I was expecting Rose to be higher, but it makes sense. In Melbourne, she would have either been speaking English exclusively with friends and at school, or Korean exclusively at home or in church, so she didn't have a peer group of code-switchers like you get at an international school.

This video was AMAZING- So much effort and editing went into this video and it shows. I loved learning more about how much these groups used English! Whatever you do next will definitely be a BANGER!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is really great seeing the analysis. It would be interesting if you also did other idols beyond South Korea. SB19, idols in the Philippines did go through a similar system and were under a Kpop management. The code switching in the Philippines is pretty crazy cause most of the time Tagolog and English has been mixed in our native language, hence the term Taglish was created. I would love to see your analysis on it if it is within the scope of your channel.

This was a great video! And super interesting to watch (and play a guessing game) of who code switched the most and how they applied it to their language comprehension and learning. It makes me want to incorporate more words from other languages in my every day speech, too! 😅 Also if you ever feel like doing this again, two other groups who I would consider especially good at English would be Æspa and Itzy; one being pretty close to near fluent even at debut (Æspa) and the other having progressed over the years through their language lessons at JYP and very intentional incorporation of English (Itzy). Great video as always Ben! Spectacularly edited, too!

Wow, can't believe I only just came across your video! I've never thought about how much idols code switch till now, and it's literally so interesting. I'm a native English speaker but I usually find myself wanting to switch to other languages that I know (including Telegu, Chinese and bits of Japanese) just cause it feels more natural. Korean is slowly making its way into my vocabulary now too lol.

HYBE, as a company, would make sense telling their idols to learn how to or to speak in English half or most of the time. You want to reach wider and broader audience and you want them to be more relatable if you can understand what they are saying.

In the future, the English speaker gonna rise up becoming the k-pop idol as we can see now with A2k and Dream Academy...it will be good to see code-switching from a native English speaker to Korean in a few years time

The fact that XG didn't even release their daily diary logs is something.. When they are trainees, they have to speak into the camera and tell what they did for the day. We got a glimpse of Jurin speaking full English in the log which makes me think they can but are afraid to do so in front of people.

It could also be that Jurin is still not too confident in her English; while she’s fluent, she’s probably still trying to grasp a bit more before speaking in public.

@@Kuroistired It's true.. Public speaking is so hard especially if English isn't your first language.. To be fair also, i can write understandable english like this but i can never speak it. I will get stuck without practice. lol In my head, i can speak english but the words can't come out

Yeah the code switching between Japanese, Korean and English with XG is ridiculous. Especially if Chisa and Maya are involved. They will switch between all three languages during a conversation occasionally even in a sentence.

I've just watched your 2 videos on English analysis. And i have some thoughts. The idea is amazing. I've never seen someone do it before (especially with k-pop idols). When I first clicked I thought it was gonna be about language switches in k-pop songs, but it was interesting regardless. As a non native English speaker who consumes most of entertainment content in English it was really fun to see idols switch between languages and recognize how sometimes I do the same thing myself. The editing is great. Its funny, but not distracting. How some footage of idols reflect what you are saying is hilarious (my personal favorite is when you say we can't know for sure and Rose at the background looking confused at 4:50) The amount of effort you've put in the video. Im sure it was fun to watch some k-pop shows, but I really appreciate when a k-tuber actually put some time into a video. It doesn't happen that often when a lot of k-tube content is reaction or review videos, k-pop news or some random facts about idols. So it always feels like a breath of fresh air when someone makes video like this one, that requires time, effort, sense of humor and even math💀 I'm glad you didn't use robot voice and actually voiced it yourself. I can guess robot voice is easier or less time consuming to use, but it takes away a lot of personality of a video So, you said you have some other great ideas for your future videos and if they are as great and entertaining as this one, I hope your channel become big thing among k-pop fans. Looking forward to what you're gonna put out next! Edit: and now I looked up other videos on this channel, and you are a Loona fan! Nice to see a fellow Orbit (or whatever we're called now after the girls went to different agencies)

I’m not trying to be hurtful or picky just letting you know that the line from skz code of ‘your confidence is very sexy’ was actually Chanbinnie and not hyunjin. I found having watched a ton of SKz content that Changbin follows on from others speaking English as a way to parrot yet also add his own flair, which is a great way to practice the language. Lix does this too only in Korean, he’ll repeat words or phrases that another member has said in his own way and sometime does so in English too, I think it’s become a habit for him. Again all good things, I’m not trying to criticise anyone just pointing some interesting stuff out that I’ve observed.

Oh yeah, I can see it being Changbin actually! Whenever I choose an off-screen voice to highlight, there's always a risk I'm wrong... thanks for letting me know.
