How do Mutual Funds work?

In the previous video, we learned how simple the personal finance math is. Now, in your personal finance journey, once you've understood the basic concepts like compounding and time value of money, you'll look for ways to invest your savings.
There are various regulatorily approved structures for managing money like:
1. Portfolio management services (PMS)
2. Alternative investment funds (AIF)
3. Mutual funds (MF)
The first two are for high net worth individuals (HNIs) and the minimum investment in a PMS scheme is Rs 50 lakhs while it's Rs 1 crore in an AIF. For the rest of us, mutual funds are one of the best ways to save for all our goals. While the act of choosing a scheme is easy to understand, it's worthwhile to understand the structure of an asset management company (AMC) which launches a mutual fund scheme. In this video, Karthik explain how an AMC is structured and the various entities it interacts with.

Hello Sir, I'm in class 11th right now and Varsity has been really helpful . I had some doubts , What is a Hedge fund and what does a Hedge Fund Manager do? And right now as the market for Adanis is going down, what should the retail investors do? Should they pull out with loss or just remain unbothered by the ups and downs, sit patiently and watch. In my opinion, they should pe patient with their money right now, as told by Morgan Housel in Psycology of Money, ( Chapter : Confounding Compounding ) . I wanted your opinion about it.

Hedge funds are basically funds designed to reduce (hedge) risk of the markets, they invest in Alternatives and derivatives like options, futures, swaps and other AIFs and funds Hedge fund belongs to the buy side where they invest in various asset classes to reduce the risk, and usually wealthy investors put money in HFs to adjust their risks

As for the stock, holding a single stock irrespective of how strong its fundamentals are is not a good idea Compounding does its magic best when you “dont keep all your eggs in one basket” Invest in diversified stocks so that profit in one nets off the loss in another Glad to see a young fella show interest in investing, keep it up !
