck rollers too, the isolation is already cracking and is only matter of time before they start losing more of it and make a short circuit.

What gauge wire should you use ?
@Crosley-1520 Жыл бұрын
@@banjomanmi76-hu8wf Any 20 or 22 AWG stranded wire will do. It is not critical as it is just a short piece of wire and there are no high currents involved. More importantly, it should be flexible enough to allow the trucks to move freely.

Excellent video with good explanation. It’s also reassuring to see another person leave out a part ( brushes) because I’ve done that before.

Thanks for watching! More times than I care to admit after a complete tear down and reassemble, the reason my locos wont work is because I forgot the brushes (LOL), OR an original solder joint broke.

what would cause the motor to constantly run i bought it on market place.
@warrenmuzakpostwarguy433125 күн бұрын
Constantly run? Do you mean constantly in a certain direction? If so that means the e-unit needs attention. If it doesn't have a e-unit it has been wired to run in only one direction.

Is it your favorite because it whistles? 😊

I really like the shape and size of it. It looks great with a lot of locos. I think some folks referred to this as a "coffin" type. It doesn't really look like a coffin to me.

Lighter fluid works well to clean the carbon and it doesn't leave a residue. P.S. it's an impeller 👍

I would hope lighter fluid didn't leave a residue. One spark and its flame train. Impeller, yes, thank you.👍

One thing to watch for on these whistles with the motor. If the motor is spinning the wrong way, you will also get mostly an air sound and not a whistle sound.

A little over kill with a crescent wrench…no? A nut driver should be more than adequate to remove a #6, #8 or #10 nut……..LOL. I had one where the impeller moved on the armature shaft and rubbed. Simple reposition impeller and all is working as it should again. Brushes look short (worn)? Good presentation.

Hey Gene thanks for watching. My selection of tools is limited so I use what I have. Its important to me to include all levels of Lionel and model train fans, some all the tools and specialized hobby tools, those that don't should not feel excluded. I hope get younger people involved and included in the hobby by showing how to make do with what you got. Tinker and have fun. Keep the Lionels OUT of the garbage and on the track, the best way you can. If I had more resources I might expand my tool set, for now, what I can afford to spend, I'll spend on locomotives, rolling stock and track! Thanks again for your support and comments. Have a great week! W

I had one of these tenders and it would not work. I went on the OMG blog and someone suggested reversing the power to the track. Since it is AC I couldn't understand how that would work, but I tried it. And guess what...it worked.
@Crosley-1520 Жыл бұрын
The whistle actually works with DC: Lionel transformers have an internal diode (selenium or copper-oxide type on older units) that gets connected into the circuit when the whistle button is pressed (or the whistle handle turned); the DC activates the relay in the tender which in turn starts the motor. Both the tender and locomotive motors are of universal type, so they work equally on AC or DC. But sometimes the tender relay becomes magnetized and thus more sensitive to certain polarity, and that's why reversing wires help. It may happen also that the diode inside the transformer fails, in which case it should be replaced by a modern silicon type.

@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331 Жыл бұрын
Hey Ken, thanks for watching! I have never had an issue with them. If I see any residue from the pad on a part, I just blow on it, and that clears it.

Falta sellar las raniritas del motor para que no se escape el aire y salga con mayor fuerza hacia los silvatos porque se pierde fuerza
