How Do I Increase My Faith? - I Want to Grow My Faith

I want to grow my faith -- what can I do? Can reading God’s word and praying more expand my faith? How can I increase my faith?
In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Richard Caldwell and host Dr. Josh Philpot talk about faith, where it comes from, what it is, and how it grows and increases. Dr. Philpot introduces the passage of Luke 17 where we can read of the disciples of Christ wanting their faith to be increased. Being disciples of Christ ourselves, we should all want our faith to increase; but how do we go about doing that? Can we increase our faith?
Dr. Caldwell first points out that the One who gives us faith is the One who increases our faith. He directs us to the text of Luke 17 and reminds us whom it is that the disciples ask to increase their faith: it is the Lord Jesus Himself. So, we do not increase our faith; God does.
Secondly, Dr. Caldwell asks, “What is faith?” He tells us in a nut shell that faith is believing God. It is taking God at His Word, trusting in His character, knowing and believing whom He has revealed Himself to be, and living out these truths daily. Therefore, it is to God we must come and ask for the increase of our faith, knowing that He can and will by working through different means.
Dr. Caldwell further explains that faith is like a muscle: it grows stronger as it is stressed. When our faith is tested, tried, and stretched, it is being expanded for greater capacity. As we trust in God and believe in His sovereignty in this world and in our lives, we are exercising the faith that He has given us. By continuing to trust, walking out and acting faithfully upon the Word of God, remembering God’s past graces to us in thankfulness, we continue to exercise and expand the opportunities for our faith to increase.

Does GOD'S WORD PROMISE WORLDLY WEALTH IN NEW TESTAMENT OR IS IT PROMISED FOR US IN HEAVEN ALONE is the word saying seek me , and since u r in me after three time u will be in heaven with me where there are roads of gold, crown of diamond etc?

Thank you for a useful direction. It's like a catch-22, or maybe better, a feedback loop: to increase faith, we have to have enough faith in the first place to take a risk, which in turn will motivate continued risks to leave our comfort zones.

I know d Lord has been leading me. He healed me n helped me accomplished something impossible as I fought one of d hardest battles of my life ie d Parliamentary Elections here in India where I had to fight against d terrorists, fought against money n muscle power bt Yahweh, my God did a miracle dt I won against all odds.... I need your prayer to increase my faith in d Almighty

I do have my faith in God I do have my faith and Lord Jesus Christ I do believe that they will grant me back my ex Victoria I believe that they will grant me a place to go home but it scares me I might not have enough I do remember what God has done for me giving me jobs putting a roof over my head saving my son's life I do remember what he has done for me and I believe and I do have my faith that scares me that it's just not enough for him to grant me my prayers. I pray everyday for reconciliation with my ex and I for us to become a couple again I pray every single day for me to move into a place to call home and I do believe that God will grant me this I believe that God already has I think God's word first hands I have seen my blessings firsthand I have seen my miracles first and but scares me now that I don't have enough faith and I ask God for faith I ask him to help me increase it what else can I do

Hi Joseph, thanks for your comment. Here are a couple of links to Sermons that address this issue you have raised. It’s important to know that the faith that saves is not a certain AMOUNT of faith, but a certain KIND of faith. It is not more faith or less faith. It is TRUE faith instead of FALSE faith. Only true faith saves, and is identified by whether a person recognizes their sin against God, and believes in Christ, God’s Son, as God’s provision of the perfect sacrifice to pay the price that sin deserves. Trusting in Christ alone for salvation from God’s wrath against our sin is the only way of salvation that God has provided (not found in ourselves, our good deeds, or our attempts to keep God’s law) Hope these are helpful to you. I do have my faith don't get me wrong I do believe when my son was younger he was going through some really bad seizures and I dropped to my knees and I prayed that he would come through this and then he would get better and it's 5 years later and knock on wood he is not had one I seen God's miracles when I was homeless granted me back my old job and my boss let me sleep in the basement I have seen God's work firsthand I know he's real I know that Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for us I believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and savior I believe that he sits on the right hand of God I believe all this and I believe that God and Jesus can Will and have granted me everything that I am praying for I know it's God's timing I know that it's not my timing it's his when a time is right I know that I will have everything that I'm praying for a place to call home reconciliation with my current ex-girlfriend Victoriaand everything else that I'm praying for I know that God has granted it to me already I know it's his timing

Dear Brothers, I now know salvation has nothing to do with my Faith in Jesus but just the opposite, its is the Faith OF Jesus Christ living in me that brings salvation and Rest to my Soul. Romans 3:22 & Galatians 2:16- 21 and note verses 16 and 20 in the King James translation. Until the I which is the EGO is but to death Christ can not rule inside me or any one else and bring Spiritual Eternal life. Paul said correctly, It is not longer I=EGO but Christ in me For the I= EGO has been Crucified. The entire New Covenant is about you getting out of the way and allowing the Christ Spirit with in to bring the power of Grace through the Faith of Christ Jesus alone. Eph. 2:8-9. When a person knows that, they will have entered the new Way of the New Creation= The New Covenant where God does it all at all times every day in every way in His Spirit and Truth. 1st John say's Hereby Know you the Spirit of God. Every spirit that confesses with the mouth that Jesus Christ has come in the Flesh is of God. The Question is who's Flesh? The context clearly say's in your Flesh. your human body of flesh and blood. Read for your self 1st John 4:1-6. It does not say the Flesh of Jesus who came 2000 years ago. When any one say's Jesus the Christ is coming again in the future and are still waiting for the Kingdom of the Spirit to come they are of the wrong spirit. Luke 17:20-21 Know you not the kingdom of God is within you' and it does not come with observation or in the fleshly world, and again My Kingdom is not of this world. Hebrews 9:28 Say's this= So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; but now will APPEAR the second time without sin unto salvation. Question? How will and how did He appear a second time as promised bringing a New way of salvation.the New and better Covenant way. Answer- On the day of Pentecost when He descended on the Disciples to dwell in them by His giving them His Spirit and his Mind as the power to live a Righteous life every day in the New Covenant way. Christ in you the Hope of Glory Colossians 1; 24-29 note vs. 27. I personally confess with my mouth Christ Jesus lives in me by the power of resurrection every day and He by doing so has raised me up to sit with Him at His Right hand of God on high. What else can God give other than what He already has given? All any one need do is to receive what is available, The Faith and Grace of Jesus the Christ the Anointing one who is willing and Abel to Anoint you with his Spirit, if you allow Him alone to empower you as you walk in His Spirit and not the Flesh every day of the week and year.
