Thus, stop trading and start investing in broad-market ETFs unless all you have available are mutual funds in your 401k or 403b. ETFs are available to your IRAs or taxable accounts and are more tax-efficient than mutual funds. VTI, VT, AVGE, SPY, IVV, QQQ, QQQM, RSP, ITOT, SPLG, DFAC, VOO, etc. are available broad-based ETF funds

I read Nick's book. Such a tough psychology to go lump sum. Like the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other.

Yes we NEED a very special episode of The Compound where Duncan & Barry take the EV911 for a ride. Could turn into another Compound series: "Duncan in Other's Cars Talking 'Bout Money" where instead of bringing the Compound's financial-world friends into the studio, Duncan just rides shotgun with them in their cars asking some questions.
@rossmacintosh565259 минут бұрын
I think that idea could be popular. I also think Duncan is the right guy for it. He loves cars and the conversations could feature the successful guests giving young Duncan (and the viewers) their best parental-like financial advise. Pitch it Duncan!

If I had to invest a large sum I'd probably do it in in a portfolio that I'm comfortable with when I retire. If you did your homework that portfolio should be good in most situations.

I disagree with the comment that the show is being political. Whether you like it or not Trump is the most economically consequential president of our time. That is not to say bad or good just that the markets like certainty and Trump is definitely not a staus quo candidate or president. I also havent seen Josh being political other (and definitely not anti or pro trump) but i have seen him talk about potential policy shifts and their potential for the markets. That is releveant to me and my portfolio. I do agree of it was politics talking for politics sake then i would not be listening (think joe kernan and cnbc squawk). This is not that. Barry went out of his way to mention the reason political affilation is a bad reason to get out of the markets (examples used were Obama and first Trump).

I love this channel , but please don't start playing political stuff. This show is been shifting to hating on Trump lately . starting with Josh and the crew, but please move one he is the president and forget politics.

I disagree. Trump whether you like it or not is one of the most economically consequential president's of our time. That isn't to say bad or good but his views and policies vary widely from the status quo which effects the markets as any uncertainty always does. I also haven't seen or heard Josh say anything anti trump (if anything some comments have been pro trump policy) so I cannot comment to your statement. Now i agree if it becomes a political talking point and not tied to markets then it's not desirable to me. Much like Joe Kernan on cnbc always inserting politics into every interview has me stopped watching squawk as much as I used to.

They literally just had a segment on not playing politics. If you disagree with something you’ll be ok. There’ll be people on the other side who get butt hurt too sometimes. They do a fantastic job of staying as balanced as possible and focusing on the markets. I’ve worked in financial markets for over 20 years and never found anything this insightful for every day investors.

Terrible advice on investing a lump sum. Maybe you guys should read about tail risk or something... The odds having been in your favour doesn't help much if the stock crashes 40% and stays there for a decade. Also, lump sum odds may not be positive currently at all because of the high valuations. I wouldn't invest on megacaps at current prices lump sum or otherwise...

You should read Nick Maggiulli's writings on lump sum vs DCA. He literally wrote the book on it.

@@TheCompoundNews I'm aware of the odds... however odds change some when the market is expensive... the statistics also show that SP500 is expected to give only around 3% returns the nex decade. I would say that it basically depends on your circumstances and the sum invested... whether you are ok if a long crash comes shortly after the lump sum or if you have to then sell at cheap prices. The odds for a long crash may be small at any given time, but not negligible. On other hand dollar cost averaging has its flaws as well and it's kinda just postponing the date you're fully invested, albeit reduces the risk some. I received a large lump sum a little under couple years ago, and have been timing the market with moderate success, buying when cheap or fairly priced. My main holdings are Finland, China (caught at the bottom), US & EM Asia and a fair amount of bond funds & MM funds. If I had to start now I'd probably lump sum to fairly priced equity funds say 20-30% and put most of the money waiting at bond funds / MM funds for future opportunities. The important thing with investing large sums is to invest so that you will be ok whatever happens at the market.

@ naw, that’s just hangover from hitting their first year of profitability. The 30%-40% growth in profits next year will drop that significantly. It’ll eventually trade at a 20X. The trajectory is exponential, especially with the deregulation and corporate tax cuts with the incoming Trump administration. It’s money in the bank. Up 5% again today. It’s a longterm winner or buyout target.
