Often, when beginning a meditation practice, we are inspired and motivated to connect with our inherent awareness, wisdom, and compassion. However, after a while, we may find ourselves feeling bored and distracted, and sometimes wonder why we started in the first place. In this monthly teaching, Mingyur Rinpoche shares “up and down” experiences with meditation and advice on how to keep it fresh and reconnect with our motivation.

Rinpoches aura is beautiful! One of the biggest things I've learned for meditation is breath control. Simply focusing on the breath going into my nose will force my body to relax and alter my focus to something positive. Don't stop meditation practice people. Yongey is an enlightened being. Even if not everything makes sense he is helping you in unseen ways. Many thanks to you!

I actually thought about something similar while studying today, but didn't listen to myself. I always forced myself to stick to the plan, and plans never worked for me in my studies. So today I thought maybe I should change the lesson when I get bored, instead of continuing the same lesson when I can't read even one other word of it (so it's just killing time and no outcome). Your technique is also the same, you say that repetitive things get boring for us (as humans), so instead of wanting to stick to the plan, just listen to your inner self who wants new things once in a while. And of course I'll try this amazing guide in my meditations as well as my studies. ❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you very much. For me it's always so helpful to see that others have same kind of struggles as I do. Then I don't feel so bad about myself and I realize that all things I encounter are quite normal, and part of the path.

Hey there! I'm diving headfirst into Buddhism and I'm hungry to soak up all the knowledge I can get my hands on. I'm talking Samsara, Dukkha, and everything in between. Plus, I've recently started meditating, and I'm dead set on making it a daily habit. I'm eager for some guidance on where to find top-notch info on Buddhism and all that jazz. And if you've got any killer tips or meditation techniques, lay 'em on me! ALSO have a wonderful day :) Edit: OH WAIT ONE MORE THING! IS IT REALLY TRUE YOU CAN INDUCE A LUCID DREAM WHILST MEDITATING?! (if you're that good of course.)

About the pizza example - We want change of the food because we want the permanence of pleasure. I would not say it is deeper About wanting to control something - We indeed want the permanence of a pleasure by trying to control what is not controllable. The rule is to let go of all of it.

Is it the same for those of us with brain disorders? How to combat neurotransmitter imbalances….? I meditate for 30 minutes in the morning and then short times many times. I enjoy it but cannot seem to increase my time.

Maybe you don't need to increase the time? 30 times in mornings on a pretty regular basis is already pretty routine, you're doing the thing!

I keep trying to build a habit. There's always 100 things needing to be done, and generally if i try anyway, i fall asleep. Maybe with mantra chanting, id at least stay awake.

In sports, we train In arts, we train In meditation, we train in sports, it takes years regularly based practice in arts, it takes years regularly based practice in meditation, it takes years regularly based practice why would you things to be different ? Easy path dont exist, only suffering ! Difficult path dont exist, only your path exist from where you are, and it is the right one. Walk outside now, and look at birds guiding the way

In Buddhism, we say that meditation alone can give you calm, serenity, an easier time dealing with the struggles of life. But, we believe the real difference comes when one practices good behavior (particularly what are known as the 5 Precepts, but also just being a kind person makes a difference) along with not only breathing meditation, but also something called “insight meditation” or Vipassana. Not everyone will agree with this advice but from my tradition this is what we believe. Either way, best of luck to your practice. Much metta & Karuna ❤️

I experienced that too. It changed for me when I decided to do a 10 day silent intensive Vipassana retreat. It was very hard, but at the end I could see real results. I developed a daily practice and did another retreat a year later. That was over 20 years ago and now I have completed dozens of retreats. Meditation has changed my life and how I see the world. It’s not easy and it isn’t quick, but it has worked for me. Best wishes and keep trying.

I do have one main problem meditating. Every time I try to meditate as part of my practice I end up having mantras going through my mind instead of just meditating.
@middleofnowhere1313

Look up his video on "pizza meditation." It's about what to do when you are trying not to think of something, and that effort backfires. Let the mantras come, neither push them away nor attach to them. Over time things will clear up.

I live in Sweden. I tried meditation when I was in my 20's a few times, but it was White Woman Meditation... Which is where they put on "Rustling leaves and bird noises volume 3" on the CD player and tell you to breathe and imagine a garden. Now, I have ADHD and aphantasia. Even if I COULD imagine a garden, I'm sure my ADHD brain would quickly walk out of it if nothing was really going on in there. 😅 I think your philosophy and foundation for meditating is a bit more inclusive honestly. No hate to my fellow white women, or the bird noises, but that brand of meditation is not for everyone lol.
