Spent weeks trying to remove screws attached to stainless steel. I tried EZ Outs/Speed Outs, screw extractors, rubber bands, super glue, drill bits, gloves, and the only thing that worked was using a rotary tool with cutter (Harbor Freight $10) to cut a line/slit(Phillips flathead) in the center of the screw so an Impact Driver can hold onto the screw. My screw was too short and the material was very soft. Put painters tape on the screw before using an Impact Driver(Amazon $12). This was the only thing that worked for me. Hope this helps someone out there.

GROFOOPERS, I like to eat asparagus, and I save the heavy blue rubber bands that hold the bunch or bundle of asparagus together. By the way, if you have a ceiling fan with glass-globe light fixture combination, and the glass globe or globes over the bulb or lamp tend to rattle and buzz from the vibration of the ceiling fan, put one of those blue rubber bands on the glass globe and then tighten the set screws that hold the globe in place against the rubber band.

Good rubber bands are hard to find! Try eating more asparagus (love it!), and saving the blue rubber bands that hold the bunch of asparagus together. Those things are pretty tough. I would imagine that a good auto parts store would have some thin but tough rubbery gasket material or square O-rings or something like that that you could try, that would be a little tougher than ordinary rubber bands. Often times, the real problem is a worn screwdriver or screw bit tip, or one that isn't sized correctly or manufactured to a tight enough tolerance to really grab the screw without any slop or play in the interface between the screw head and the driver bit. If you really need to be certain that you get the screw loose and are able to remove it the very first time, don't use an ordinary Screwdriver from your kitchen drawer. Buy a bunch of screwdriver bits and a nut driver handle that holds them, and I would probably buy several sets of identical size and style of bits from several different manufacturers, because you might find cases where one particular manufacturer's bit, be at Phillips or Torx or whatever, fits the screw in question better than another manufacturer's screwbit does. It has come to my attention recently that there is a Japanese industrial standard version of Phillips screws that is different from most of the others! Unfortunately, those screws are not marked as such, and the JIS bits that match are not a common hardware store item. There is also the Pozi Drive screw and matching bits that are frequently used in European and sometimes Canadian or even American products. They sort of look like a Phillips screw at first glance, but they aren't really the same! Learn to recognize them on-site! If it's a Pozi Drive screw, get a posi Drive screwdriver bit! Finally, don't attempt to remove screws with a powered screwdriver if there is any indication that the screws might be really tight (or made of soft material) and prone to stripping out, or if the very first screw you've tried to remove got stripped. Break them all free by hand with a properly sized and selected bit that has a high tolerance for fitting to the screw that you wish to remove. You could also try using heat, such as from a soldering iron or soldering gun, or perhaps even cold from a can of keyboard duster held upside down and dripped onto the screw head, which will act like Freon or another refrigerant. A couple of cycles of heat and cold may help break the bond between the screw and whatever it is screwed into. I have found that Anodizing unmetal chassis often has a tendency to bond to the paint or anodizing on the underside of a countersunk screw. Of course, you can't use heat if the screw goes into plastic, but cold might be helpful. Just be aware that plastic will become more brittle when chilled.

The Dremel Method works! Cut the groove deep, have a wide enough Screw driver bit and go slow with 1st turns.
@goodun60815 жыл бұрын
Much harder to cut a slot with the Dremel tool if the screw is flush and you don't want to damage the surface of whatever the screw is countersunk into. Also, the metallic debris thrown out is conductive and therefore you need to take great pains to not let it get into the circuit board or hard drive or whatever if it is an electronic device that you are working on. If it is merely a metal chassis, you can heat the screw with a soldering gun or soldering iron, and that might break the bond enough that you can get it out; and if the first couple of screws give you trouble removing them, or strip out, then you should try heating all the other screw heads *before* attempting to remove them for the very first time. This might help prevent stripping the screw heads on the very first try. Somebody else on KZbin likes to use a can of that pseudo compressed air stuff (for blowing dust out of computer keyboards and such), as a Freon substitute, because cold liquid will drip out of it if the can is held upside down and the trigger squeezed. You could try this method of cooling the screws instead of heating them, especially if the screws are going into plastic where heat is not an option. The metal screw will contract when cooled. The plastic might tend to get when severely chilled so caution is advised.

@sristisingh96485 жыл бұрын
Some toys have battery slots which require you to unscrew the screw but the quality would be so cheap or they are screwed so tight that it wont rotate and instead the screw looses its inside borders which holds the screw driver. What to do in that case??
