How Do I Know If My Pellet Stove Control Board Is Bad?

Heya Jason, I've got a lopi pioneer pellet stove. I got it used last year, a lot of the components have been replaced. new squirrel fan and blower motor. The augur stopped turning. bought a new augur motor- still nothing. The manual switch, doesn't engage the motor. We've been trying to chase down the vacuum sensors and wiring but are at a loss as to what else might be causing the issue. So- what can we check or test to figure out where the breakdown is. The fuse is intact and the wires themselves seem mostly ok. and what would be a mother board problem and how to test that?

just to add , i got a static zap when i touches the start button a few months ago . the erratic behavior started after that . stove is a breakwell p 22 . i have a new board on order .

hi your videos are very good. I have a weird problem with my Harman Accentra insert. After my pre season cleaning the stove combustion motor turns on when i plug it in but the switch is set to off. Could this be a control board issue?

That would more likely be a low limit sensor which usually is mounted to the exhaust fan. It has two wires going to it. With the stove unplugged, disconnect one of the wires. Plug the stove in and the fan should not turn on.

@@playingwithfire2038 thanks for the reply but i have a harman accentra insert from 2008. i believe it's a 52i. Not sure though. I don't think it has a limit switch. It does have an esp though. could that be the issue. I did clean it. Thanks for the help.

Jason,I have a Golden Eagle stove (Breckwell) now U.S stove A-E-401GE circuit board , My issue is I had a fan plugged in the same outlet and I tripped over the cord of the fan and it pulled the wires out of the box-fan and sparked the wires on the fan,but it also blew my circuit breaker and now the stove won't turn on ?Did I Blow the circuit board or ?? please help if you can !

Hey Jason, tried to start my Whitfield Advantage WP2-III last week. Heard a slight “pop” when pressing the start button and nothing turned on. Replaced the control board fuse and checked breakers. Now getting no response from board at all.

DEAD,DEAD,DEAD..I have Enviro Empress FS, my combustion fan stopped working. While I was troubleshooting I popped the circuit board, changed the fuse…nothing. I order a circuit breaker but no juice. I tried what you said about disconnecting all the motors then adding them back no juice at all. I have been a pellet stove user for 10 yrs and this is the first time this as happened. Maybe I need a new wire harass or Do you think they sent me a bad circuit board..is there anyway of testing any thing. Nothing is working😮

Hey Jason. I have an englander pellet stove. It works fine when you first light it. Flame goes up a bit, then down a bit as normal. After a while, it starts feeding crazy and stove gets super hot even with it in d mode and it's set 1 5 1 on advanced settings. Heat range on 2 and blower speed on 7. Any idea why this is doing this?

I would replace the temp sensor. You have to get those directly from Englander.

Thanks for the info, it confirmed my suspicion of the control board since it's completely dead. Got it started after not running for years, next day nothing. I have a bosca 500 spirit, haha yes I know. I would have loved for you to repair it but a new one is $220 and you charge $250. Is this still accurate?

Hi Jason First THANK YOU! I have an Europa 75 Dell-Point stove. I keep getting codes F5 & F6 when I start it. I have checked the fuses and wires all is good. I thought it could possibly be the control board but after watching this I am doubting my diagnoses. I have removed and cleaned the augers and stove. I am at a loss. Suggestions?

F6 Problem-Auger ash extraction motor fuse blown; Solution--Clear jammed auger and replace fuse. I have done both. I get power and blower fan just can not get rid of codes and feed auger to drop.

I have a pel pro pp60 stove. Routine maintenance and cleaning. My auger switch broke so I jumped it... working great until kids knock jumper wire out and blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse with correct fuse and replaced the switch as well. Since said problems fixed my auger wants to run non stop and over fill the burn pot. What could be the cause of this? I'm thinking when said jumper wire came out and grounded it blew the fuse and part of the board. I can stand beside it and keep tripping the switch to turn on and off the pellet feed. All fans are kicking on in sequence and does great as long as I'm *manually * flipping the feed switch. But it I let it run on it's own its overfeeding..... should I get a new board ? I have tested the snap disc as well and it is working. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the auger running continuously is classic bad control board. I think you need a new one.

Hey. I appreciate the video. I am a little confused on my Quadra-Fire Castile Insert. When I first plug in my cord, the lights come on but the exhaust fan won't. If the exhaust fan doesn't come on, nothing else will happen. its just dead. I get 15VAC at the fan. I jumpered the fan to the wall outlet and the fan works. I removed the control box and checked the incoming pins to the control box. There was one with 120VAC (others with odd voltages ranging from 4-9) from the cord but still had 9VAC at the fan with the control box out. This seems odd to me. I cannot find a wire diagram for my unit but I am thinking the fan should get 120VAC coming from the outlet to the control box to the fan. Do you know if that is how they are typically wired or where I can get a wiring diagram? Would you guess its the control box? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason, I am a widow with a massive problem on my hands. I have a Harmen Advance-2 Pellet stove, Bought in 2006. Tonight I heard what sounded like a circuit pop and my pellet stove completely shut down immediately. No slow down, like if it was shut off. Completely off in a matter of like 3 seconds. The outlet works , I tested it with my cellphone charger. I plugged it into the other outlet and still nothing. Checked my fuse box in the basement , all was good there. (actually reset my whole house to make sure) The pellet stove is my ONLY source of heat. I am Eastern Long Island , Ny , we have at LEAST 8 more weeks of winter. There is nothing on the status board lite up. Please help!!!!! Where I bought my stove , Rella Coal, is absolutely a nightmare to deal with when it comes to these type of things. I am so worried.

oplanetjanet janet, if you are heading into next winter with the same pellet stove as your only source of heat then i reccomend watching as many youtube videos as you can. Find your exact model, then unscrew the back of your unit, and onserve the parts people are changing in there videos. You will feel more comfident. I really hope this winter is short and warm for ya dear... your post broke my damn heart

Hi Jason My Harmon Accentra II runs well in Stove mode but I get 4 blinks (indicating no thermostat is hooked up) in the Room mode. It has thermostat connected. When I connect the two connector contacts together with a jumper cable, I still get the 4 blinks and the stove will not start automatically. Sometimes I need to turn stove "on" twice to get it to light in Stove mode, but it will light. Could this be a board problem? Any Ideas?

I don't know that board very well so I would call Harmon on it. But if I would jumping out the thermostat I would be sure to do it right at the board and not at the end of the thermostat wires. I've had bad thermostat wires in the past cause this sort of problem.

Hi Jason, I have an Austroflamm integra and the auger light is just flashing quickly and the auger is not turning on. Read it could be the control board, just the EPROM, or the users control board. Anyway to trouble shoot which one may be bad? If I jumper the low temperature sensor, the combustion motor runs when the main switch is off. Any suggestions? Thanks

So last year I bought a used England's 25-EPI and it ran fine for about 2 hours then it started popping fuses. I unplugged the auger motor and it did not pop a fuse. I removed the auger motor and connected it directly to a wall socket and the transformer on the motor assembly smoked itself. Since the motor is 120v A/C, I figured it must have been bad. I just installed a new motor and ran the stove successfully with a good flame for 2 hours. After the two hours I'm popping fuses all over again. Any ideas?

You have do the same basic process; start unplugging components until the fuse stops popping.

I noticed that my auger moter doesn't run all the time. It is very intermitten. I pulled the moter off of the whitfield stove and bench tested it. The moter workes and took approximately 54-56 seconds to make a complete rotation. I then checked the current runnint to the auger moter and found that when the feed light comes on the control board that there wasn't always power at the auger moter. The voltage was not constant when the light came on. What could be the problem? The control board?

I have a pleasant hearth ph50cabps and the blower wont turn off only if I unplug it I bought a snap disc and that wasn't it any help?

There is more than one snap disc on your stove and if you didn't replace the low limit snap disc or if you put a high limit snap disc in the low limit spot then you're stove would do this. Try unplugging the stove and disconnecting the snap disc that is mounted to the exhaust fan. Make sure the wires don't touch any metal on the stove or you will ruin your control board. Plug it back it and trying running it. It should turn off within 15 mins. If it doesn't follow those two wires back to the control board and disconnect them. Run the stove again. If it still won't shut off you may have a bad control board.

I have the same stove, mine does the same, it appears the stove needs to get up to set temperature before blowing air so it’s not blowing cold air. Hope that helps

So just to confirm, again it does blow on half and above with the stove running but when I lower it past half it shuts down and this is because the stove is not up to temp?? Think it would not run on high but run on low until the stove gets up to temp. So I don’t need a new Distribution blower?

Mine won't shut down properly. When I shut it down, it keeps feeding pellets and gets hotter and hotter until I empty the pellet bin and it runs out of pellets. That's the only way to shut it down.

@@JASONRICHARDMunson I'd rather just give it to you on here. It's a Vogelzang VG5770. I've been told it's the main board and costs $256 just for the board. I think I'll just install a switch on the power wire of the auger and shut the auger off when I shut down the stove. The schematics show the auger is directly controlled by the board.

Try disconnecting the low limit sensor. It's the round disc mounted to the exhaust fan with two wires going to it. With that disconnected it should shut off within 20 mins of startup.

@@JASONRICHARDMunson Yeah, I know the switch. I had to replace it a month ago or so. Kept giving me E-3 errors. There's always something wrong with this stove. I think it'll be easier to install a switch on the auger wire and turn it off when I turn off the stove. That' way I don't have to take the side cover off and pull the wire on the POF switch every time I want to shut it down. Thanks!!!

my board feed light jump around by them selves . also the fan would come on cold at start up. also if i lightly tap on the board cover the stove acted erratic . the next morning there were no light coming on when i pushed the start button . i back probed the power and common terminals at the board connector and the power out of the controller . has power . fuse is good i believe the old rap test verifies a bad board

Hi Jason, my pellet stove working fine but wont change pellet feed between 1 to 5 , It shows setting 5 when i set it through the control board but makes no difference to the feed of pellets, It just works away at the one speed , Just wondering is it the control board thats not working properly ? Just want it to feed more pellets for more heat. It's an ICB 22kw wood pellet boiler stove made in Barcelona, I do not have a manual for it. But other than that it works great without any problem, just need more pellet feed for more heat. Thanks for all your videos , so helpfull .
