I thought the same thing. I'm not a body language expert, but in documentaries about lie detection, one of the most basic telltale signs are fidgeting, like nervously rubbing your ear like the girl on the right is doing. Could be that I'm overanalyzing though

At first I thought it looked like he was proud about his bullying, but I think he's just doing that thing where he smiles because he's uncomfortable and not sure how to respond. Either way, I think that assuming they broke up is pretty presumptuous, they just seem to have the sort of relationship where they're comfortable ribbing eachother.

That man laid down some serious truth when he said having a friend would help with bullying. Being bullied alone is terrible. Having even one friend to talk to about it makes a huge difference in getting through it.
@lunatic_3521
@lunatic_3521 6 жыл бұрын
It's not really having a friend to talk to about it, it's about having a friend in general. You don't feel completely alone anymore, that's my situation, my friend I know since 6 years now would never bully me obviously, I can always ignore what they do and have him support me. I'm very fortunate, I don't know how long things would work out for me if I was alone and on top of that bullied

generally bullying that involves subtle things in classroom hierarchy is worse and much more prevalent than physical bullying around east asia in general because actually going through with physical stuff(like pushing someone around/beating them up literally etc etc) will ruin your image. on the flip side, being literally alone makes you an easier target that people can comfortably poke around with stuff that subtly put you down you so even just being part of a circle without anyone you are particularly close with immediately blocks out that kind of bullying

Having been to school in Japan myself - I do think the bullying is more obvious in lower level schools and gets more subtle the higher the level of the school. I think everyone who sais he didn't at least witness bullying of some sort is either a liar or ignorant. Yes - at higher level schools there is no "we put you in a locker"-kind of stuff. Bullying happens on a more psychological way and people are intelligent enough to prevent getting caught. These girls saying they didn't experience any of that might just be unaware.

Completely. I go to an all girls school where everyone will be super nice to you. However, there is a sort of hierarchy and if you befriend someone lower than you, you lose respect among everyone else and no one will laugh at your jokes, they’d talk about how weird it is that u made a joke even though a popular kid could say the same thing and everyone would love them. I think it’s also a lot of talking behind your back and sending other peoples nudes around group chats and laughing at how ugly they are but still being super friendly and polite to their face. I know at least 10 people that cut themselves in my school despite our school being described as an extremely friendly place among visitors.

Of course the people who were bullies somehow find a way to blame the victims for standing out too much/being different. How typical. These are the types of people you should never trust in a life or death situation. They're the types to side with whoever has power, regardless of whether it's ethical or not. Wouldn't shake their hands if you paid me. As for how to stop it when the adults aren't doing anything, just fight. Even if you lose, just fight every time. It's not fun to bully someone who breaks your nose every so often.

Man, many people went with the flow and actively participated in bullying. Even in America, half the fcking class were bullying someone at some point in time or went with the flow. And NOBODY told the teacher. NOBODY. I wouldn't be surprised if half the kids forget the incident now that they are all grown up. For the few kids that were bullied, it hurt them their entire life. I wonder how many people on here criticizes that guy at 3:30 but were bullies as well. I was a low self esteem, immigrant, emotionally neglected, non-english speaking kid in America. I went allow with the flow for the fear of being ostracized. Bullying others and the feeling of being accepted feels great. Not having anyone to talk to or being bullied fcking sucks. I know better now, but with the circumstances I was in, I always looked the other way or participated just to not be targeted. The bullies were usually the most social and most well liked person in the class. Even the teacher liked them. The only time any bullying was stop was if the popular people stood up. A disliked person can never stand up to bullying. They would be bullied to no end.

@@egolayer13 It is hard to be the good guy. You will immediately get left out and have your name be put in the bully victim list. Not many people have strong will or a natural deterrence towards bullying. Personally, i used to bully last time as well and went with the flow around elementary school. My personality shifted 1080 degrees in the 9th grade and some of my close friends who were with me from waaay back even pointed it out. I guess life hardships can be a good teacher for the future. The guy in the video who said he uses to bully, probably didnt continue that path afterwards.

I was bullied for a long time, due to the way I look. It was never organized, but there were always people making mean jokes, and sometimes randomly 1-2 guys would just try to start a fight. I was always weak, one time a guy was bullying me, I got so pissed, that I punched him right in the face, my fist connected perfectly and yet all he could do was laugh, yes I was that weak. The teachers did nothing, one time I was running away from a guy who had hit me with a stick a few times, I accidentaly ran into my teacher, I was like 6 and I hugged her because I felt safe, she just pushed me away and I fell to the floor. Sadly it never stops, it just gets worse. Fortunately I was always intelligent, I was able to earn some money, now I can afford to keep away from bad areas, I have my own company and I have a good lawyer. But even now there is a lot of stress with this stuff, people don't get nicer when they are older, they are just more clever about their methods.

Charlie P That's good. Honestly I just can't understand bullies. Same goes for discrimination against those who are 'different' from others. People who are different make this world interesting. I personally loathe myself for being nothing special. I don't know what I will do in the future either. Everytime I see someone who is different I can't help but feel envious. But in a good way. Those who are different never fail to pique my interests. I might be a bit weird for thinking so tho.

Maybe they enroll in "advanced international-grade" expensive private schools? I did enroll in one back then (middle school) and that's the most peaceful school with almost no bullying I've ever endured, the pain in that school is only high grade standards and difficult homeworks (for a middle school pleb), but I managed to pass. Entering High School, back to normal public school, softer forms of bullying came back to me (social isolation, over-respecting likely a huge sarcasm). So far my elementary school which is a pretty bad public school was my worst.

I live in argentina... here the bullying is more fisical... the hit you, they punch you, they steal from you... and with this new fashion... "the girls are always innocent victims" highschool girls are bullies... i am 32 years old, i was bullied by my classmates gor being tall... and fat... and peacefull... for 8 years they cut my hair, they cut my books, they stole my things... they stole even my food, during 8 years i was in psicological assistance... and it was practically useless... "tell them that their actions hurt you..." "don't let them bully you" basically the fault was mine... because most of my bullies were girls... when i was 12 i tried killing myself, i almost success... but i wasn't. After one week, i went back to school, and that day o draw a line... my teachers were caught out of guard, never no one expected my actions... when my classmates started... something took over me, and slam my classmate against the black board, graping him from the neck, i punched almost all the lights out, they could break him loose from me, i went berserk... i couldn't remember anything... when i spoke with the psicological asistant, they told me "you had to ask forgiveness" automatically my answer was "he will rot in hell before that happens" the boys in my class had stoped bullying me... now to afford the real deal, was the girls... they were impunes... untochables... until may 13th... y just slapped the head bully, not a bitch slap... a back hand slap, in front of all theachers... and principal... i was the ONLY ONE being bullied by the girls, reacting like that... was my last stand... i would never run... i would never change schools, i would stand my ground until they learned the lesson... "you will never break me, and no one else will be your victims, not me, nor any other student" i was called to the principal ofice, and they didn't liked what i answer them, "this could be avoided if you just did well your job" i was terryfied... but also i was raged on... hell broke loose trough my tonge... all the names, all the teachers, all the dates... i spelled everything not just in my classroom, the entire school... i was the odd one... i was the rejected one... an in that moment, i gave a crap about what society could think about me, or about my parents... they had their fault too... The bullying stops, when the victims understand something... he has the strenght to stop them, without knifes, without guns, just their two fist... and say "it's enough... you stop today, or i stop you myself..." the injuries heal... the freedom feeling... that never goes by... I never being bullied again... when i graduated, i have helped almost 200 other students... to stop being bullied... The bullies explodes the social limitations, the limits of the oportunity... and explodes the social flauck mentality... I hope to some bullying victim read this and help it find the strenght to stop their bullies... You are not weak... and it's not your fault

Walter Depetri You know the classic stereotype of ‘boys are really aggressive and mean and girls are so nice and elegant’? Well I was bullied by both boys and girls, and while there were some boys who would physically attack me, for the most part they would just make fun of me or call me names. The girls however were very ruthless when it came to physical violence, and whenever I fought back I would always be the one in trouble. So it’s nice to hear of someone who also had to deal with that. Not to say that what happened to you was good, but just that I’m not so alone anymore.

But what about being bullied at a work place? Is it common in Japan? And would anyone even speak about it while still working at the place? I think it's easier to talk about being bullied at school when it is all over and behind you and so much harder while it is a current ordeal in your life. It's a topic very near my heart, so I'm sad to hear that so many kids in Japan get bullied(or anywhere for that matter, here in Russia it is a glossed over but still very prevalent thing in schools)

i worked in a language school (eikaiwa) in tokyo, and yeah "bullying" does happen, but it's more a "mature form" lol like you'd be left to deal with the heavy tasks and co-workers would leave you out of outside of work events. It's more of a one-on-one thing or one group vs another once you get to the working world.. and even then its not as bad as high school bullying, it's just simply incompatible, and bad tensions build theres a group on facebook for us expats and we've spoken about it quite a few times...xD

Yeah. I'm sure that happens even at work. It's not like here in the West se have not such cases though...the worst cases I can think of is if it is leaked that a person has the "burakumin Heritage". Burakumin are Japan's outcastes, a minority existing but officially being "ignored" by everyone. Most burakumin are strongly discriminated against if found out so they generally try to "pass" in the dominant group. Of course that is not the only category that experiences ijime or dôwa mondai (integration problems), furthermore, people trend to turn a blind eye on the situation as burakumin do not even exist and many other are really ignorant about the issue because of japanese cultural background through which "id you don't talk about something it will disappear on its own" and "if you're bullied or targeted it is your fault and it is you, the victim, who Needs to change". You can see this even in this very video. The "solutions" proposed involve suggestions like "the vittima needs to change his/her behaviour", "talking bullies to stop is actually useless" so the situation must be left to them to be solved and such.

Japanese views about bullying are very different from American culture (which is obvious) but because I grew up in America which is a very open place about topics like this and mental health and is very bold when it comes to activism between "right" and "wrong" it saddens me to see these viewpoints. I admire Japan greatly for being very cultural and humble and more passive than the bold and louder America in which I was raised but the same good qualities I love about Japan are also unfortunately a huge bad quality as well (the same goes for America in which it's good points can also be bad) but these things attribute to mental illness/hikikomori culture/over working and suicide rates that harm Japan so much. The pacifist nature that I admire can be seen in people standing aside and letting others get bullied so cruelly and becomes a poison in other's lives that is shoved down due to the ideology of being humble and not talking about problems like that. So many said that they weren't bullied and I honestly don't buy it in some of the cases and I think some people were just saying that to not look bad or because they thought their situation wasn't as bad as others. In a way I kind of admire that one guy who was boldly willing to admit that he bullied people because he had to in order to fit in--not an admirable action (which I feel like he understood now that he's older) but he was brave to admit it anyway while not many would have. I wish Japan would get more interested in being deeply educated on this topic because with such a stressed society about aiming to achieve excellence--Japan needs to open it's eyes and see that the good qualities that should be celebrated can also be qualities that harm everyone. In many ways America and Japan are polar opposites to a striking degree but I think it would suit them both to find a balance in things rather than being so much of one thing without room to breathe and consider something else. When I think about the kind of bullying kids face there and how Japanese culture often makes people stuff it down I feel strongly empathetic to the suffocation that would cause one's psychology. I just know that if that were me I probably wouldn't have survived it due to not being able to adapt to the ideology so many share there to teach the victims to not stand out rather than to teach bullies to not bully. I would have probably just been another number in the statistic in that environment with those ideologies surrounding me and I feel deeply for any kid who felt like they were suffocated like that.

Still, i think it's time to stop making matters more complicated than they are, it's not that hard to stand out(the equivalent of being yourself) and still stay on good terms with everybody you want to, just put some thought in your actions and the way you deliver your person's image to those around you. Edit: I forgot to mention that basically, if you strive for a more positive life, it's not that hard to obtain it. Again, we need to stop to deliberately turn simple stuff into a complicated mess, just like our society is.

1:46 guy , same. but i'm a girl. was left many times like that, got kneed and kicked and punched by guys , I also transfered in 6 grade to escape bullying in the previous school. but i didnt become popular nor did it get any better after that... I'm kind of surprised there are more people that had that experience. It doesn't seem that bad when you say it with words but when you experience it, it feels rather personal like "why would anybody do this?" I've been bullied all my life, I don't have anything wrong with me, and when I asked bullies and ex bullies why it happened, they didn't have a good answer. some said "you were weird" and other said "because you wanted friends" thinking back I didn't do anything wrong. I would be extra nice to people hoping they'd be my friends but that didn't become weird in anyway. as I grew older I developed a personality disorder because of the bullying which prevents me from making good friends and trusting people. it made me sensitive to any sign of dislike and disapproval. It probably seemed like a joke to them but it affects my life as an adult. one thing I don't understand is why me? I mean as a girl, not that it's any better if it's a guy, but girls are generally weaker. I didn't even fight back. for a long time I didn't even feel worthy of being called a "female" since it didn't seem anybody else saw me that way. but we're hanging in there, and if you're reading this comment and have experienced similar or same or worse or even not as bad, hang in there

I've been bullied a lot during my times in elementary school when I was around 11, I changed school and while at first it was okay, I felt that awful nostalgia from my previous school until 15 when I finished elementary (9 years of elementary education in my country). . When I finally got to high school things were so much better, but those bad memories and feelings just wouldn't go away so I just distanced myself slowly from others and while I wasn't bullied anymore, I just felt... alone. Elementary school and the memories that I have from those times changed me quite a lot and unfortunately I lost the ability to be comfortable around many people, especially the ones that I don't know. I just prefer being either around people who I consider close or just being left alone. I just never knew why I was bullied so much even to this day...

Reasons for becoming subjects of "bullying" are various. It is bullied for physical characteristics. It was from long ago. Recently, not only physical characteristics but also prominent features on the good side can be bullied If you have points that have advantages compared to other children it is considered to disturb the "group" in the present child world, becoming subject of "bullying" When found by other people, perpetrators say "Show me the evidence that I am a perpetrator" Educators are serious If they only teach, they will be throwing a problem

Amel Mark You are a little misunderstanding. I admit that you are working hard. There are several groups in the class and there is no problem as long as you do the same thing as everyone as a member of the group. For example, a child returning from a foreign country is superior to another child in one aspect, inferior to another child in a certain aspect, and a child who grew up in a special environment can not be accepted from any group In a living environment like a school, everything is used as a trigger, bullying spreads and it is easy to escalate.

A big issue with bullying that I think comes out in this video is that no one is willing to take responsibility for the problem. The government, teachers, parents, people who are bullied, people who instigate the bullying, people who participate in it, people witness it--their response is always, "There's nothing I could have done." Perhaps one person alone cannot fix the problem, but if no one does anything the problem will certainly never be fixed. That one guy talked about the culture of "everyone being the same" influencing bullying, but culture is really just the combination of a group of INDIVIDUALS' beliefs and actions. People need to own up to their own responsibility and do something about it. This goes for bullying in any country/culture.

Basically the same here in Switzerland. I know a lot of people who have been bullied, actually, I'm now in high school and my primary subject is maths and physics, so my class if full of nerds. Like 80% of my classmates have been bullied at some point including myself. Although I was not subject to a lot of physical bullying, I still couldn't find a way out of this role for a long time but eventually I worked myself out of it on my own. I think the sad truth is that only the person being bullied can actually change the situation by just growing more resistant to what the others do. In my case, actual physical training and a lot of goodwill towards the ones who were just bystanders eventually turned the tables. They could no longer bully me if I could beat down their leader and everyone knew that, but on top of that I could still only integrate back into the community by starting to get along those who bullied me although it sometimes hurts to just let them get away with it.

Speaking from personal experience; bullying in Japanese society doesn't disappear as people grow adult, it just takes on different shapes. Like one of the men said, instead of getting physical or stealing things, a group of people (often colleagues at work or club members / classmates for college) will instead work together to single out an individual. They'll be happy and kind up front, then actively ruin the person's reputation behind their back or "forget" to invite them to social gatherings or fill them in on necessary information they need to complete and assignment or task. Because most outsiders only see the "friendly" faces and the victims don't get concrete proof, they can't do anything about it without getting accused which is pretty scary in my opinion. I had an exchange in Japan at a pretty high ranked, but nationalistic university where I shared a dormitory with a lot of Japanese students as well as I joined one of the competitive sports clubs. I got bullied for being a westerner and "ridiculing the Japanese spirit" by doing martial arts, and a lot of my senpai quickly got tired of me because they had to break schedule to train me. I had people talking behind my back about how "stupid, slow and useless" I was, thinking I didn't understand Japanese, I was constantly reprimanded for minor mistakes even though the other (asian) exchange student did twice as bad and it got to a point where one of the girls would intentionally make the grips hurt me when the teachers weren't looking. Then when I talked to them (girls specifically) they would be all smiles and say "i am happy you are improving" or ask me a personal question that they would then use as gossip fuel. The final straw for me was when I got invited to a budo kai at a shrine and they gave me the wrong meet up place and time, having me wait for 2 hours before calling to tell me they had went ahead and ask me where I was.

If anyone is being bullied here are some tips. Be self confident, show authority and be confrontational, show the bullies that if they dont stop there will be consequences (Telling the teacher and if it keeps happening they should get suspended. As long as you show that you demand respect they will respect you sooner or later. And even better if you're nice, modest and just a good person to other people that are not bullying you. Great video as always :) this helps put thing to perspective (for me). i was bullied as a kid cause my family moved to UK (for work) and the reason behind that is due to my race and religion (not to mention i couldn't speak English) and their bullying is both verbal and physical, i was 5 to 8 years old at that time ( we stayed for 4 years). even after a few years, i have to go back to my home country (9 yrs old) i still got bullied... due to my weight (i eat when im upset ok i was just a kid) and the fact i cant speak my own language fluently (so theres like a language barrier going on) and its like verbal and shunning. the bullying ends when i turn 14 and told a discipline teacher about it. and they left me alone. (if i knew that work i would have told on them sooner) honestly if i was in japan or anywhere else i still think i would get bullied regardless. when i think about it the whole bullying thing are just kids/people with sad/bad upbringing who are ignorant. is bad enough they grew up the way they did (be it neglect/ignored or abused) but they were not thought that other people are just humans like them as well. so 2 things that make a bully, 1) the parents (or whoever had their hands raising the person) and 2) peer pressure. growing up my parents always told me to be good and dont do bad stuff, and the "dont treat people how you dont want to be treated" yada yada thing, and as a kid i was afraid of my parents more than i did towards bullies, which is why i didn't join their side (which led me to be at the receiving end even more) . but like the white shirt guy says, after a while hopefully bullying goes down once kids know "they're not the same". i just wish school would teach what parents couldn't find the time to teach their kids, and that is to treat other people how you would want to be treated. i mean this is 2018 already, teaching kids a bit about human biology (why people are short or whatever), or sexual orientation, even different type of religion ( not for any propaganda or to convert) but basic knowledge that people should probably know by now, i mean many people (not just Japanese) still believe that all muslim are terroist and for more better examples some thinks that all christians are like those westboro church people, or that atheist are asshats, etc hell some fat people are fat not just because of their eating habits but because of a hormonal imbalance called Pcos. but not many people know this. which should be talk more especially among ladies. a Women can have Pcos without them realizing it, and is not just the weight gain, other symptoms are irregular period, excessive facial hair and what not plus it can also make you depress. (google it to know more) lol whoever is able to finish my long ass comment, i'll give you a cookie.

The worse part of bullying is feeling and being alone. Parents must be aware of the problems their children are experiencing. It is very important to prepare your child to face a bully both emotionally or physically.

It is quite clear for everyone and every child that bullying is just purely terrorism to children. They face their hardest time at younger age to the extent of thinking suicidal. Everyone should check on their kids constantly whether they're being bullied on or they're bullying others!!

It seems like, from what was discussed in the interviews, a greater focus should be placed on proactively addressing bullying among kids by educating them both in and out of school to accept people that are different. What I found interesting was that the interviewees only talked about bullying during childhood and adolescence, and not bullying in the workplace. Which I imagine would be not uncommon. Perhaps a video specifically on bullying in the workplace, Yuta?

I avoided watching this for awhile because I think I knew it would upset me. I was always that kid who inevitably got in trouble for trying to stop bullies. You get a reputation even when people like you for being like that-then the bullies think you're weird but they won't come after you, so who cares lmao. It's never made sense to me why other people aren't bothered seeing someone getting picked on. But it's not just Japan, or anything-people freeze here too. I wish I knew why but I don't think I'd change.

I was bullied As kid myself. I was always big for my age, far taller and broader framed than most, by 5th grade I was 5’9” (175 cm) and weighted 200 lbs, but I was nice and therefore a soft target, then one day they pushed me too far and I fought back, they did anything I wanted after that, it was a rather relieving feeling, know I wouldn’t get books thrown at me or that I wouldn’t be tripped up stairs after that

I never understood the tall or chubby guys who got bullied, I mean even if you don't realize it, and you are not even trained, your mass gives you strength, you will usually be able to defend yourself. Violence is always bad, but sometimes you just have to defend yourself.

I think an adult or teacher can stop it. Start by isolating the bully then telling them, if they don’t stop the nonsense, they will point out their insecurities during class and they in turn will be bullied. Bullies often have deep seated insecurities themselves, pointing it out often shuts them up. My mother stopped my bullying in school. When the bullies found out who she was they immediately stopped... my mother was a softball coach and the girl bullying was in softball. It helped my mother was known as a tough coach... probably why I was quite back then.

I have 4 (nephews and nieces). Every year at the beginning of school year I remind them to let me know if anybody try to bully them at school. Same reminder, every year for the past 15 years. Remember folks, some children are born coward, we as adult must stand up for them so that they can have a happy life and bright future.

i remember being an ass in school. Got along with kids 3-4 years older and started spreading rumors about them all around my school. When they found out they tried to gang up and beat the shit out of me. Never did tho since i was always outrunning them. They gave up after a few weeks and settled for the rumors instead.

I remember running away in tears with my backpack back home after a group of girls was picking on me again. Elementary school really is hell when you are different. I was surrounded by a bunch of idiots that thought picking on me for being ugly and smarter (I'm not saying I'm smart, they literally all were just a bunch of idiots) was important for them, looking back at it, I can't relate to that child I was back then at all anymore. I still am kind of bullied because I still hear people calling me ugly every now and then and I'm being left out the most in my class but it seems that the only person to help is yourself. To be able to not let these mental things get to you is important. You can't be bullied if you aren't "letting" them. Now if you're being bullied physically, talking to adults seems to be the only solution. Wonder what their parents would say about their children punching kids in their class for no reason, what parent wouldn't be agitated and react? That said, if you don't want to be bullied, get that mindset of giving the slightest fuck about what people that intend to hurt you think of you out of your head. Life doesn't have to be bad, and if it is, it shouldn't be because some people care to hurt you.

This is world wide problem, whatever anyone say, talk about it, it will never be changed unless someone with real power makes it punishable by law. You can go to jail if you bully adult but when kids do it no one can protect them. Schools do almost nothing - to nothing about it. Is a scary future to think about if you have kids. How to protect them when you have no power when it comes to this?

I was bullied from around 6th to 10th grade in Germany, but since I was used to moving a lot I always saw myself as the most important and not the group. 1 Friend got bullied and almost never fought back, another friend joined them after being bullied and I resisted, either going to teachers or telling them how their behaviour was stupid. At the end they started ignoring me since they saw that nothing much could they gain from bullying me.
