With the guidance of Pat Kelly, I have an 8wt Mangrove Coast with the Hi-Vis line. The two compliment each other exceptionally well! I would not want to go any heavier. Thanks Pat, MRO, and Flip!

There are many things that goes with setting up the equipment. Also the presentation. Priority before anybody buying equipment is to know what type of fish and water and environments this person is looking forward to present the fly to the fish. Then you can adapt and specialize into that sport. I used to be a dry fly fisherman for trout only for 15 years but I I know is totally different sport I a, into streamer fishing salt. So now my equipment is totally different.😊

I have my grandfather's old fiberglass 2-piece rod. It's so old that it no longer has markings on it so I don't know what WT it is, but I wanted to use 7/8 WT line, but it didn't work with the leader it came with, so I cut it off and put on a leader of just 10lbs mono. After I did that the entire setup casts grate, and I don't understand why but it's pretty cool. Keep up the good videos.

I’ve been using the Titan lines on my Orvis Helios rods for last 3 or more years and they work great for me on big bass/pike/musky streamers. Some rods just need to go over lined to work. I’m a fan of the AirFlo power taper also.

If you're looking for a video idea, I would love to learn more about rod lengths. I tend to gravitate to shorter rods usually less than 8 1/2 feet. Am I missing something by using shorter rods? I fish mostly canals both from shore and small boat in fresh and salt water. I think there are many people that would find a rod length discussion useful. Also I would love an introduction video to everyone at the shop. Love your stuff and always learn a lot. Thank you.

I find a shorter rod is easier to fish with all day. Now in my 50s, I find a longer rod, over 9ft, hard on my hands and wrists all day, unless I'm using my 10ft switch, which I can use double handed.

People need to pay more to the grain wt of the lines. Manufacturers are gone off the rails with overweighting lines. Forget the line number on the box. Read the real line wt and match it with your rod. I use a 7wt cobalt rod. I know from experience. 205 to 240 loads that rod perfectly and it works. With experience this is learned.

I think you need to take any rod and try half a dozen lines on it, at the ranges you're going to be fishing at. Some of my rods perform better underlined, or overlined. It's a very personal preference as well. I tend to prefer lighter loading, as you get increased line speed and it's better if you're carrying a long line.

I’ve tried lighter line and heavier line and it just doesn’t work very well with the design of the rod. Heavier line makes a whip out of it and I end up leaving most of the fly material behind me. A light line it fails on the forward motion. Matching the line to the rod gives that easy 1-2-3-4.

Hi i am not good with emails but i have a question i have a 7 weight i am having trouble roll casting i can get like 20 feet it was a combo with line on it so would it help me if i get good line and if so what line would be good for me to get started roll casting better

Have you tried single spey lines? Rio and others do them and they are great for rolls and overhead as well. I have them in AFTM 6 and 7 and use them for sea trout, Atlantic salmon in rivers and stocked rainbows in lakes where a back cast is tricky. Gets you in the zone.

Should I be looking for a Cotto or a Genoa Salami. and should I bring some Provolone cheese? On a more salient point good video guys. Now why do I have fly rods that say for instance 5/6 wt. It seems to me the rod maker should know what weight the rod is. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
