Watching several med student study videos, I've reached two conclusions. 1) No one reads the text books. 2) You're going to forget 80% of the smaller details you sucked up for the exam, but keep the big picture clear; that way, details that are encountered again and again have a place to go.

“the lecture slides spread out the knowledge”… I am finally vindicated in my disdain for slides, I could cry 😭😭

yeah slides are so worthless for reviews.

Everything said: 1. Make flashcards DURING your class and lectures. 2. Make rough notes DURING the class, anotate lecture slides, write extra info on the side of the topic in the slides. 3. WRITE WRITE WRITE. It’ll help you remember things better. 4. Highlighting isn’t doing anything. It’s just making you feel like you studied. 5. Create mindmaps after your lectures. 6. Make digital chart notes similar to Cornell note taking method (digital if you want to print out your notes). 7. Use Notion’s toggle features to imitate flashcards.

Thank you for the vid it was very helpful! i'm a 1st year Computer Science student and I've been trying things out in the 1st semester, I also strongly prefer Quizlet since it's just way prettier and also more functions and just quicker/easier to use in general. Also, I feel you for oral exams, here in Italy oral exams are so common we have them for almost every class in Uni, for some time I thought we only had them here but I'm glad to see it's not the case😅. My 2nd semester is gonna start next week so I'm checking out some new ways to take notes to prepare, I heard Obsidian is one of the best note taking systems so I'm definetely gonna try it out. Subscribed!

Oh, yeah.....I forgot another one I heard about from Ali Abdaal's channel: His friend uses Google Docs to create documents that are filled with nothing but questions. No need to write extra notes, since all the information is already everywhere. Just write down the questions, and practice from that. I LOVED that idea. I can't wait to try it!

Whenever I’m having difficulty remembering something, I talk it out. Literally speaking to myself while using hand gestures as if I’m trying to explain the concept. The moment I can’t remember a detail I look it up on google or textbook/notes. Then I’ll say this new information out loud while ensuring I understand how it’s related to what I was saying. Speaking, helps me notice which pieces of information where most important (like if I had a vocal infliction when saying a specific word). After talking, I draw concepts, write, or get a picture off google to label. I hope that makes sense. My last piece of advice is to switch up the way you review the same concepts. For instance, If you’re only re-reading about DNA replication in your notes, you probably won’t remember much. Watch some animations, pausing in between to make note of the steps. Create flash cards with said steps. Could you draw these steps on your own? What important questions do you think could be asked about the process? Wishing u best of luck❤❤

Idk in which field you are but here is what i do as an Engineering student, ( I not only have bad memory but I’m also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which also affects my memory) I basically don’t memorize everything !! I understand and relate the concepts , for formulas i memorize two or three main formulas and for the rest i just derive them from the main ( it takes time to derive but now that im used to it I solve faster than the people who memorize) , for the concepts I read the slides and try to understand and then write down what I understood, if I forgot something I right the exact info I forgot 20+ times depends on how many times I forgot, i try to solve many questions and once i get a wrong answer i skim the info and write it 10 times. It works for me and I score pretty well

I’m in DPT school. Flashcards help me a lot, but I can’t type fast enough to make them during lecture time. Also don’t have time to make hundreds of it for each class. My current best method is using white board and markers to recall and write down what I’ve studied. What do you think about this method?

First year Pre clinical Student here (MB.CHB) Not (MD) I struggle with deciding between the lecture material and my textbooks A lot of medical KZbinrs lean heavily into just learning the material (i.e. Slides & Powerpoints) But does that mean studying texts are a waste of time? Cause they're so large and they take so much time to work through.
